Saturday Stuff

I’m going to try and keep this post as upbeat as I can in the spirit of the holiday and try to provide as much of a respite as possible for the 4th, though I admit that you-know-who is in the following clip for a second…

…and I guess this counts as another “This Day In Doomsy History” entry, since I first put it up a year ago…

…and here are two holiday songs that I don’t believe I’ve ever shown before for some reason (the second features the late, great Danny Federici on accordion).

Friday Stuff

Chris Hayes demonstrates what for yours truly is the plainly obvious fact that this country is a “national laughing stock” before the whole world on COVID-19 of course…

…and to give you an example of how we ended up in this sorry state, Brian Tyler Cohen gives us this clip of Neil Cavuto talking with Repug U.S. House Rep Andy Biggs, basically laughing off all of the COVID-19 devastation in his home state of Arizona, to the point when even Cavuto gets fed up (oh, and ha ha, here is more “hilarity”)…

…and in a related vein (when it comes to the person chiefly responsible for this mess, who actually said this also - typical for him, though), this clip is slightly NSFW/H, but I still think it’s a great ad…

…and no, I’m not happy that Amy McGrath won and Charles Booker lost in the Dem KY U.S. Senate primary, but we are where we are, as Cenk and Ana of TYT tell us (and we need to support McGrath now of course) – one aspect of this that worries me for the fall is that McGrath, despite the ridiculous spending advantage she had as well as media coverage, still lost the two biggest counties in the commonwealth of Kentucky, and that would be Jefferson and Fayette, which of course are predominantly African American and voted for Booker…it’s going to take some imagination and a decided swing to the left to bring the Booker voters onboard, and I just don’t see the Dem “axis of fail” (referring to the Beltway corporate media/political insiders who do a very effective job of LOSING elections for Democrats, favored by Schumer and Pelosi of course) being able to pull that off…I have a feeling that they’re wetting themselves over the prospect of attacks of being “too liberal” coming from Sen. Mr. Elaine Chao, which will happen anyway regardless (and believe me when I tell you that I’d love to be wrong about all this – would be nice to get some GOOD news on this stuff for a change)…

…and RIP Hugh Downs, another longtime icon of TV who recently passed (Downs apparently favored legalizing recreational weed also, which I thought was interesting)…

…and speaking of “grass” of another type, I feel like I need upbeat tunes more and more with all of the raging insanity, and I think the time is right for this one.

Thursday Stuff

Farron Cousins tells us that, apparently, Senator “Aqua Buddha” Paul only wants good news when it comes to COVID-19 from Dr. Anthony Fauci – typical (for a dose of painful reality of how we fell on our metaphorical faces as a country on this, click here...and yeah, if you want to subject yourself to the entire Paul/Fauci exchange, click here)…

…and Sam and Michael Brooks of The Majority Report give us a report on Florida and Ron DeSantis, who is, in part, the inspiration for the pic at the top of this post (interesting take on NYC, and probably dead-on)…

…and turning to Texas, Ana and John I. tell us that, yes, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick truly is that big of a scumbag (yep, let’s let grammy and grandpop “die for the Dow” and blame those dastardly blue states again…and yeah, attacking Dr. Fauci again like that fool Rand Paul – like to see where Patrick got his medical degree)…

Update: Sometimes, there are just no words for "Bedbug Bret" and his idiocy (h/t Atrios).

…meanwhile, for the sane, adult point of view on this, I give you Dr. Peter Hotez speaking with Rachel Maddow on a potential COVID vaccine and the explosion of cases in Texas – “these are vertical curves at this point”…oh, sorry that isn’t more good news for Rand Paul and Dan Patrick in particular…

…and Brian Tyler Cohen shows us this clip of Biden being presidential again, to his credit (didn’t see much “cognitive decline” from Joe here – hopefully he can keep that up for as long as needed)…

…and apparently, some QAnon lunatic won a Republican U.S. congressional primary, this time in Colorado…just what we need in the midst of a global pandemic and a collapsed economy; a Sarah Palin reboot (here)…

…and I thought this was a pretty nice tribute to Carl Reiner from Lawrence O’Donnell, and yes, Reiner ended up in TV and movies after studying acting through the WPA before he was drafted to fight in World War II…yeah, there goes that bad “big gumint” actually doing something constructive to help people’s lives again (referring to the WPA, though I guess the military could help also in the right circumstance)…

…and sticking with entertainment, RIP to composer Johnny Mandel, with perhaps his most famous tune.

Wednesday Stuff

It looks like the EU isn’t allowing U.S. travelers in the wake of COVID-19; gee, who’s living in a “sh*thole” country now, I wonder?…and I don’t know who this news mannequin is (not referring to Richard Engel of course), but if he thinks mentioning Mango Mussolini is going to curry some favor, he is sadly mistaken…

…and speaking of Our Orange Pestilence, here is another blistering ad against the Gropenfuhrer over the bounty stuff, this time from The Lincoln Project (appropriately NSFW/H)…

…and I thought this was a pretty good report on voting by mail, with more untruths on the subject from our Liar-In-Chief (who, of course, votes by mail himself, along with most of his playmates...more here)…

…and I knew the story of what the Philly cops did in response to the June 1st protests that followed the death of George Floyd was bad, but I didn’t know HOW bad until I watched this video – I know people have been demoted and will likely be fired, but I think there should be criminal prosecutions against some of these cops who “penned” people up the hill from I-676 and didn’t give them a way out, and I don’t say that lightly…

…and I now give you the latest installment of “This Day In Doomsy History” from 7/1/10, in which former Repug U.S. House Speaker John “Man Tan” Boehner once called Wall Street reform in the wake of the ’08 financial crisis “trying to kill an ant with a nuclear weapon,” as noted in the clip…this video makes us recall (as far as I’m concerned) the fact that the “party of Lincoln” doesn’t give a damn about judicious oversight of spending (I wish we could kill the “zombie lie” stating otherwise once and for all), whether or not it’s our tax dollars or any kind of regulation concerning the “haves” at the expense of the “have nots” (more evidence in support of that argument is here)…

…and it looks like the Our Orange Dictator Wannabe is messing with songs without approval again, as noted here – would love to see what happened if these guys sued him, though I’m sure our Grifter-In-Chief would find a way to stiff them as he has with so many others.

Tuesday Stuff

This ad from Vote Vets pulls absolutely no punches, nor should it - punish our *president,* everyone who allowed this ruinous administration to ever exist, and anyone who continues to allow it to act with impunity…

…and speaking of the Gropenfuhrer, doesn’t it make you happy to learn that he thinks COVID-19 is an “artificial” problem (to the extent that he even “thinks” at all – Ana and Cenk of TYT explain)…

…and I give Thom Hartmann credit for reminding us of the history of what led up to this (dealing with Republicans and what I guess you would call “transactional power”…not the biggest fan of “vision statements,” but yeah, for someone in public life, I agree with Thom…and for more on what he is talking about at the end, I definitely recommend this book – clip is from 6/17)…

…and I thought this was a particularly interesting clip from David Doel about what Door Dash, for example, is doing to support BLM on the one hand but fighting California labor law on the other…

…oh, and don’t hold your breath waiting for these two lunatics in St. Louis to be prosecuted for waving their guns at protestors, who, as far as I can determine, were peaceful and not breaking any laws (more here - I think I saw something on Twitter saying that these two are lawyers – if they were any other skin color, how much longer do you think they’d be breathing before the cops finished them off?)…

…and celebrities come and celebrities go I realize, but a giant has truly left our midst, and I’m referring to Mr. Carl Reiner, featured in this Conan O’Brien clip talking about The Dick Van Dyke Show (here is a link to a particularly funny episode IMHO featuring Reiner in his younger days)…

…and sticking with artistic geniuses, I think these are truly important words from Mr. Stevie Wonder – “A movement without action is a movement standing still” indeed, though, to be fair, we have seen plenty of action over the last month or so, and we all need to keep at it…

…and if ever there was a Stevie Wonder song aimed right at Our Orange Pestilence, I think it would be this one.

Monday Stuff

Not one damn thing wrong with this Lincoln Project ad...

…and speaking of outrages, I now give you the latest installment of “This Day In Doomsy History” (more or less) from 6/28/13 (the late, great Ed Schultz tells the story of the Rand Paul campaign worker, some life form named Tim Profitt, who was brought up on assault charges for stomping on the head of a female MoveOn worker during the 2010 campaign against Dem Jack Conway when “Aqua Buddha” Paul was first elected to the U.S. Senate…and of course, since we’re talking about Republicans and Kentucky, Profitt got off with probation of course; clip originally aired in 10/27/10…disturbing parallel to the event which started the recent protests, I would say – more here and here)…

...and returning to our utter train wreck of a *presidential administration, Cenk and Ana of TYT tell us that the rats are starting to flee the sinking ship of state, as it were (and yes, John Thune truly is that big of a tool…indeed, this is good news, but despite that, we should never “measure the drapes” and instead always campaign like we’re behind)…

…a point echoed in this Farron Cousins clip (it will take a loooong time to fix everything, though, as Cousins points out, in particular the courts...and thanks to Sen. Mr. Elaine Chao for that also)…

...and of course, since it's a day of the week with a "y" in it, Mango Mussolini is trying to kill the ACA again in the middle of a pandemic when a lot of people have lost their employer-pair-for health insurance (and check out those sh*t-eating grins from Roy Blunt and #midnightmoscowmitch...truly sickening)…

...and gee, didn't Dan Patrick basically tell us a little while ago that grammy and grandpa have to be sacrificed for the economy? And didn't he say that about himself too? And yeah, I guess Laura Ingraham is truly that much of a monster to be laughing at a possible (likely) increase in hospitalizations, as Sam and the crew from "The Majority Report" tell us...

…but despite the failing political fortunes of Our Orange Pestilence, I’m sure there are no-underwear-wearing “Karens” out there who will still pull the lever for him on November 3rd, along with the other life forms in this clip (yep, definitely “TMI,” and I agree with this – after watching this video, I may never visit Florida again)…

…and especially after watching that last clip, I think I need a “feel good, summer-ish” kind of a fairly recent video, and I think this works.
