I know that at a certain point we’re pretty much restating the obvious with this, especially since we’re now talking about the Gropenfuhrer and his “executive orders” which of course highlight his demented pre-schooler’s notions of how our government works…yeah, payroll tax “relief” is intended pretty much to try and starve Social Security, which Republicans have wanted for about 80 years…and besides, as others smarter than I have noted, what the hell good does payroll tax relief do when you no longer have a job in the first place? (and sure, climate change is such a "hoax," right?)...



…and Rachel Maddow tells us in this clip what Our Orange Pestilence is basically trying to do for the upcoming election 1) Try to wreck the Post Office in anticipation of big numbers of mail-in ballots coming, 2) Run up bogus third-party candidates to try and siphon votes, and 3) Use the latest Russian operative to try and gather dirt on Joe Biden and used Sens. RoJo and Grasshole to propagate it into the congressional record (what country am I living in again?...and related to 1), she discusses the recent "Friday Night Massacre")…



…and Brett Erlich and Ben Dixon of TYT tell us about CNN’s Erin Burnett handing Trumpster Peter Navarro his lunch over the latter's invocation of Dilbert cartoonist Scott Adams in defense of hydroxychloroquine...yeah, I think this breaks the stoo-pid meter (and yeah, I would say that we need yet another investigation into how Navarro got all of these damn pills that don't effectively treat COVID-19, and who paid for them - probably not hard to guess)…



…and I now give you the latest installment of “This Day In Doomsy History” (more or less) from 8/9/16… Sam Seder speaks with his daughter about a 10-year-old boy yelling “take the bitch down,” with the approval of his mother of course, aimed at Hillary Clinton at a Trump rally, back when the lying, rudeness, profanity, racism and misogyny of the Trump gang was still just a disgusting novelty and not a sickening ongoing characteristic of our political culture, yet…



…and Farron Cousins brings us another study telling us that Fix Noise is trying to break our brains – his point about trying to obtain different viewpoints is a good one, and I honestly would go to sites like National Review Online, The Weekly Standard, Townhall, AEI, and the Murdoch Street Journal before the pay wall, but honestly, these people were such utterly shameless liars that I eventually gave up…

David Pakman’s description of the latest gonzo presser from Our Orange Dictator as “weaponized ignorance and aggressive delusion” is maybe the best summary of these nutty encounters with the Fourth Estate that I’ve yet heard – every once in a while, I guess I need to pay attention to these utter train wrecks, and I think Pakman’s commentary is spot on…

…and speaking of anniversaries, yesterday marked the 75th one of the dropping of the “A” bomb on Hiroshima, and Sunday marks the same for Nagasaki (here) – I may end up losing liberal brownie points for saying that, as horrible as that was, I don’t oppose it since we didn’t start the damn war…I DEFINITELY have an issue with everything we did in the aftermath, however, setting off all of the dangerous brinksmanship that led up to the present day…with all of the horrors of our current regime, one that I guess it’s not hard to overlook is the abrogation of all of our treaties (with this definitely in mind), which often happens under Republican administrations, one of the many reasons why they should NEVER be given power, executive, legislative, judicial…you name it…there are a couple of quick “F” blasts in this tune, just so you know.

Wednesday Stuff

The photo in this post is of students from a high school in North Paulding High School in Dallas, GA which recently reopened as you can see. As you can also see, you can count the number of masked students on one hand and probably have fingers left over (with no social distancing either).

Am I blaming the kids? No, particularly when the cases of COVID-19 will likely tick up and they’ll have to close the school all over again.

Am I blaming the adults for opening the school? I sure as hell am.

Like many of you I’m sure, my parents grew up during the Great Depression and World War II. I know people like Tom Brokaw (who my dad always thought was a fake) have made an industry out of mythologizing those of that era as “The Greatest Generation.” And yeah, I think there’s something to that, though I know there are others of that era who thought they were just doing what they were called on to do and shouldn’t be put on a pedestal (my folks definitely leaned towards the latter category).

I’m mentioning this because I always wondered what would happen if and when MY generation was called upon to face some calamitous event affecting the entire country. Would WE pull together out of a sense of national purpose and make the needed sacrifices? Would WE act in the best interests of future generations (a question already answered when it comes to climate change, unfortunately) as well as other world nations, a community to which we most definitely belong by default?

I think our response to the COVID-19 pandemic gives us the answer, sadly (and the end of this video is a punch in the gut, as it should be...yeah, blame the Gropenfuhrer too, but if President Hillary Clinton had told the whole country to mask up, do you honestly believe people wouldn't have still flipped out at Walmart anyway?)…

…and like you also I’m sure, I’m hearing that Sen. Mr. Elaine Chao may tell the U.S. Senate (including many on this list) to go home later this week with no action on the HEROES Act, so I’m replaying this homemade video – I also saw a poll that has Sen. Grim Reaper leading Amy McGrath by 17 points…if I were McGrath, I would initiate a series of meetings with Charles Booker and find out how to leverage his support with particular policies related to the economy and criminal justice affecting African Americans, and then I would fire everyone on her campaign staff and let Booker’s people run the show…she outspent Booker 2-1 in the primary and still barely won, while his campaign came out of nowhere to challenge her – sounds like one political camp knows what they’re doing and the other doesn’t (and yeah, I’m sure “good ol’ boy” racism/sexism is in play here, but there’s racism and sexism ALL OVER THIS COUNTRY)…

OK people, I know you’re smart because you’re reading this (heh), so I’ll make this as clear as I can. The Repugs don’t have a health care plan. They have NEVER had a health care plan. They NEVER WILL HAVE a health care plan. Anything else they say contrary to that is simply more lies…



…and when it comes to health care, I think Kyle is exactly right – this Biden ad is a punch in the gut aimed right at Mango Mussolini, which is exactly what he deserves; that little virus that is killing so damn many of us and making the rest of us sick is an issue that (if you’ll excuse the expression) “Trumps” everything else (and I don't completely share Kyle's rosy outlook for November - when everything is said and done and counted, then I'll get ready for a victory lap, but not one second before)…



…and in the matter of entitlements that we pay into, I never thought I’d give The Gipper credit for anything, but this clip is spot-on (yeah, I know he once made that stoo-pid recording about “socialized medicine,” but his words are entirely correct here – and to do something about Sen. Mr. Elaine Chao and his lies at long last, click here, included on this list)…



…and I know The Lincoln Project is full of yesterday’s (and probably tomorrow’s) Republicans, but for now they continue to do good work, as is apparent in this clip…

I was glad to see Number 44 bring a little fire to his sendoff for former Dem U.S. congressman and civil rights icon John Lewis, even though those comments were relatively brief when compared with everything else he said – also, former President Obama should wear this as a badge of honor…



…and going from the sublime to the ridiculous, Farron Cousins tells us that Our Orange Pestilence’s re-election campaign may have laundered $170 million through secondary companies that ended up back with the Trump family…typical for a criminal enterprise…



…and I never really know what that bigoted fraud Rick Wiles is talking about anyway, but is he saying “Bama bullets”? Looks like Wiles wants them used against peaceful protestors, which is about what you would expect from a police state that Wiles envisions for everyone but himself basically (Kyle K. explains)…



…and the intolerance of assclowns like Wiles and his band of thoroughly co-opted lunatics towards science has been on hideous display for decades now, and for sure it’s left its imprint on Not Your Father’s Republican Party, as shown in this clip…

Update 8/1/20: The stupidity and entitlement displayed here by Repug Ohio State Rep Candice Keller is absolutely nauseating. She was asked to wear a face covering at the Gettysburg visitor's center and apparently had a meltdown. The visitor's center is a relatively small facility when compared to the rest of the park, which is largely hallowed ground of course with what I believe is the largest collection of outdoor statuary in North America. The fact that that this idiot couldn't even make an accommodation for a smaller location versus the rest of the park...yeah, that about says it, doesn't it? (and believe me, "I've had it with the stupid" too!)

…and I tend to agree with Brian Tyler Cohen about a statute of limitations for lies, and we should start with this Trump clown Peter Navarro…personally (and I know I have a lot of company here), if someone claims to speak for the Gropenfuhrer’s ruinous regime, I automatically assume they’re not telling the truth, as Navarro does here on COVID-19, though of course he can’t resist sticking in that racist slur about the “Chinese virus”…as Cohen reminds us, the issue is that our ruling cabal of liars and criminals COMPLETELY AND TOTALLY FELL DOWN IN THEIR RESPONSE…



…and it looks like “Goober” Gohmert has tested positive also, though of course he blames the mask and had no regard whatsoever for exposing people to the virus (typical)…



…and one of the people Gohmert apparently exposed to the virus was Mango Mussolini’s consigliere Bill Barr; despite what Barr wishes for us, I hope he doesn’t get sick, but it might be karma for him also if he did (and kudos to Pramila Jayapal for “bringing receipts” here)…

There are times when I can’t help but be struck by all the ways Generalissimo Trump tells us right to our faces exactly what he is, despite the fact that there are still way too many damn gullible fools out there who just lap up his insanity, which is getting more people killed by the day; I hope the estates of Al Wilson (who sang the song) and Oscar Brown (a Civil Rights activist who wrote it, ironically enough given Trump’s racism) sue the Gropenfuhrer’s worthless ass...



…and Ana and Emma Vigeland of TYT tell us about the actions by our out-of-control federal (and in some cases, municipal) goons in blue attacking what, for the most part, are peaceful protestors (yep, this stuff is straight out of “V for Vendetta,” in case you haven’t seen the movie)…



…and leave it to the guy responsible for this to just act like, “oh sure, we’re just busting heads of people not doing anything wrong, ho hum – can I get a cheeseburger?”… normally I would say that this is a bit of a leap to think that Barr, for his myriad corruption and faults, is trying to cover up what Mango Mussolini might try to do in November should he lose the popular vote again, but since we’ve been pretty much through the looking glass for the last nearly 4 years, why should ANYTHING be a surprise by now?...

This story from CBS News has to do with the conflicts some teachers are facing with the possibility of returning to the classroom with their students (yeah, FLA isn’t safe for the Repugs to hold their in-person hate fest, but yeah, the kids can get sent back to school instead…uh huh…and I don’t have the medical chops to argue with Dr. Raszka, but call me a skeptic; I would rather deal with certainties than probabilities when it comes to our kids…more here)…



…and speaking of medical matters, this Now This video is a reminder from Stage 4 cancer survivor Laura Packard that the “party of Lincoln” has been trying to gut the ACA for years, and she plainly points out that “Obamacare” saved her life…also, she mentions who is responsible for attacking it, and most of them are on the list you can access from here)…



…and keeping with this theme, I now give you the latest installment of “This Day In Doomsy History” (more or less) from 7/30/10…often I’m behind in these citations, but I wanted to get a little “in front” this time to point out that this Thursday marks the 55th anniversary of signing Medicare into law (here), with a reminder of which political party is responsible, and it sure as hell isn’t the “Trump Party” (here)…



…and given Willard Mitt’s latest attack on entitlements that, as working people, we’ve paid into, including some of us for most of our lives, I think the question Thom Hartmann poses here is spot-on…



…and the only thing Mango Mussolini knows how to do, aside from screwing up, is to bring down the proverbial hammer (echoing what Thom Hartmann just said), but surprise! It isn’t polling as well as Our Orange Pestilence had hoped, as Farron Cousins tells us (briefly NSFW/H at very end)…

I think we’re starting to find out what will happen with the end of the $600-a-week credit for those who are unemployed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, as John I. and Michael Shure tell us here…and as always for the “party of Lincoln,” the cruelty is the point…an extra $100 as opposed to $600? Really? And of course, trying to raid Social Security and Medicare again, as noted here…



…and when it looks like there’s a potential for some help beyond the “pay no price, bear no burden” bunch, you can always count on a Repug to start caterwauling about the deficit and the debt, as Mike Enzi does here, which is particularly cowardly on Enzi’s part since he’s leaving the U.S. Senate and, at this point, is trying to come up with as soft a landing for himself as possible, probably somewhere on K Street (i.e., as a lobbyist)…



…and I’m sure a good part of the world is watching this clip with horror (seriously, what else could we have expected from the Gropenfuhrer?), but other countries are watching this and laughing their asses off at us…after decades of politicizing EVERYTHING into ridiculous left vs. right shouting matches, who seriously thought we’d be able to abandon that idiocy when faced with a genuine catastrophe?...



…and Ana and Cenk of TYT give us their take on the Biden decision to let former Repug Ohio governor John Kasich speak at the DNC…I have to admit that this is a smarter take than I thought, not that I’m surprised by a smart take from Cenk and Ana I wish to emphasize…yeah, the proof will be in terms of other speakers, policies, platform, etc. and how much room there is for actual progressives, and C&A are both dead-on about that – easy to forget Kasich’s own wingnut tendencies, but in an electoral climate like this, when someone even remotely moderate on the other side offers help, you take it, especially from an electorally critical state like Ohio…

Farron Cousins tells us that Mango Mussolini’s attacks on Joe Biden’s mental health aren’t working – yeah, the former VP has slipped a bit for sure, but he’s still got enough on the ball to do the job as far ar as I’m concerned, and he isn’t a narcissistic sociopath like the current occupant of An Oval Office…



…and I suppose the best way I can pay tribute to the late, great Michael Brooks is by continuing to shine light on the causes for which he advocated, and one of them was genuine democratic reform in Brazil…as I’ve said, I’m definitely not an expert in Brazilian politics, but I DO know, like a lot of others I realize, that our government has been interfering in Latin America on behalf of U.S. business conglomerates for decades, and only a fool would argue otherwise, going back to John Foster Dulles and Allen Dulles staging a coup in Guatemala on behalf of the United Fruit company in 1954 (here) – not hard to connect the dots from the present until now, and as Brooks alluded to, such interference really is a bipartisan political offense…



…and I came across another homemade video about the so-called TRUST Act from Willard Mitt Romney, the latest ridiculously named effort to gut Social Security…yes, it’s bipartisan – Joe Manchin is going along with it because of course he is, and wish Doug Jones wouldn’t, but he’s truly in a political dogfight and he’s got to head off Tuberville and the Repugs every way he can…the mystery to me, though, is Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona, who, as far as I’m concerned, may be the biggest Dem congressional disappointment of them all...to view a list of the contested U.S. Senate races, please click here…

I totally get it that, at times, we get exhausted with what I guess you could call “scandal fatigue” concerning Our Pumpkin Pestilence, but even by his guttural standards (for lack of a better word), I think leaning on the Brits to get a major golf tournament at one of his resorts is pretty despicable, to say nothing of cartoonish, as Rachel Maddow explains (hmmm…wasn’t he impeached by the U.S. House for trying to do the same thing with Ukraine? Hard to keep track with the cesspool of grift and incompetence)…



..and I know there are people, including this bunch, having fun with that five-word test that Mango Mussolini is bragging about (which is used to test dementia…and this orange pustule has the nuclear codes…), but I thought this was a much more spot-on ad, sadly…



…and as I watch this, I have a feeling that I should brush up on the last days of the Weimar Republic (apropos use of The Sainted Ronne R. also, I must say)…



…and this Meidas Touch video is probably a bit repetitive, but still very important IMHO (I’m including it partly because it mentions the Ghislaine Maxwell comment, which some, including Ana Kasparian and Dana Bash, have called a signal to Maxwell meaning that Trump will take care of her if she keeps her mouth shut, which I think is correct given the fact that 45 is basically a mobster anyway and that’s how they seem to operate...I'd like to see comparable ads from the Dems, by the way, saying what they would do if they were returned to power, an outcome we all have to work for this November)…



…and Farron Cousins tells us how our utterly useless corporate media is suddenly in love with the “new tone” of the Gropenfuhrer (pardon me while I retch)…



…and Thom Hartmann tells us about Sen. Mr. Elaine Chao playing games with people’s lives again, among other notes about the monstrous dereliction of legislative duty from the “party of Lincoln,” to say nothing of the insanity in Repug-run states (yep, more reasons for M4A...and to do something about the Senate Majority Leader, click here)…



…and I think it’s safe to say that, at the moment, Dem U.S. House Rep Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is pretty much owning the news cycle for her takedown of Repug U.S. House Rep Ted Yoho and his ridiculous attempt at an apology for his contemptible words and actions – all of this is definitely overdue against Yoho and those of his ilk…Charlie Pierce said on Twitter that this reminded him a bit of Michael Jordan at UNC perfecting his game before he got to the pros, and I thought that was a pretty damn spot-on analogy…whether or not Nancy Pelosi likes it, AOC is becoming the face of the congressional Democratic Party, and maybe the party overall eventually, and if Pelosi had any brains, she would just let it happen and get out of the way…the Dem U.S. House Speaker, by the way, should continue to feel like an utter fool for that “glass of water” remark she made about AOC awhile back…clip is briefly NSFW/H, but for a very good reason…somehow I think it’s going to be a loooong time before Yoho or any of his other Repug playmates engage in an action like this ever again, because they know exactly what will happen if they do…

…and John I. and Adrienne Lawrence of The Damage Report tell us about those insulting remarks from Repug FL U.S. House Rep Ted Yoho directed at AOC (as note here, Yoho, by the way, voted against the Emmett Till anti-lynching bill)…also, Yoho’s same-party playmate, U.S. House Rep Roger Williams of Texas, was apparently in on the “fun” also – Yoho’s seat looks pretty safe, unfortunately…I couldn’t find anyone running against him (what the hell is wrong with the people in FLA who support this clown?), and I don’t know about Williams either, but he has an opponent in this year’s election named Julie Oliver – to help her, click here…



Update: So Yoho “apologizes” if some people misunderstood him, or whatever (here)? God, what a WATB! Man up and apologize the RIGHT way, you scumbag!

…and the only very minor criticism I have of this clip is that it doesn’t show Navy veteran Christopher David giving the finger to the jackbooted thugs who attacked him in Portland, which he had every right to do as far as I’m concerned…

…and I heard about the 15-year-old in Michigan referred to as “Grace” who has been incarcerated since May, and like many other people I suppose, I felt absolutely enraged…yes, she did wrong with the two prior assaults, but keeping her locked up all this time, especially when she has expressed remorse, is an abomination – I read somewhere that there’s some kind of ADHD going on with her, though I’m definitely not a clinician and I can’t speak to that with authority…and I have a question for this lunatic judge; OK, if she’s not in jail for missing a homework assignment (considered to be a parole violation) and she’s said she misses her mom and she’s learned what her mistakes were apparently, WHY THE HELL IS SHE BEING DETAINED??!! (I should note that we had the “Kids for Cash” scandal in our beloved commonwealth previously, and though that apparently isn’t going on here, I recall a video about how traumatic it was for kids of this age to be essentially behind bars – I honestly don’t know how much of this is racial versus this judge simply being out of her mind)…

And I agree with Pakman’s take that the book, by itself, really isn’t going to change anything ideologically one way or the other (though apparently it’s selling like nuts – wish she’d written it BEFORE the election, but we are where we are)…

…and the tributes to Michael Brooks have quite rightly been pouring in, you might say, and I thought this one by Kyle Kulinski was pretty heartfelt and spot-on, to say nothing of concise – I know they all passed for different reasons, but God, we’ve lost Terry Jones, John Prine and now Brooks this year (I think the common denominator between the three is that they all were passionate and incisive in their commentary and observations about the world, and with a touch of humor too of course… why do I have a feeling that the first person to greet Brooks in the afterlife was John Lewis? Also, I know there's a pic out there of Brooks with Lula of Brazil, and some took the opportunity to criticize the former leader of that country, and here is my response; yes, I'm definitely not an expert in Brazilian politics, but given that they're now dealing with Bolsonaro, you cannot possibly be serious)...

Update: At first, I thought this was a really horrible bad joke, but it definitely isn’t a joke even though it’s still horrible. …and yeah, on the one hand, the Lincoln Project is full of people who carried water, you might say, for the individuals who represented the intolerance John Lewis protested against (The Sainted Ronnie R, Dubya, etc.), but on the other hand, this ad is really well done, and credit where it’s due…

Here’s something I’m not sure that I’ve ever done, and that is to lead in with a CNN video featuring Erin Burnett, and she pretty thoroughly explains the idiocy of Generalissimo Trump’s attacks on Dr. Anthony Fauci, with Dr. Sanjay Gupta and others…



…and Chris Hayes speaks with Dem U.S. Senator Doug Jones of Alabama about a bipartisan bill he’s co-sponsoring to seek additional funding that would allow schools to reopen nationwide…I’m sure there are a lot of good people in Alabama, and I would respectfully ask that they PLEASE re-elect Jones this fall – I know the odds are long because the state traditionally is pretty red, but though I haven’t seen Jones speak too often, whenever I do he makes a lot of sense and he’s doing his job for sure (to help, click here – another strange edit to an MSNBC video that ran for a little bit longer but was clipped for some reason, probably because Jones quite rightly pointed out that #midnightmoscowmitch is sitting on The HEROES Act and I guess The Comcast Network didn’t want anyone to know that)…
