Friday Stuff

Emma Vigeland of The Majority Report brings us the tale of guv Ron #DeathSantis (allegedly) engaging in Medicaid fraud, steering about $10 mil in funds to the Hope Florida Foundation, a charity overseen by DeSantis’s wife, and those funds apparently were part of a legal settlement owed to residents of that state overbilled for medications by the health care company Centene (more here)...report also notes the Medicaid fraud that Lex Luthor Scott’s old company engaged in and the $1.7 billion settlement that came out of that...and it figures that this Hope Florida Foundation would run ads against a cannabis legalization bill (when Dems engage in this sort of stuff, lemme know, OK? And yeah, none of the push-back in that news report from #DeathSantis’s clown car of an administration explained a damn thing)...

...and heading up north, Brian Tyler Cohen and Glenn Kirschner give us “The Legal Breakdown,” with U.S. District Judge Paula Xinis pretty much teeing off on the Trumpers, though she gave them another week to answer her questions about the deportation of Kilmar Abrego Garcia...and maybe Our Treasonous Orange Pustule feels like he’s invincible on this deportation garbage for now, but I can assure you the DOJ lawyers don’t feel that way after hearing something like this from a federal court judge (as Kirschner says, some of them may feel that Dear Leader is giving them cover for now, but that absolutely will disappear sooner than later and people doing the bidding of our corrupt federal regime may definitely face disbarment)...

...and Brittany Page tells us that the “party of Lincoln” is basically doubling and tripling down on the racism by encouraging white women to have babies...yeah, try creating an economy that works for the majority of this country instead of the one percent as well as funding early childhood health care, public schools, Head Start, y’know...stuff that actually matters that Page points out as opposed to glorifying Nazi themes and talking points (as is the case with this Collins couple, and if you don’t want to take my word for it, fine...believe the National Holocaust Memorial web site)...and menstrual cycle classes? Putting aside the sickening barbarity of something like that, I can assure you that I don’t want a penny of my tax dollars used for something so grotesque (and as Page says, $5K barely covers a two or three-day cost for a hospital room to recover in after delivery, to say nothing of administering medications either for delivery or postpartum recovery...and yeah, so much of this ties back to the “great replacement theory” BS and is basically right out of the white supremacist playbook)...

...and Lawrence O’Donnell gave us this clip earlier this week about #47 backing down again, this time on the idea of sacking Fed chair Jerome Powell, which #47 can’t legally do as O’Donnell points out...of course, Mango Mussolini could boot “I’ll Drink To That” Hegseth, but fat chance on that I know...report also notes the job losses taking place because of Our Ochre Abomination’s demented tariffs...O’Donnell also points out the fact that King Elmo’s DOGE madness has absolutely crippled the Tesla brand among the company’s core customers (and speaking of “backing down,” Cantaloupe Capone can lie and try to put lipstick on the metaphorical pig as much as he wants, but that also happened here with Xi as noted here...here also)...

...and Tennessee Brando tells us about the four Dem U.S. House members who traveled to El Salvador to find out what’s going on with Kilmar Abrego Garcia (and Brando is sure spot-on about what this case really means)...for proof of that (as if we needed it), I should note that there were plenty of signs at the 4/19 rallies across the country calling for justice for Abrego Garcia, and I have a feeling that that signage cut across political lines...and boy is Brando ever right when he basically says that every wingnut accusation is really a confession...”how do you want to be remembered when this is all said and done” indeed...

...and RIP Roy Thomas Baker, who produced a hell of a lot of recordings besides “Bohemian Rhapsody,” though that’s a real plumb to have on his resume I’ll admit...among his voluminous other productions, you can add the debut album from The Cars, including these two numbers.
