Friday Stuff

Yeah, you said you’d “protect” Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid all right, President-Elect Big Orange Cheetoh – the tape doesn’t lie (here); in response, though, I’d like to ask the following question: what was the political party of the presidential administrations that enacted these fine (and highly popular) programs (it wasn’t YOURS, that’s for damn sure)?

And by the way, just how big a scumbag is Trump’s HHS nominee Tom Price, with his syrupy, country-sounding music in the background while he pledges to destroy that dastardly “Democrat” program known as the Affordable Care Law? As noted here, fewer Republicans say they want the law repealed, while more say they want it “scaled back,” whatever the hell that means…and we’re only talking about 26-30 percent of the overall population, by the way, probably the same knuckleheads who still think Obama is a Muslim and Hillary Clinton should go to jail.

As far as I’m concerned, if you were dumb enough to buy the snake oil these characters were selling (on everything, but for Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid for the time being), then you deserve what you get – the problem is that practically the rest of us will be hurt too…

...and Kyle K. tries to answer the question I posed above (NSFW – yeah, that description of the Repugs is totally apropos, and the Dems too unfortunately)...

…and I thought David Pakman did a good job of dissecting this alleged victory by “Donald Drumpf” in keeping about 1,000 Carrier jobs in this country (with the parent company residing in the home state of VP-elect Mike Pence…how con-vee-nient - more here)…

…and equally ridiculous, if not more so, was the Thanksgiving message from President-Elect “Fergus Laing,” as K.O. tells us in another great commentary from “The Resistance”…

Oh, and in a story not directly related, it turns out that wingnut actor Mike Rowe is all PO’ed at Hampshire College for refusing to fly the American flag in protest of Generalissimo Trump (here - and this is typical also). OK, that’s his opinion – I get it.

Given that, I’d like to know what Rowe thinks of this, this, and this.

…and when I heard that Howard Dean was running to head the DNC once more, I thought he would be perfect, but after watching U.S. House Rep Keith Ellison in this interview with Chris Hayes, I think I’m changing my mind (Ellison, you’ll recall, is the person who made this prescient observation)…

Update 12/5/16: This counts even more heavily in Ellison's favor as far as I'm concerned.

...and time once more for a seasonal selection.

Thursday Stuff

Yeah, President-Elect Fergus Laing is truly compiling a “cabinet of deplorables,” as it were, and if you DIDN’T think that Trump would bring back the dregs of Bushco, including the person highlighted in the following clip, then you’re dumber than a bag of rocks (more here...I've never featured the guy in this video before, and if he thinks "Infowars" will touch this, then he is very much mistaken)…

…also Chris Hayes talks with Linda Sarsour about those oh-so-brave-in-their-imaginations voters for “Donald Drumpf” who now feel empowered to be even bigger assholes than they already are…

…and I have a couple of items I’ve been meaning to get to, so I’ll do so here; first, Alex Witt talks to Victoria DeFrancesco about the Repugs and all of their “Sanctuary Cities” BS (from the party that supposedly is opposed to “big gumint,” of course – I would say that we’re going to have GIGANTIC “big gumint” under President Fergus Laing…the takeaway for me on this is that, yes Virginia, if an “illegal” commits a crime, the Feds can indeed get them even if they live in a “sanctuary city”…great job by our corporate media to fail to explain THIS also, among other screw-ups, and yes, I'm being sarcastic)…

…second, Kyle K. tells us that “Governor Bully” opposes pot legalization in NJ, as stated on a radio call-in show (NSFW – yeah, typically the first thing Christie does is rip the caller, who admittedly was wrong…I think there should be selective legalization for medical reasons and some other exceptions, but I definitely favor decriminalization)…

…and I know I have to play catch-up on some of K.O.’s great “The Resistance” commentaries, like this one…

...and here is another seasonal number.

Wednesday Stuff

(Hat tip to Kriston Capps and John Fugelsang on Twitter for the pic, which speaks volumes as far as I'm concerned)

Gosh, how charming – an anti-Muslim letter from Trump supporters with overtones of Hitler (U-S-A! U-S-A! Oh, and any chance of a protest from President-Elect Big Orange Cheetoh? Don’t hold your breath…interesting idea from Ana, I must say – I think it should be expanded, actually, to folks of other ethnicities, people with disabilities, people living in poor neighborhoods, single-parent families, etc.)…

…and I thought this was an enlightening segment about Generalissimo Trump and the world wide web, as it were, with The Internet Archive trying to open up a facility in Canada because they're concerned about what "Donald Drumpf" will do when it comes to trying to curtail free speech, which he said he would do during the campaign, actually - also noted are all of the bottom-feeders from Fix Noise who will now reside in the administration of this utter fraud; I wish Rachel wasn't smiling so much over this stuff, but I'm sure her Comcast overlords won't permit the outrage that is entirely appropriate…

…and I give you the latest installment of “This Day In Doomsy History” from 11/30/09; Keith Olbermann told Number 44 that we need to get out of Afghanistan, no less true now than it was 7 years ago...there are a few things that Number 44 can do in his way out (including firing James Comey and cleaning out the FBI office in NYC), and committing to getting us out of the land where empires crumble should be pretty high on his list IMHO...

…and I give you another seasonal number – sometimes you get so fed up with it all that the only thing left to do is dance.

Tuesday Stuff

I give you the latest on the “day of disruption” (otherwise known as the “fight for $15”) here and here (video focuses on a protest at a McDonald’s in Denver...and why am I not surprised by this?)…

…and Dem U.S. Senator Chris Murphy talks with Chris Hayes about the latest idiocy (in foreign policy this time) from the demented child-king about to take office (dear God)…

…in addition, Sam Seder and Janeane Garofalo provide commentary on John Dickinson (of "Faze The Nation") and his ridiculous attempt to walk VP-elect Mike Pence through another softball interview (Garofalo’s disgust is completely appropriate as far as I’m concerned, and I totally agree with her sentiment – if it were just a matter of Republican voters getting hurt from this garbage, I would care absolutely nothing since they deserve all this, and more...NSFW)…

…continuing, I’d totally glossed over the fact that there’s still one U.S. Senate seat in Louisiana that is currently still being contested with a runoff scheduled for 12/10 (here); the Dem is Foster Campbell, featured in the Rachel Maddow clip below (to help, click here)…

Update: Uh, yep.

…and today marks the 15th anniversary of the passing of George Harrison

…and fortunately, we have the seasonal selections to briefly take our minds off of our current difficulty.

Monday Stuff

I don’t really have anything particularly brilliant to say about the passing of Fidel Castro, except to say that, as nearly as I could tell, he was a brutal tyrant who doesn’t deserve to be remembered fondly by anyone (here). And yeah, I speculated on his death over 10 years ago here, for what that’s worth, and he managed to outlive 10 U.S. presidents, which I guess is no small feat. He was also a master manipulator who was able to parlay our clumsy attempts to undermine him into some kind of heroic image to people who, as far as I’m concerned, didn’t know any better for whatever reason. However, there are a lot of people who, for good or ill, show themselves to be skilled at the same propagandistic bent that Castro employed (Yasir Arafat and “Bibi” come quickly to mind...maybe "Number 45" too...), and I don’t think they deserve any hosannas either.

Oh, and closer to home, just remember that “now is not the time to talk about common-sense gun control” (here - and yeah, he allegedly used a knife and a car too, but I still think my point is valid)…

…also, I thought Thom Hartmann had a really good commentary here on the latest utterly preposterous lie from President-Elect “Donald Drumpf” and how that is used as bait for our corporate media to ignore much bigger issues with this rapacious pirate who, quite probably, will be taking up space in An Oval Office before too long (ugh – good job to link it to Kris Kobach & ALEC)…

…and keeping with the utter misery that will inflict us after 1/20/17 as of now, Rachel Maddow tells us about the popular vote discrepancy in the election…if HRC had won the electoral vote and “Fergus Laing” had won the popular vote, do you want to know how loudly our Beltway courtier media would be SCREAMING at a President-Elect Clinton to appoint a “bipartisan” cabinet? (and by the way, though Rutherford B. Hayes was, for all appearances, an “accidental” president and we had awful labor strife during his term in office, there was more to him in terms of understanding workers’ grievances than meets the eye…more nuance than we’ll ever get out of the person soon to take the reins at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue)…...

…and gosh, color me shocked; Generalissimo Trump’s supposed infrastructure plan is nothing but a scam, as Joy Reid (sitting in for Rachel) and Ron Klain (of “Recount” fame) tell us…

...and K.O. is back with his #3 video in his series "The Resistance" (I once did a report on Benjamin Franklin Bache; can't tell you whatever happened to it – yeah, with hindsight, you can say that President John Adams overreacted, but you’d have to go back and read about what kind of names public figures used to be called back then…stuff I’d rather not repeat here actually)…...

…and yeah, Jimmy Dore has done more than a little to piss me off over the election, but he and Steve Oh are absolutely right here about what’s going on with the police at the Standing Rock protest in North Dakota; I know there are good cops and I’m sure some of these characters were told to do the garbage they’re doing to the protestors or they’re fired, even though that’s still no excuse – tells you how clueless the Hillary Clinton campaign was that they didn’t see this opportunity to show up and lend support somehow just by talking to the protestors…I really don’t think Bernie Sanders would have needed prodding to do that (NSFW of course)…

..and I’ll be the first to admit that this is kind of a clumsy transition to the seasonal stuff (I promise to get back to actual new music one of these days), but between the prior video and the next one, it’s hard to figure out which cops are really acting like cartoons and which ones aren’t.
