Want to know why the Repugs keep coming back OVER AND OVER AND OVER to try and kill the Affordable Care Law, which has been upheld by not one but two Supreme Court rulings, to say nothing of loud voiciferous protests ALL OVER THE COUNTRY telling these Congressional bottom feeders to LEAVE IT THE HELL ALONE (more here)?

Because of human stains like this Anthem Blue Cross guy who Elizabeth Warren is questioning here, who represents the true “base” of the party; yeah, that was his canned answer and Warren didn’t really speak to it, probably because she rightly IMHO realized it was utter nonsense.

(Oh, and don’t listen to Warren according to that idiot Jimmy Dore, because Warren is a “corporate Dem” who has fought more battles in the public area for us that Dore ever will in his entire life.)...



…and K.O., for my money, connects a hell of a lot of dots here in terms of just what happened in last year’s presidential election; what I’d like to know is Mark Zuckerberg’s reaction to all of this given that the Facebook genius got utterly played here by Russia and the Repugs…



…and for the love of God, somebody get this lunatic out of the White House somehow before he blows up the whole goddamn world already (and I don’t think the Gropenfuhrer has the foggiest idea of what is in the Iran nuclear deal, by the way – more here)…


…and for a bit of much-needed comic relief, Cenk tells us that the wingnuts are now mad at “The Man of Steel” (way too damn funny)…

…and Rachel Maddow talks here with Dem U.S. House Rep Adam Schiff of the U.S. House Intelligence Committee over the Repugs and their apparent inconsistencies about sending out subpoenas – they seem to be in a hurry this time to try and discredit the Steele Dossier, which looks more and more credible (important Schiff update is here – more here)…



…and boy, do I hope some of these conservative numbskulls need medical treatment from an RN, in particular Tucker and this Gregg Re life form – I’m sure the nurses will be nothing but professional as they just about always are, but it will still give me a laugh (didn’t realize the cops may not have been allowed to conduct a high-speed chase also, by the way…this has to do with the Utah nurse who was roughed up by the idiot cop, even though she was doing her job in exemplary fashion)…

“Pardon” me if I point out, as K.O. notes, that Generalissimo Trump may exceed his presidential authority at long last if he tries to do his inner circle, as well as himself of course, too many favors - yeah, any “Trumpster” who gets a pardon would surely be unable to take the fifth, as it were, when giving legal testimony…



…and I thought Bill Maher made a great point about getting it in writing, as it were, when it comes to the Gropenfuhrer (NSFW)…



…and yesterday I noted the 20th anniversary of the death of Princess Diana; I think this video gives us some important history on her impact, which (again, as noted yesterday) will be ongoing well into the future…


…and, as he is on all things, in this case on Harvey, our Tiny-Handed Problem Child of a preznit is a thoroughly unrepentant liar (more here, here and here)...


…and Joy Reid talks with Jose Antonio Vargas about what Number 45 may do or not do regarding DACA (more here and here)…



…and like most of this country, apparently, I’m pretty damn angry about this story about the Utah “detective” Jeff Payne who decided that he had the right to manhandle a nurse (Alex Wubbels) who, in the process of doing her duty in commendable fashion, refused to provide a blood sample because the patient she was treating wasn’t charged in a crime; I don’t know about Utah, but assault of a nurse is a felony in PA – should be that way nation-wide.

And maybe I’m reaching a bit here, but I’m going to say this – I’m fed up with having to include as a prefix to comments like this that “Of course, we should do all we can to support law enforcement.” As far as I’m concerned, that goes without saying.

The problem (as is usually the case with these stories of cops behaving badly) is that, though the vast, overwhelming majority of the men and women of law enforcement are great and courageous and DO INDEED deserve our support, there are a few of the proverbial bad apples giving them a bad name with stuff like this. And apparently, they don’t (hope you’ll excuse the expression) “police” themselves nearly as much as they should.

If Payne is charged (and why the hell wouldn’t he be?), tried, and convicted, he should be sentenced to 10 years at a minimum, hard time. A message should have gone out like that long before now when it comes to excesses by the cops, to say nothing of police shootings we know about (and I don’t think it’s wrong to conflate stories like this with Philando Castille, Eric Garner, Tamir Rice, etc. – it’s all about bad cop behavior regardless of skin color…more here and here)…


(By the way, subsequent to this, I ended up watching the entire unedited exchange – Payne was looking for trouble from the get-go, and his fellow officers really didn’t do a hell of a lot to rein him in as far as I could tell.)

…and Wednesday marked what would have been the 73rd birthday of The Eternal Molly Ivins - I’m not 100 percent sure of what judicial hearings they’re referring to, but Clarence Thomas was ’91 and her book mentioned…which was great, by the way…appears on Amazon as having been published in ’92…sorry, but I’ll try to dust off my memory banks again on that one; love the stuff on Dan Quayle, who, next to Trump, looks like an intellectual giant (also love the way she gets in her remarks and then smiles knowingly to the audience)…



…and it occurred to me recently that, for all the times I’ve been including summer songs at this site, I don’t think I’ve ever had anything by The Beach Boys – not sure why not, but I’d like to take care of that now.

…and as I watched this clip of VP Mike Pence talking about the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina from 2005, I have to admit that I went along with him until he got to that ridiculous statement at the end about “a catastrophe of debt for our children and grandchildren”…of course, not a word about those still-ridiculous tax cuts and our bloated defense budget – naaah, let’s just kick those grifting “poors” one more time, huh? And typically disgusting for Pence to use the Bible as a defense, of course…


…and hey, all of you “sanctuary cities” idiots like Sen. Pat Toomey, pay attention to this story in Texas about one of the bills you supported that was just blocked by a federal judge (and once more, to help those suffering from the effects of Harvey, please click here)…



…and Cenk and Ana tells us about Georgia state rep Jason Spencer who threatened a former legislator who wants to remove Confederate statues (LOVE the responses from LaDawn Jones too)…




…and I’ll admit that this may not be as big of a deal here “across the pond” as in the U.K. (well, maybe it is for the more celebrity-conscious of us), but Princess Diana died in that horrific auto crash 20 years ago today (here) – much to admire about her as far as I’m concerned, including supporting the treaty to ban land mines among her myriad charitable efforts (a treaty which, to my knowledge, we’ve never supported…her legacy lives on with William and Harry and the grandkids too of course)…still recall how mangled that Mercedes Benz looked after the tunnel crash and wondered how anyone could have survived, though bodyguard Trevor Rees-Jones did somehow fortunately – later on we found out basically that driver Henri Paul had taken enough medication to stock a pharmacy shelf or two…if you ever find yourself in London, I would encourage a trip to Harrod’s, if for no other reason than to see the memorial to her and Dodi Fayed in the basement…when I think of Diana, though, this 1967 tune comes to mind, for better or worse...not meant as a criticism.

…and this is one of the scariest clips I’ve seen in a while, and it is Thom Hartmann telling us the historical precedent for what will be the likely discrediting of the so-called “antifa” movement (though, to be honest, I’m not sure how much the group is helping – here)…

…and speaking of Houston, I thought this was a good report on what had a lot to do with the flooding, and that was sprawl that ended up paving over wetlands that could have absorbed a lot of the water (personally, I’ve seen more sprawl in my life than I ever want to see again…there were other factors I’m sure, and the main thing to do now is to help people first I realize and do the soul-searching, and hopefully implement policy and environmental changes as needed, later)…



…and speaking of the flooding, yes, Governor Bully is a highly imperfect messenger on this subject (here), but he’s absolutely spot-on here…


…returning to the Russia stuff, I know at this point we really shouldn’t be shocked to hear that Generalissimo Trump had a deal to build another one of his ridiculous monuments to utter decadence, this time in Moscow, during the 2016 presidential election, but that is in fact true based on this (Number 45 has made an utter joke of so much pertaining to presidential traditions, and one of those traditions is upholding the emoluments clause, for which he should go to prison for a very, very long time, among other odious reasons).



…and K.O., to his ongoing credit, continues to beat the drum against the Gropenfuhrer and his enablers; God, what a nauseating, nightmarish series of events…



…oh, and don’t look now, but apparently North Korea fired a missile over Japan…

Indianapolis was recently found, but quite rightly will remain entombed since it truly is hallowed ground (harks back to the scene in “Jaws” where Quint, played by Robert Shaw, recounts the horror of what happened…that scene was originally scripted by John Milius, by the way, but Shaw himself edited it and delivered it of course)…



…and the Syrian artist who is the subject of this clip is my hero of the week…maybe the whole month actually…


…and I’m sure he gets referred to as Willie’s son a lot, which I think would be pretty cool if it were me, actually – sure he feels the same way.

Thursday Stuff

Rachel Maddow talks to Malcolm Nance about the Fusion GPS (and Glenn Simpson) corroboration of the Steele Dossier, which is looking more and more legit – not good news for the Gropenfuhrer…



…and K.O. tells us about all of those backing away from the Dear Leader (including our beloved commonwealth of PA – as far as I’m concerned, the fact that we helped to install this utterly toxic fraud will be a source of eternal shame)…



…and if you want to see how Generalissimo Trump typically lied in his little Phoenix gathering of upright, biped life forms recently, I would ask that you watch this video (and click here)…


…and oh yeah: Rex Tillerson, please call your office (and I don’t mean ExxonMobil)…


…and I can’t think of a word to describe how silly this is (I think Nomiki Konst is exactly right about what ESPN could have done so nobody would have been the wiser)…



And by the way, I’d like to change the topic a bit before I put up the music video.

In a word, I don’t think the national Democratic Party has learned a damn thing after the 2016 election. We’re still playing defense (OMIGOD, STOP TRUMP! GIVE US MONEY!) and sending out Emails with scary subject lines (AWFUL NEWS! STOP TRUMP!). And by pointing that out, I’m not saying that you shouldn’t give money to Democrats (and I’m DEFINITELY not saying you shouldn’t STOP TRUMP).

Update 8/28/17: Oh, and today's screaming Email from the DCCC says "We're BEGGING!" (just an FYI).

And yes, I know my video selections have been pretty much devoted to Trump/Russia, and maybe I need to do more to get out a positive message too. I’ll do what I can to change that.

I’ve had this on my mind since watching the most recent episode of “Real Time With Bill Maher” with former San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom, who said, in about a minute or two, that the Democrats have to figure out what they are, present a positive, alternative vision of this country, and THEN go out and try to get people to join and contribute! Yes, the Trump/Russia stuff and all of Number 45’s miseries need to be addressed, but (and here I go again, I know) THE DEMOCRATS HAVE TO FIND A WAY TO BE INCLUSIVE AGAIN AND NOT JUST THINK PEOPLE WILL VOTE FOR THEM BECAUSE ZOMG THE REPUGS ARE NUTS!!!

The closest I’ve seen to this are the so-called “Justice Democrats” such as Ro Khanna that potty mouth Kyle Kulinski talks about. And yes, DNC centrist losers, maybe there are some aspects of Bernie Sanders’s campaign that puts you off. But he did a hell of a lot better job of galvanizing support in the last election than anyone else did, SO YOU’D BETTER SURE AS HELL TAKE A PAGE FROM HIS BOOK, OR EVEN THE WHOLE DAMN BOOK ITSELF! In short (And once again, here I go again), we’d better figure out a way to bring these internal factions of ours together and end this damn circular firing squad (how about a summit with, say, David Sirota and Peter Daou for starters?).

Farron Cousins tells us that Mr.-Puppy-Dog-Eyes-With-The-Shiv got burned by a Catholic nun recently – good one, sister – of course, you’re not hearing nearly enough like this from the U.S. Council of Catholic Bishops despite what Cousins says…



…and as noted here, Chile just voted to overturn its abortion ban (speaking of religion – figures that it went into law under Pinochet)…


…and I don’t think I’ve ever included a video from Morning Jo(ke) before, and I won’t make a habit of it, but I thought it was appropriate to do so given President Tiny-Handed Egomaniac’s ridiculous prattling about the media and Charlottesville last night in Phoenix (God, what a whiny little bitch, as Bill Maher says!)…



…and K.O. tells us that maybe Robert Mueller is starting to figure out exactly how to get Generalissimo Trump…we can only hope and pray, and then of course go to work to elect Democrats. Would that bring in change for real? Yeah, it would…



…and I know I’m a little behind the news cycle on this, but as noted here, the Gropenfuhrer is blowing off the Kennedy Center Awards...

Tuesday Stuff


I honestly don’t know what else we could have expected out of Generalissimo Trump on Afghanistan (here); I believe it was Rick Wilson who said that our preznit had the attention span of a gnat on meth – Dear Leader pretty much has struck out on everything he’s made a half-hearted attempt to do, and I would say that he’s keeping that string intact…



…and Rachel Maddow tells us about the hissy fit staged on Instagram by the wife of Steve Mnuchin, sandwiched in between a truly sobering reminder about this country and our ongoing involvement noted above (more here)…



…and Amy Goodman on Democracy Now talks with the descendants of Stonewall Jackson who want the Confederate statues taken down, particularly those of their great, great grandfather...



…the "the old gray lady" goes from #45 back to Reagan on related issues to see how race and tolerance were handled by prior presidents (re, Charalottesville of course...I’m glad they saved the Obama clip for the end, but there must have been something from #42 – surprised it wasn’t included)…



…oh, and by the way, just a minor detail I know, but it turns out that the Gropenfuhrer’s vacations are bankrupting the Secret Service…

Monday Stuff


I thought this was a pretty good video that pretty much demolishes the whole white culture mythology…


…partly exemplified by a nut down under, as it were, as noted here…


…and kudos to these men marching for women’s rights…


…and when it comes to race, I think this is a pretty good PSA…


…and I don’t touch on world stuff too often unless something bad happens, I know (I used to devote more time to that stuff in the early days, before my for-profit activities just about totally took over), but I thought this was interesting, particularly since we just travelled “across the pond” about a year ago – it looks like the chimes of Big Ben will fall silent until 2021 due to repairs…



…and be careful if you decide to watch the eclipse, people (more here and here...I think we’re about halfway through at this point in my neck of the woods).

Sunday Stuff


I have a question – am I supposed to be in mourning for this guy?

Because, just to let you know, I’m not.

Yes, give Jerry Lewis credit for raising $2.6 billion to fight Muscular Dystrophy, a truly mind-boggling sum, as noted here.

But as far as I’m concerned, he wasn’t funny. This business about him supposedly being some kind of a comedy god is some of the most preposterous nonsense I’ve ever heard. And yes, I get it that humor is completely subjective – there are people out there who will never get Monty Python, for example, and that doesn’t mean that my sense of humor is better than theirs. It just means that they’re different, that’s all.

Here is how I look at it, though: Pratfalls? Mugging for the camera? Any idiot can do that.

Oh, and there’s this:
Jerry Lewis criticized President Obama and praised Donald Trump in an interview on World Over with Raymond Arroyo; the iconic comedian also slammed the Syrian refugee program, telling Arroyo “refugees should stay where the hell they are.”

“No one has worked harder for the human condition than I have, but they’re not part of the human condition,” Lewis continued. “If 11 guys in the group of 10,000 are ISIS, how can I take the chance? I don’t want to lose another Frenchman or another Englishman. That bothers me.”
“No one has worked harder for the human condition than I have”? Really? Throughout all of recorded history?

More than, say, Mother Teresa? Jonas Salk? Gregor Mendel? Saint Augustine?

And refugees “should stay where the hell they are”? Gee, it’s a good thing nobody took that advice prior to, say, the Industrial Revolution, or else many millions including your humble narrator probably wouldn’t be here. Oh, but they’re “not part of the human condition,” so why bother, right?

And according to World Nut Daily (here), Lewis said that President Obama was a “failed leader.”

What a clown. And I don’t mean that in terms of the comedic arts…

…but here is somebody who just left us REALLY worthy of tribute as far as I’m concerned; RIP Dick Gregory (I may feature another clip or two with him this week)…


…and on a more positive note, kudos to everyone in Boston who stood tall yesterday (here – good one by comedian George Wallace)…


…and K.O. is out once more with another “past is prologue” thing featuring the late columnist Art Buchwald…



…and yeah, I need to get back to my summer tunes, including this one.
