More Friday Stuff

Well, I suppose that this will give Steve Bannon the opportunity for more quality time with his meth lab (I also think a notable observation is here)…

…oh, and did you hear about Generalissimo Trump cutting funding for an anti-Nazi program that was funded by President Obama here (so of course it must be destroyed as far as the Orange Maniac is concerned)…

..and yeah, it looks like our Problem Child in Chief is actually thinking about pardoning truly awful immigrant-bashing AZ sheriff Joe Arpaio (the Phoenix brown shirt gathering rally is supposed to be Monday...this commentary doesn't include the latest "double-down" on Trump's original awful words; sorry, but there's only so much I can do about the timing)…

…and I’m behind on my summer and 1967 tunes, but I don’t know how THIS isn’t appropriate for the occasion of Bannon's departure.

Friday Stuff

We stand with the brave people in Spain recovering from the Barcelona attack staged by terrorist cowards (updates are here...and apparently there is now some kind of craziness going on now in Finland, believe it or not - hopes and prayers for the best there too)…

And now, let’s return to the US of A.

I’ll tell you what – to cap off this week, you might say, I’m going to present what Generalissimo Trump said about Charlottesville, with its utterly unedited and un-redacted egomania and horror.

“Pivot”? “The day he became presidential”? What, are you corporate media fools mainlining anti-freeze or something?

It’s all here, people. The rude petulance…”excuse me, excuse me”…the charges of “fake news” (for anyone who still thinks the Gropenfuhrer said that as just a dog whistle to his base, the answer to the questions is YES, HE REALLY BELIEVES THAT!), the assumption that he and he alone knows what “many sides” were protesting about…that he and he alone knows the history…it’s all here.

Oh, and by the way, it’s not like we weren’t warned about this, because THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT HE WAS DURING THE CAMPAIGN! And if our utterly bought-and-paid-for corporate media had been DOING THEIR DAMN JOBS INSTEAD OF CARING ONLY ABOUT RATINGS AND ZOMG HILLZ EMAILS! BENGHAZI!!!, they would have communicated to everyone that TRUMP HAS ONLY EVER BEEN HELD TO ACCOUNT IN A COURT OF LAW, AND WHAT YOU SEE IS WHAT HE TRULY IS.

What an utter abomination. What a disgrace...

…and in response, Farron Cousins of Ring of Fire points out that Shep Smith of Fix Noise recently couldn’t find a single Repug to come on his program and defend our liar in chief…

…and yeah, I think it’s time to turn to K.O. once more on this stuff (and kudos to the Detroit Red Wings and the Tiki Torch company of course)…

…and Lawrence O’Donnell tells us about President Impulse Control Issue Egomaniac’s performance on the Barcelona attack, including his particularly ridiculous lie about Gen. Pershing and the blood-soaked bullets…

…and as Rachel Maddow tells us, there is no equivocation whatsoever when it comes to tolerance and respect among its members as articulated by the U.S. military, separating themselves in truly rare fashion from the Gropenfuhrer…

…and in case our petulant idiot president decides once more that trying to stage a lovely little war could be a diversion to take attention away from this stuff, some adult in his administration ought to watch and briefly summarize this video for him from 8/17/07, quoting Deadeye Dick Cheney warning against invading Iraq…the problem is that Cheney said this in the 90s of course but went ahead and did it anyway during the next decade – and yeah, this is another installment of “This Day In Doomsy History” (more or less)…

…and you can count the family of Johnny Cash among the people criticizing the appropriation of their images or what you would call intellectual property I guess by the Charlottesville lunatics and other radical right fringes (here) – makes me recall this tune (video is great despite the presence of Kid Rock).

Thursday Stuff (update)

I give you this NYT video about Charlottesville (and sorry, President Lincoln’s memory, but any time these clowns want to secede, I’ll help them – that means no more Social Security, disability payments unless they qualify for Medicaid – which probably would be cut anyway – they have to raise and pay for their own army, their own clean air and water, take care of their own air space for flying planes, infrastructure, etc., etc., etc.)…

…and any non-violent push-back, in whatever form, can only be positive at this point as far as I’m concerned…

…including this (and I’m not going to be snotty and say it’s a “Johnny Reb” issue, because, though I don’t have any statistics on this, I’m sure there are plenty of them “above the Mason-Dixon line” too)…

...and Rachel Maddow tells us that the Russian political disinformation campaign against Democrats has never really ended, by the way…

…and Lawrence O’Donnell reminds us that, prior to #45, presidents who managed to ascend to the White House with a minority of votes tried to build coalitions while in office, but of course, forget about any of that with our Impulse Control Issue Nazi Sympathizer In Chief…

…and I think Green Day pretty much calls all of this here.

Update: And by the way, I’m seeing some usage out there of the term “Alt-left.” To me, it’s utterly vile and repugnant for ANYONE who shares ANY kind of common political cause with Democrats/liberals/progressives/whatever to throw around language that connotes any feigned linkage whatsoever with the white nationalist crazies of this country (more here) – I detest the term “Alt-right” because I think it tries to sanitize those monsters – I have to admit that I’m a bit flabbergasted that anyone on our side would see a benefit of any kind to a term like that.

Do I think people like David Sirota need to get a grip once in a while? Yeah, but I’m not trying to invalidate his points (nor that of people like Kyle Kulinski, who, potty mouth and all, backs up his arguments).

Yeah, I can see the shouting matches right now:

“OH YEAH, YOU ALT-LEFT BERNIE LOVER?”

“OH YEAH, YOU CORPORATE DEMOCRAT?”

Oh for sure, I can SO DEFINITELY see us building an enduring, governing majority for all time if we keep having the equivalent of a political “food fight” like this. I can DEFINITELY see the voters of this country trusting the Democratic Party while we continue to rip ourselves apart over this childish spat!

Do the DNC and the DCCC perpetually piss me off with their RIDICULOUS fundraising Emails, even those from Nancy Pelosi with the subject line of “Not A Request For Money,” then you open it, take a brief survey, answer when they ask what you’ll do in the next election, and then – SURPRISE! – they DO IN FACT ASK FOR MONEY? Is the Pope from Argentina?

That being said, can’t we for God’s sake just sit down in a room and try to hash this all out like grownups? And yes, I side more against the corporate Dems to be sure, but that doesn’t mean that either side has a monopoly on virtue.

As I and others who are much smarter than I am on this stuff have pointed out, the Republican Party and movement conservatism was flat on his metaphorical back in 1964 after Lyndon Johnson was re-elected. For a lot of reasons and through different underhanded means IMHO (mainly the Repugs becoming experts in exploiting our divisions – thanks, Tricky Dick Nixon!), the other side took 16 years to re-emerge, but they did so in 1980 and ushered in the utterly ruinous conservative ascendancy which continues its sordid abominations to our utter detriment to this day, with no foreseeable end in sight.

In fewer words – if they can pull this off, then we can too.

I just don’t want to see us piss away the opportunity of a lifetime, that’s all.

Wednesday Stuff

(To be fair to Campbell Soup CEO Denise Morrison, I should note that our Impulse Control Issue Nazi Sympathizer In Chief "picked up his marbles and went home" concerning his supposed manufacturing council partly because Morrison did the right thing and walked, as noted here, so kudos to her - and in a related vein, I give you this.)

And with that in mind, Joy Reid talks with Jon Meacham and Charlie Pierce about the latest missteps from the Gropenfuhrer on Charlottesville; yep, #45 is trying to suck up to the guys with the tiki torches again (and I think Pierce is particularly spot-on at the very end, even though Barbara Fields annoyed the hell out of me during The Civil War series…but maybe it’s just me)…

…and Sam Seder tells us about Charlottesville rally organizer Jason Kessler running away when confronted (and yeah, I get it that Kessler had every right to his utterly repugnant free speech as those protesting had, but seriously, what does he expect when he routinely spouts hateful garbage like this every chance he gets?)…

(Oh, and by the way, in my neck of the woods, there’s now an outcry about tearing down a statue of Frank Rizzo - here. My response, for whatever it’s worth, is this: yes, the “nightstick in the cummerbund” is definitely an image from my youth, but where do you draw the line with this stuff? Did Frank Rizzo have any role in an armed insurrection against this country?)

Update 8/18/17: Never an excuse for this; if you want to try to take down the statue, do it the right way (petition, signatures, online campaign, etc.)...

…and for anyone out there who still needs to be reminded about how horrible the Gropenfuhrer’s latest pratfall really was (maybe one or two people I guess), I give you this…

…also, Thom Hartmann talks with Lee Fang of The Intercept about all of the “glibertarians” out there trying to impose their crass, disgusting “world order” elsewhere in this hemisphere and on other continents; kudos to Fang for reporting on something that, as nearly as I can determine, is totally ignored by the news networks with initials for names…

…and Elvis “left the building” for real 40 years ago today – I thought this was a good tune for the occasion (still recall Geraldo Rivera, believe it or not, reporting on all of the prescribed drugs Presley took – a shocker for that time, though I suppose the reaction was more of a shrug when something similar was learned later about Michael Jackson)…

…however, it’s really best I think to hear from the artist himself (the one-time Sam Phillips protégé, I mean - with all of the craziness going on with Generalissimo Trump, I couldn't help but think of this tune).

Tuesday, August 15, 2017

Tuesday Stuff

Lawrence O’Donnell put the recent events in Charlottesville into the context they deserve here (and apparently, Generalissimo Trump was all "hugs and kisses" with his “alt-right” base again today – here)…

…and I’m glad K.O. pretty much let his disgust be apparent to everyone…

…and Seth Meyers adds some effective commentary also IMHO, especially about the whole “tiki torch” thing…

…and what a shame that HRC didn’t warn us about all of this last year while WAAAYYYY too many on the left were screaming about “corporate Democrats” (not saying that’s OK, but just asking for a little perspective, in particular from people like David Sirota* who I basically respect but keeps railing about that and then bitches when people on Twitter get in his face about it…oh, and by the way, she DID warn us)…

*-If you want to bitch on Twitter about Merck CEO Ken Frazier and high drug prices, please don’t do it when Frazier actually does something good like leaving Trump’s bogus council of whatev

…and I would say that this is typical for this regime of idiots, Nazis and other thugs (more here)…

…and I know I’m way overdue for a new tune, and I think this is a pretty good one.

Monday, August 14, 2017

Monday Stuff

So what does Generalissimo Trump do in response to his unbelievable (but totally typical) gaffe over Charlottesville? Need you ask (and yeah, sure as hell took him long enough here)? Yep, this idiot still thinks he’s campaigning...and about that one million jobs claim, I give you this – oh, and, by the way

...and sorry, I don't think the Gropenfuhrer gets a "do over" for this...

…and yeah, we can thank Tucker for a lot of this garbage too (I’d like to see his eyebrows stick in that position for good one of these days – NSFW...and good on Carlos Maza for this, but THAT ENTIRE WRETCHED NETWORK is guilty of "cherry picking")…

…and I thought this was an interesting little curio from the War Department circa 1943 brought to us courtesy of Al Jazeera, believe it or not…

…and I thought this was a hoot – it looks like “Bri-Fi,” our PA-08 U.S. House rep, is going to have an “invitation only” town hall, as noted here – made me recall this clip from last year…

...and congratulations to Dionne Warwick for this.

Saturday, August 12, 2017

Saturday Stuff

And I remember that Charlottesville was such a nice town – I guess the NASCAR channel was showing reruns last night (good tweets in response by Charlie Pierce here, here and here...more here)…

Update 1: For anyone who has any doubt as to what these cretins are all about, I give you the following pic from here...

Update 2: F*cking murdering cowards...

Update 3: In response to this, I have only the following to add...

Update 1 8/13/17: More blood on the hands of these white nationalist crazies – sympathies and condolences to the families and friends of the two state troopers (here)…

Update 2 8/13/17: Never thought I'd link to the New York Post, but...

…and Thom Hartmann gives us some background on stupid wars waged by conservatives (“all happened within one Scaramucci” = 10 days…funny; interesting talk on the 25th amendment too)…

...and maybe the heck with "B. Barry Bamz" running for his old job again, which he can do - how does "M.O. in 2020" sound (here)?...

...and John Oliver tells us the latest on the border patrol (yeah, I think we need a bit of a cleanup in that area, along with some actually realistic advertising as to what the job truly entails – NSFW)…

...and it looks like the Gropenfuhrer is ready for "Just Say No, The Sequel" (however, D.A.R.E. can be successful, but not by itself of course)...

...and I hope you're in the mood for a Glen Campbell encore, because here it is - from back in the day.

Friday, August 11, 2017

Friday Stuff

Robert Reich tells us just how close the parallels are between Generalissimo Trump and Tricky Dick (and I thought this was a joke from The Onion, but with the Big Orange Cheetoh, I guess I should know better)…

…and Rachel Maddow tells us that it looks like Robert Mueller has something on Paul Manafort, but we’ll see (“tough stuff”? Number 45 ain’t seen nuthin’ yet, as they say – when it’s all over, Preznit Tiny-Handed Impulse Control Issue Egomaniac won’t have a pot to piss in)…

…and did you ever wonder what would have happened if Dear Leader’s predecessor had acted like the current occupant of An Oval Office? Well, I think Bill Maher gives us some idea here (NSFW)…

…and whatever it took, it’s still good that Jeffrey Lord is out at CNN (NSFW also…I think all the panelists make good points including Cenk, in particular saying that this was weak sauce by comparison for getting rid of Lord, who had no business even being on the air to begin with…this reminds me a bit of the dustup over Bill Maher saying the “N” word recently, but maybe it’s just me – I think the backgrounds for the segment got mixed up a bit)...

…and I know this is some ultra-cheeky commentary from Lee Camp at Redacted about a “Foxconn” plant coming to Wisconsin, proving, as he says, that wages of U.S. workers on the whole are finally so low that companies can offshore jobs from their locations to here and still remain profitable in a thoroughly disgusting manner (NSFW yet again)…

…and I think this is an appropriate tune for us to bid adieu to Glen Campbell – still had his vocal “chops” late in his career in comparison with other artists.

Thursday, August 10, 2017

Thursday Stuff

Rachel Maddow tells us some US personnel in Havana have been affected by something, and we asked two Cuban officials in this country to go in response; glad we cleared that up – huh? And actually, we DO know some people in Cuba, and I won’t say anything else about that…

…and kudos to Shep Smith once again for setting the record straight between Number 44 and more typical lies from Generalissimo Trump on the question of our nuclear arsenal (here); Chrome will probably muff this up, but it should be OK on other environments including an Android cell phone...

…and Seth Meyers comments on the Gropenfuhrer and North Korea (awesome job on the limerick, by the way)...

…and potty mouth Kyle tells us about those Fix Noise clowns on North Korea; yep, lather, rinse, repeat with this bunch – NSFW (yeah, let all those hairdos pick up guns and fight, including this Kennedy whatever person)…

…and John Oliver gives that worm Stephen Miller the treatment he deserves (very NSFW)…

…and here’s another memorable Glen Campbell tune – I never thought that this tune was chauvinist in any way (and yeah, I know the lip sync is off a bit).

Wednesday, August 09, 2017

Wednesday Stuff

Oh - OF COURSE Caribou Barbie is outraged (here)! I mean...she has to say or do SOMETHING to try and remain relevant in her imagination somehow, right?

And with the pic in mind somewhat, Cenk and Ana tell us that the Impulse Control Issue Child In Chief Who Wants To Nuke North Korea (and as I said yesterday, can’t we put him in a goddamn straightjacket before he tries to do that?) hasn’t said a word about the recent terrorist attack on a mosque in Minnesota (update is here – and who exactly is this sanctimonious assh*le Sebastian Gorka anyway? Lemme guess – another white nationalist? So much winning!!!)…

Update: Kudos to Chelsea Clinton for this (I quite agree).

…and Farron Cousins lets Dem Sen. Joe Manchin have it over a truly ridiculous response by Manchin when asked about his votes (a fair point, but I have to say that I’m getting a little fed up with the Dem purity tests going on right now…yes, Manchin needs to move to the left along with more than a few others, I get it, but if we can’t get our shit together and unite against Generalissimo Trump, we’ll never be able to do it against anybody...borderline NSFW)…

…I’ll tell you what – instead of beating each other up, let’s watch this video by Robert Reich and find out ways to take it out instead on Repugs who are in their districts and facing their constituents over the August recess instead, OK? And not surprising to find out that Ron Wyden is absolutely solid on this subject, by the way...

Update 8/10/17: All of that being said about trying to unite as Dems, I believe that every word of this article should be memorized by those Dem-party Beltway jokers who do nothing but lose elections (somewhat shocking, but it bears out what many others have said, including your humble narrator...h/t Eschaton).

…and Joy Reid tells us that our former ol’ buddy Vlad Putin wants to utterly screw us over using Bitcoin, in an attempt to get around the recent sanctions passed by Congress…

…and Stephen Colbert has some fun with Fix Noise clown Eric Bolling and his recent photographic misadventures, shall we say (the jokes truly write themselves...a shaved squirrel?)…

…and Glen Campbell was truly a multi-talented entertainer – host of a popular variety TV show (you can Google the term) from way back, crossover pop/country star, movie actor, and also highly accomplished SoCal “sessions” guitarist with The Wrecking Crew…if I were to feature all of his great tunes (with the expert help of songwriter Jimmy Webb more than a few times), I would probably need a month, but as it is, I’ll devote the rest of this week to three in particular, including this one – RIP.

Tuesday, August 08, 2017

Tuesday Stuff

Umm, does anyone else besides me think that it’s waaaaay past time to impeach this lunatic (here)?

And spare me that this somehow makes Trump “presidential” like Harry Truman – yes, Truman did say something similar on August 6, 1945, but we were trying to finish that little squabble called…oh, it was just on the tip of my tongue; I know it’s in the history books…oh yeah, WORLD WAR FREAKING TWO!...

…and I’m sure the Gropenfuhrer has no objection to nuking a few sage grouse too (I wanted to gag reading that statement from Zinke about supposedly protecting them while making sure their habitat is basically destroyed so we can drill for oil)…

…and K.O. gives us the latest here – gosh, could it be that Jeanine Pirro of Fix Noise is somehow a member of the “Resistance” after all? Sorry if that gives away the end…

...and I know Huckleberry Graham has a spotty record at best when it comes to standing up to President Fergus Laing, but credit where it's due here...

…and Seth Meyers tells us about Generalissimo Trump’s 17-day vacation (leave him to wander around in Bedminster, NJ without his cell phone, OK? And maybe give him a metal detector to pass the time)…

…and I know I’m late with this idiocy from Alan Dershowitz, but kudos to Paul Butler and Richard Painter in particular for bringing down the proverbial hammer…

...and I guess you could say that Mickey Mouse has bigger "ears" than we thought (or maybe not)...

...and here's another summer tune (kind of an antique, but definitely still works IMHO).

Monday, August 07, 2017

Monday Stuff

I couldn’t quite get to this item last week, but let’s definitely support Kentucky Dem Amy McGrath in her quest for the U.S. Congress (more here, and more like this)…

…and nothing to see here, just another critic of our former buddy Vlad Putin murdered – move along

…and yeah, how’s that wall working out for you, Trump voters (here)? Yeah, isn’t “eminent domain” just “tha’ bomb?” But ZOMG, HILLZ BENGHAZI EMAILS!!!!! And kind of a clumsy cut at the end, but you get the picture...

…and timed for the recent 52nd anniversary of the since-gutted Voting Rights Acts, Robert Reich tells us what we can do about it (here)…

…and RIP Dutch

…and I tried to come up with the best tune I could think of as a tribute, and I settled on this one (God, those ‘70s flared pants are hideous!).

Friday, August 04, 2017

Friday Stuff

K.O. continues to chronicle the utter disintegration of Generalissimo Trump (more on the sanctions vote is here – not sure why Sen. Bernie Sanders voted No, unless it was because sanctions against Iran were included, which I think are a mistake given that no one has produced evidence that they’ve violated the terms of the treaty signed under former Secretary of State John Kerry...anybody remember that one?)…

…and I realize the news wouldn’t be another Trump lie; the “news” would be that he actually told the truth, as Kyle explains, discussing yet another insane interview with Number 45, this time conducted by the Wall Street Journal (NSFW)…

…and gee, not smirking now, are you, “Pharma Bro” (here – and hey, chill on the Vice reporter, OK? Well, maybe he is still smirking a bit - I'm sure he'll eventually "get the memo")...

…and Chris Hayes tells us that the Secret Service has been kicked out of Trump Tower in NYC because the rent is apparently too damn high (definitely emblematic of this regime of idiots and crooks)…

…also, Joy Ann Reid interviews Del Quinton Wilber, the reporter for the aforementioned WSJ who broke the story that Special Counsel Robert Mueller has impaneled a grand jury in Washington, D.C. (as Wilber says, waay too early to prognosticate here, but this definitely isn’t good for the Gropenfuhrer)…

…and Ali Velshi talks to that disgusting Teahadist Jim Jordan about health care in this country vs. Canada (oh, and as long as I’m including a video from Bernie Sanders, can we PLEEEAAASSSE cease and desist with the circular firing squad about how he is supposedly destroying the Democratic Party? And on the other side of this argument, can we PLEEEAAASSSE cease and desist with the purity tests about how, say, Sen. Kamala Harris is a “CORPORATE DEM WHO MUST BE SHUNNED”?

(I’m not even going to waste my time trying to address people like Jimmy Dore on this, since screaming about “Corporate Dems” is basically their business model.)

With this is mind, Charlie Pierce wrote a great column today about how, if we keep this up, we’re likely to blow the greatest opportunity we’ve ever had for Democrats to win and, thus, govern the way both parties in this country are supposed to (Update 8/7/17 - Uh, yep)…

…and speaking of Bernie, he reminds us here about Nissan workers trying to organize in MI – all the best…

Update 8/5/17: I once had a Nissan, and it was a good car, but I'll never buy another one (here - from what I read, I blame management coercion).

…and I think this is a nice tune and video for a Friday, so here it is (barring news stories, I probably will be going a little overboard with summer songs for a while after this).

Thursday, August 03, 2017

Thursday Stuff

I think this brings me up to date with all of Keith Olbermann’s “Resistance” commentaries; at this point, anyone not doing something to try and get Number 45 removed from office, to say nothing of being tried for treason, is doing a grave disservice to this country…

…and in response to the surreal idiocy yesterday of Stephen Miller trying to smack down Jim Acosta of CNN for more Trumpian garbage about trying to exclude non-English-speaking people from this country (more here), I thought Maria Hinojosa made some good points with Chris Hayes (and, like Ana Navarro, I’m absolutely shocked to see that Jennifer Rubin has emerged as a voice of reason – wonders truly never cease)…

…and Joy-Ann Reid talks with Dem Sen. Cory Booker about the latter’s attempt to “lighten up,” as it were, on pot, and making a lot of good arguments in the process (oh, but Booker is a “corporate Dem,” so we’re not supposed to take him seriously – huh?)…

…and leave to our friends up north to lead the way on single payer (Richard Burr is such a tool)…

…and hmmm, Lou Barletta…gee, is he running against Bob Casey for the U.S. Senate? Sounds like another reason to do the right thing here (NSFW – and why am I not surprised to see that Barletta and Kris Kobach are two peas in a truly awful pod? And I LOVE the musical)…

…and every once in a while, I feel like I need a bit of a “palate cleanser” of a tune, and I think this works.

Wednesday, August 02, 2017

Wednesday Stuff

Seth Meyers tells us about how Generalissimo Trump has utterly played those evangelical saps yet again (I’d never heard of Paula White until this clip, and I’m sure some of my brain cells died as I watched it)…

…and this is a little “after the news curve” I guess, but Lawrence O’Donnell reminds us who, above all else, should get the credit for defeating “Trump-Scam-Care” (we ALWAYS need to point this out as far as I’m concerned to keep the spirit of activism alive, to say nothing of expressing gratitude to those protesters for their sacrifice…and besides)…

…and Chris Hayes discusses the lawsuit over the Seth Rich garbage and Trump’s alleged involvement – unbelievable that a president Is involved in this cruel idiocy, even the Gropenfuhrer (Gabe Sherman, by the way, did great reporting over the Roger Ailes garbage at Fix Noise…Olivia Nuzzi had some telling comments on that scumbag Ed Butowsky also…more here)…

…and it looks like Robert Reich is all over the ways that Number 45 can be removed from office…

…and I thought this was a great defense of Islam in response to all of the ISIS garbage…

…and I’m falling behind on my summer tunes again, so here’s another one.

Tuesday, August 01, 2017

Tuesday Stuff

Anybody have any idea whatsoever why the Gropenfuhrer would want to bring back the “pee pee tape”? (though I realize that question assumes a level of sanity that Number 45 had not demonstrated in any way…I didn’t know “paddy wagon” was an ethnic slur – hmmm; and I like that cheeky signoff too)…

…and oh, nothing to see here – just the largest expulsion of American embassy personnel in the history of modern diplomacy by our former buddy Vlad Putin; Joy-Ann Reid talks with former U.S. ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul about it (with another mention of The Magnitsky Act)…

…and going back in time a bit, Rachel Maddow reminds us about Former Commander Codpiece and the Texas Air National Guard stuff (timed for this item – a REALLY clumsy cut at the end of the clip that no doubt gives the background for the movie “Truth,” with Robert Redford and Cate Blanchett…could never bring myself to watch the flick because I didn’t want to relive any of that stuff, to be honest, not because I didn’t think it was true)…

…and wingnut Tomi Lahren comes out against health care even though she’s covered by her parents – genius!... (from The Majority Report with Michael Brooks and “failed comedian” Sam Seder; yeah, Jimmy Dore really is that big of a troll as far as I’m concerned – NSFW)…

…and former Baltimore police commander Michael Wood, Jr. weighs in on Trump’s recent idiocy in front of the cops, along with a lot of other important stuff about policing; “he (Trump) is a product of us” – well said, unfortunately (NSFW a bit also)…

…and I try to remain on the lookout for good, new tunes, and I think this qualifies.

Monday, July 31, 2017

Monday Stuff

I know I’m going out of order with K.O.’s great GQ commentaries again given today’s Scaramucci development (geez oh man, first his pregnant wife walks out because he took a job with the Gropenfuhrer, and then he loses that job – what a mook…more here...my sympathies to Mario Cantone - well, maybe SNL will find a way to work him in anyway, maybe hiding in the bushes?)…

…and it looks like there’s some big-time push-back on Generalissimo Trump’s “trans” military order, as noted here (love to see Kristen Beck open up a can of whoop-ass on Number 45)…

…and Sam Seder talks with Cliff Schecter about how Dem U.S. Senator Mazie Hirono of Hawaii should have received McCain's "standing O" during the recent health care vote - interesting theory by Sam Seder on Trump's national security weakness keeping Heitkamp and especially Manchin in line - have to ponder that...

…and Rachel Maddow on the similarity between the tactics of Governor Bully (who bravely protected his nachos here – heh) and those of our impulse control issue child in chief, particularly on Trump-Scam-Care (with Bill Stepien being the likely link..and sorry, but I don’t believe Ryan Zinke here)…

…and RIP Jeanne Moreau (Sam Shepard also)…

…and time for another tune from 1967; this song reached #1 50 years ago on July 29th…I’m sure you’ve heard of it :-).

Saturday, July 29, 2017

Saturday Stuff

I know I was a bit remiss yesterday in not giving credit where it was due in shutting down “Trump-Scam-Care” in the Senate (noted here), so please allow me to do so now; yes, let’s thank Collins and Murkowski, but let’s also thank the Senate Dems who stood tall unanimously – granted, they should have done that, but let’s give them credit for doing the right thing (including PA’s Bob Casey, who could use some help since he’s up for re-election next year…to reward good behavior, click here…hard to imagine the parallel universe of absurdity that Sen. Mr. Elaine Chao lives in – totally devoid of any truth whatsoever)…

…and once more, K.O. is “on the beat” concerning the “Gropenfuhrer” (amazing how many people are apparently realizing Number 45 is crackers only now)…

…and I hope the recent health care outcome means you won’t need a prescription for this (heh – NSFW)…

…and while we were on vacation, another rock milestone passed, and that was the 40th anniversary of “My Aim Is True,” the debut from Elvis Costello of course, which brought us this great tune among many others.

Friday, July 28, 2017

Friday Stuff

I don’t know how many more times this needs to be pointed out, for God sake, but fortunately, K.O. does so again here (about Generalissimo Trump of course)…

...and it looks like Fergus Laing's latest nominee for the Justice Department's criminal division previously represented Russia's Alfa Bank, which might be an issue given that we're trying to extradite a big-deal Russian mobster (not illegal as far as we know, but if it walks like a duckski, talks like a duckski and quacks like a duckski)...

…and I totally agree with the assessment of Chris Hayes here – I believe it was Ice Cube who said recently on “Real Time” that the good cops need to “out” the bad ones, and he’s right (though he didn’t put it in those words of course…our president is insane, and anyone who doesn’t do anything in response, to say nothing of encouraging him, is aiding and abetting - more here)…

…and Samantha Bee tells us the “tale of the taint,” as it were (NSFW)…

…and I give you another installment of “This Day In Doomsy History” from 7/28/07; earlier this week, I posted a “Now This” clip explaining why we shouldn’t allow a second of hagiography concerning Former Commander Codpiece, and I definitely think this gives us more of a reminder on that score (NSFW also)…

…and I have to admit that I can do without his covers of the standards (though they’re decent enough I guess), but kudos to Rod Stewart for this.

Thursday Stuff

(And by the way, it’s “on” for trying to cram Trump-care down our throats…to do something about it, click here.)

I thought Rachel Maddow made a good point last night about how the latest garbage from Number 45 regarding our courageous “trans” military personnel, and this typically awful speech about immigrants highlighted below, is an effort to keep his 30-percent-or-so “base” in line while he lets Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III twist in the wind, as it were (of course, this would be the handiwork of “President” Bannon, since our Impulse Control Issue Child-In-Chief isn’t smart enough to come up with a tactic like that himself...and God, those poor, pathetic saps applauding that lunatic)…

…and I wonder how many of those supposedly disgusting immigrants actually made products for Generalissimo Trump (here – a little late on this I know)?...

this clip is pretty current, though, and that’s a comparison of what Fergus Laing’s visits at Mar-a-Lago cost versus what our LGBTQ military personnel would need – we know Trump poses no capacity for shame whatsoever; otherwise, it would be on display for this…

...and speaking of TRMS, I think our "prez" is nuttier now than he was during the campaign; Maddow pretty much agreed with presidential historian Michael Beschloss on this last week...and yeah, I would say that's the stuff of nightmares...

...and I continue to catch up with K.O.'s great commentaries with this one...

…and I’m behind on my summer tunes also – even though we’ve only been back for about a week, I REALLY feel like I need to hear this with all that is going on.

Wednesday Stuff

It looks like President Tiny-Handed Impulse Control Issue Egomaniac is trying more diversion and nonsense (probably to distract from Russia and trying to ruin health care) with this new idiocy about trying to bar trans people from serving in the military – we don’t know how this will play out, and he sure as hell doesn’t either, given that Number 45 has the attention span of a flea on meth in the first place (I have a feeling Rick Wilson said something like that about him – can’t take credit for it in good conscience)…

…and yeah, as always, it’s all about Jobs! Jobs! Jobs! from Not Your Father’s Republican Party, especially in the “land of the yellow rose” (I say that if lawmakers want to mandate that women report issues regarding their personal health, then male politicians who favor these awful bills should be forced to do the same thing, such as how many times they take Viagra or Cialis)…

..and speaking of health care, I thought Cenk and Ana gave “Senator Honor and Virtue” the treatment he deserved given that awful vote yesterday (and with all due respect to Bob Cesca, I really don’t care about thisthis is more like it)…

Update 7/28/17: OK, give McCain credit for doing the right thing on Thursday night, but let's not forget that, as Laura Clawson rightly points out here, Collins, Murkowski and especially Mazie Hirono deserve credit too.

…and sticking with health care, potty mouth Kyle K. brings us a GREAT example here of how Dems are supposed to respond on the issue of single payer, courtesy of Ro Khanna (NSFW)…

…and I know I really didn’t have anything to say previously about Anthony Scaramucci, the Gropenfuhrer’s new mouthpiece, but I thought Seth Meyers summed things up pretty well here (after watching this clip, maybe his legal name should be Donald J. “I Know You Are, But What Am I?” Trump)…

…and aside from the tune which I liked of course, I don’t know which part of the video was my favorite; the mom (?) doing the photo-bomb or the appearance by the dog.

Tuesday Stuff

Yeah, I think The Rude Pundit pretty much summed everything up with this observation (based on this of course...and John Cole nails it as well here).

…and I would say that we’ve got a little “vox populi” going on here…

…and yeah, the Repugs are all disgusting liars, but we knew that anyway…

…and all the best to 10-year-old Liam Barry, and especially to his mom…

…and switching things up a bit, David Pakman reminds us that, even though the Dems need to do a better job of creating space between them and the Repugs, there is one issue for sure where the Dems stand out like the proverbial sore thumb (in a good way, though, with the Repugs actually LOWERING the minimum wage in some states – catching up some more from last week)…

…and normally I’d feature K.O.’s great vids a little higher in the posts, but, maybe only for today, I think the Russia stuff should take a back seat (what does it tell you that we need to de-prioritize what, to my mind, is full-on treason, as Olbermann points out, in favor of the potential destruction of one-sixth of our economy?)…

...and yeah, I know I've only been back for a few days, but after today's disgusting spectacle on Capitol Hill, I think we need to hear this song.

Monday Stuff

OK people, I’m back…had some glorious time off in our Blue State paradise for about a week, but now duty calls once more I suppose.

And by the way, for what it’s worth, I did a totally unscientific survey of 2016 election bumper stickers on MVY vehicles, and as you might expect, there were a few Trump/Pence ones on beat-up pickup trucks owned probably by construction people and general contractors (if I were to guess) and some Clinton/Kaine bumper stickers also on some random sedans (never could understand them using a symbol instead of just putting the names on the stickers, one of the MANY things wrong with that campaign as far as I’m concerned). Maybe there were slightly more Clinton/Kaine stickers than Trump stickers, but not by much. However, Bernie Sanders stickers were all over the place…not even close as to who was most popular on that basis.

With that being said, it’s time to dive into this as follows (and it looks like we’re still stuck with Generalissimo Trump…sigh)…

…and I know this is about a week old by now, but I just had to include this from Stephen Colbert…

...and all the best to Sen. John McCain (here) - yeah, I've made the "tire swing" jokes about his relationship with the Beltway media just like everyone else, but imagine a Republican candidate for president saying these words as opposed to the never-ending stream of oral diarrhea from Number 45 (hat tip to Ian Reifowitz of Daily Kos for the clip)...

...and widdle Spicey is OUTTA HERE too (as Paul Krugman said, condolences to Melissa McCarthy)...

...and yes, I'm definitely opposed to any attempt whatsoever to rehabilitate Former President Highest Disapproval Rating In Gallup Poll History (though I have to admit that his portrayal in the second Harold and Kumar movie was pretty funny), and I think people should lay off of Ellen DeGeneres and Jimmy Kimmel, but I still think we need this reminder…

...and RIP Martin Landau...

...and George Romero (John Heard also)...

...and Chester Bennington of Linkin Park.

Thursday Stuff

As concerning as the political chaos created by Putin, Trump & co. is, and it is that, the fact that those responsible have apparently done so with impunity – again, so far – may be the most repulsive development of all (was never quite scared of that episode of Star Trek, though, I have to say...and this is curious also)…

…and yeah, nothing to see here as far as the “party of Lincoln” is concerned – just collusion with a foreign hostile power trying to hack into our political infrastructure to help install their Russian operative who lost the popular vote by about 3 million, and are as of now are primed to do it all over again and hack into God knows what else…move along

…and I thought this was a pretty good response to this garbage from Dana Loesch…

…and I give you now the latest installment of “This Day In Doomsy History” from 7/13/12 – Social Security and Medicare are INSURANCE and NOT A SAFETY NET, as Stuart Zechman explains – important to keep in mind while politicians, mainly but not totally on the other side, try to come for something that we’ve paid into and deserve and they should keep their grubby mitts off of – bad sentence, but you know what I mean; a little wonky I’ll admit, but important stuff…

...and yep, activism ALWAYS matters, people (here)...

…and here’s another summer tune that I hope you enjoy.

And with that, I now take my leave of you for a little while – as long as I’ve been doing this, I don’t know if I’ve ever needed a vacation as much as I need this one. All things being equal and God willing, I’ll look to start this up again some time around the 24th or 25th…all the best.

Wednesday Stuff

I’m very aware that, while posting about Generalissimo Trump and his collusion with a foreign hostile power in pursuit of electoral victory, I haven’t been posting as much as I’d like about stuff like the environment, economy, Net Neutrality, what you could call the “last stand” for public education in this country at the hands of the thoroughly execrable Betsy DeVos, Net Neutrality, common-sense gun laws, protecting women’s health and health insurance for the majority of this country overall, etc. etc. etc. And I feel bad about that, but the Trump/Russia stuff is so monumentally awful that I believe it deserves exactly this kind of treatment (and those who did anything whatsoever to aid in the victory of President Impulse Control Issue Tiny-Handed Egomaniac deserve to be pilloried as much as the law and conscience allows).

And with that preface in mind completely, I’d like to turn to this video (a reminder that, as I said, the non-Trump stuff matters greatly also of course)…

…and I apologize a bit for making you endure the human stain that is Steven Arnold King once more, but I would ask that you watch this if for no other reason that for the very end…

…oh, and by the way, Scott Pruitt and the “Gropenfuhrer” are trying to overturn a rule protecting our clean water, as Ring of Fire’s Farron Cousins explains…

…also, lawmakers in AK have apparently passed a law requiring a woman to get permission from someone who impregnated them to dispose of the fetal remains, which is yet another slide down the slippery legal slope to fetal personhood (yeah, I’m definitely not an expert in the Old Testament, but I have to admit that I think that’s a pretty creepy passage from Numbers also)…

…and a Pew poll indicates that most Republicans are opposed to college, as Kyle tells us – almost no words at this point (NSFW…a little too dismissive of religion as far as I’m concerned, however)…

…and it’s been a little while since I brought you a song from 1967, so here’s another one (yes, this cover was from ’68, but the original was written the year before) – I always thought “The Big Lebowski” was one of the most overrated movies I ever saw…the Coens are great filmmakers, though I personally think they get a bit excessive now and then…maybe just me I know.
