I give you the latest installment of FAIR TV (yep, our corporate media “debate” seems to be between the pro-bomb-ISIS forces and the really-pro-bomb-ISIS forces, which I would be OK with if it achieves the desired effect and doesn’t kill innocent civilians, which always happens in war of course…and yeah, what a supposedly courageous interview with Bill Cosby over the rape allegations)…
…and gosh, whaddaya know – BENGHAZI!! wasn’t really a scandal after all…color me shocked! (and God knows how many taxpayer dollars were wasted on this fiasco)...
…and yeah, even though the day to consume all that el Tryptophan (you can Google it) is but a few days away, leave it to John Oliver to offer some words on Thanksgiving here…
..and yeah, I think this musical response is appropriate (to this); my guess is that Darren Wilson is on his way to get lost someplace with a stupid amount of money, made to go away by the Ferguson PD – based on how the statute is written (to say nothing of the grand jury), Wilson may be unindictable, but he sure as hell isn't innocent.
Update 11/25/14: Now with extra irony (here)...

God, I hope Lawrence O’Donnell is right, though we still have to make that happen in two years (and yeah, it’s amazing that this basically came from a conservative strategist)…
…and gee, I wonder what kind of “follow-up” there will be to this? Do you really need to ask? Lather, rinse, repeat (sigh – love to be wrong - Hangin' Judge JR is such a prince for authoring all this garbage via those awful Supreme Court rulings in "Citizens United" and "McCutcheon")…
…and I give you another example of Repug hypocrisy, Part The Infinity, as Charles Pierce would say (here...and yep, definitely not a shining moment for Mary Landrieu)…
...and yeah, I think it's time for a recent tune as opposed to what you might call a "moldy oldie."

So it looks like lame duck U.S. Senator Crazy Tom Coburn is predicting "violence and anarchy" here over an upcoming immigration order from Number 44, something Republican presidents did with no pushback, as noted here, huh? Looks like it's time for this .gif again, I guess (if Coburn can invoke violent imagery, then I can too)...
...and K.O. once had the following to say about Coburn...
…and flash forward back to now, only this time with Billo taking top “honors” (here)…
...and speaking of immigration, it sounds like a few wingnut heads are getting ready to explode on the issue (here) – guess it's acceptable for The Sainted Ronnie R, but not that Kenyan Muslim Socialist (not going to try and fact check The Gipper here – probably would be interesting, though)...
...and RIP film director Mike Nichols (from this movie, for all you non-boomers out there)...
..and before he became a legendary filmmaker, he was part of a legendary comedy duo also...
...and the whole immigration issue puts me in a mind to hear this song again.

Rachel Maddow tells us more about the breeding ground for bad government, as The Eternal Molly Ivins has referred to “the land of the yellow rose” (amazing that, with all of the Dupont/Laporte plant's infractions, they were somehow off the proverbial radar from other Do-Gooder groups; I realize folks like the Sierra Club can only be so many places at once, though)...
..and I give you another “triumph” of our corporate media...that is, most of the consumers of news in this country don't understand the issues, including Keystone XL (here); fortunately, Sen. Bernie Sanders is here to speak truth to stoo-pid...
...and it looks like Chuck and Dave are up to more no good based on this; this video from Robert Greenwald tells a similar story (lots of code language - kind of creepy to see the parallels to the 70s and before...)...
...and RIP Jimmy Ruffin.

…and speaking of the election, how in God’s name did Alison Lundergan Grimes manage to not take advantage of THIS (NSFW)?...
…I mean, you know Jon Stewart would have, right? (here - great line aimed at Romney at about 7:00, by the way)…
…and yesterday marked what would have been the 70th birthday of Gene Clark of The Byrds, a guy who probably should have ended up being at least as famous as his other more celebrated band mates (Roger McGuinn, Gram Parsons, Chris Hillman and, of course, David Crosby), but whose life and career was cut short primarily by alcohol – here is one of the band’s signature tunes, which was hugely controversial way back when (almost charming in its naiveté given what is routinely considered part of “pop culture” now).

Thursday Stuff (update)
For a change of pace, mainly because recent political events are so putrid for the most part, I thought I'd present this Alex Wagner interview with Dick Cavett – you can Google him (sad that there's apparently no place for Cavett or someone like him on network TV anymore)...
...though I suppose Stephen Colbert is cut somewhat from the same cloth, as they say (here)...
...and this report by Rachel Maddow is stunning as far as I'm concerned; as anyone who knows anything about this site whatsoever has figured out, I routinely take what I consider to be well-deserved shots at the Repug Party...but at least THEY know who constitutes their base.
As for the band of well-compensated Beltway losers who don't know a thing, apparently, about what truly constitutes the base of Team “D” (based partly on this), it looks like they're absolutely refusing once again to present themselves as an alternative, to say nothing of defining enough of the voters they need and recruiting/promoting someone to speak to those voters (yeah, it's nice that Mikey the Beloved is being true to his word and apparently his PA-08 seat is going to open up, but that won't mean a thing unless we figure out which voters we need to target, field a candidate to speak to those voters on the issues they care about, and then get those voters to show up on election day)...
...and I heard this on the way home tonight, and this to me goes out to the national Democratic Party organization – they got rolled last week because they didn't show any backbone first and foremost...don't piss all over the base and tell us that it's raining (team R must be laughing their asses off).
Update 11/14/14: This is a wholly other tangent I guess, but I think it ties into the theme of cluelessness on the party of Democrats (at least the national organization and some in the media, including the otherwise respectable Joy Reid).
Remember the business earlier this year in Mississippi, where incumbent Republican Senator Thad Cochran was challenged in a primary by Teahadist Chris McDaniel? And remember how some Democrats said, “Oh, gee, we have to support Cochran because McDaniel is just too crazy?” And filthy, unkempt liberal blogger types such as yours truly said, “Hey, wait a minute! Why the hell are we defending Cochran when supporting McDaniel in the general election would help the Democrat, Travis Childers? Why aren’t we thinking about this in solely political terms like the Repugs do?” And the response from people like Reid on “Real Time With Bill Maher” was, well, there just aren’t enough Democrats in Mississippi, and we should be forced to settle for the least bad Republican?
So now, we have Cochran getting ready to settle in comfortably with the incoming Repug Senate majority next year, and McDaniel is still carrying on like the nut that he is (and does anyone seriously think that Cochran is going to give a fig about doing anything to help Democratic voters who “crossed over” to help him)?
Here is my question: does anyone seriously think that McDaniel would have been any worse than what we’re going to be looking at next year, including Joni Ernst, Tom Cotton and Cory Gardner in the Senate, and life forms like Glenn Grothman of Wisconsin in the U.S. House?
We don’t need to do more to utterly deflate our own base, people! We need to do a much better job of standing up for what we believe in and presenting ourselves as a serious, sane alternative to anyone who would still consider voting for our party in the immediate and longer-term future.

I was honestly wondering if anyone would take on ESPN for what they’ve done to the cult of sports celebrity (though I don’t recall the athletes complaining about it, of course), but kudos to Daniel Tosh for doing so here (NSFW); even the legendary K.O. himself has now been reduced to commenting on episodes of flatulence involving Cliff Lee of the Phillies (yep, I’ve done stuff I didn’t want to do to pay the bills too…sometimes I still do)…

…and by the way, as you stew over what Cenk says here (NSFW), read this to find out the following towards the end…"I could argue that we're much safer without Saddam," he added. "And I would argue that the people of Iraq have a better shot at living in a peaceful -- a peaceful state."Former Commander Codpiece is wrong as usual, bringing to mind this tune once more.
A "hypothetical" where Iraqis have "a better shot" at peace is a far cry from democratic nation-building, given recent developments -- the rise of the Islamic State, for one -- that have yet to give way to stability.
But Bush argued that his successor was to blame, because the U.S. failed to maintain a troop presence in the country. He noted that "in 2009 and 2010, the violence in Iraq was settling down. And the democracy, even though it was not perfect -- kind of like ours was initially not perfect -- was beginning to work."

Jon Stewart tells us what happened last Tuesday, as if we don’t already know somehow (here)…
…and yeah, let’s find out what the Repugs’ idea of “no conflict” is, huh – maybe the same “no conflict” sought by the kicking guy in this .gif?
(P.S. – One of the first things incoming Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said had to do with Obama opposing immigration legislation from this bunch, telling all to hear that it would be waving a red flag in front of a bull, or something. If Sen. Mr. Elaine Chao wants to traffic in violent imagery, then I can too.)
...and Sam Seder gives us his take here - nice to hear an intelligent point of view (and no surprise that Tweety showed his true colors)...
...and just to remind us that there is still actual news out there to be reported aside from the political stuff (and yeah, I wish "nuclear missteps" wasn't a "thing" either)...
..and this song describes what I think of the entire incoming congressional majority.

Wednesday Stuff
God damn, do I hate midterm elections!
So far, I think this post from Susie Madrak at Crooks and Liars comes closest to describing what happened last night. Basically, the geriatric individuals who drive their cars a couple of times a week and who watch Fix Noise and take it seriously day in and day out (many of whom go to church every Sunday) gathered en masse at the polls and – surprise, surprise! – voted for Republicans. And while our side had a bit of a GOTV effort that was better than our typical effort in other midterm elections, it wasn’t nearly enough.
So yeah, team “R” got everyone good and scared that hordes of illegal immigrants recruited by ISIS and carrying Ebola germs were going to crash our border with Mexico and come and infect us in our beds while we slept. And yeah, it looks like that worked – I know, in the Senate, the Repugs cleared the six-Senator hurdle with room to spare (I’ll get more final numbers later…and the odds are heavily stacked against Mary Landrieu in next month’s runoff in Louisiana…just keeps getting better and better for them).
Republicans proved again last night that they know better than anyone else how to push the figurative buttons of the American voter, most of who are low-information (on this subject anyway) individuals who don’t focus on this stuff until the election is nearly upon them and then make up their minds from the torrent of attack political ads on TV first and foremost (does it need to be pointed out again based on this how much “dark money” corrupts our politics?), as well as talk radio of course. We Dems just don’t have an answer for that, and, except for changing demographics in this country, I don’t expect that we ever will.
Oh, and as long as I’m speaking about getting people all in a lather over ISIS and Ebola (and, just to emphasize, you probably are more likely to get struck by two bolts of lightning in your lifetime than to catch Ebola), allow me to say a word or two about this guy, the new Senator from Arkansas, Tom Cotton. I can’t think of anything good to say about the other miscreants in his party now elected to “the world’s greatest deliberative body,” but Cotton represents a unique brand of awful. Many on team “D” are particularly concerned about Joni Ernst (any Iowans out there who may be reading this must be so proud), but rest assured that Cotton is going to make Ted Cruz look like Patrick Moynihan (think Louie Gohmert with more snarl).
And I know this is a sensitive topic, but I have to say it…race was a factor, as Mary Landrieu pointed out. I don’t think it was a primary factor, but it was a factor. Hmm, the Dems get their collective clocks cleaned in the South in particular, and Dem candidates tell Obama to stay away. Coincidence? How often did Mitch McConnell say he was running against Obama instead of Alison Lundergan Grimes?
(Oh, and nice work, Kentucky in particular. Speaking of Sen. Mr. Elaine Chao, everyone knew he was a thoroughly compromised partisan hack, but at least, for a while, he actually delivered the jobs. Now he doesn’t even do that. And you sent him back to Washington anyway. And Kansas also had an opportunity to boot that eternal waste of space known as Pat Roberts, but blew the chance. Hell, they even re-elected Sam Brownback, who crashed the economy! Stupid…)
Also (and speaking of Number 44), I don’t EVER want to hear of a Democrat running away from a Democratic president when he or she is running for federal office. That strategy NEVER works. Like it or not, a Democratic president (and hopefully we’ll see another one shortly) is the head of your political party. Chopping off the metaphorical head is the first step in the strategy of defeat (Mikey the Beloved campaigned with Dubya in ’06 even knowing how unpopular Former President Highest Disapproval Rating In Gallup Poll History truly was, and though Fitzpatrick lost PA-08 barely that year…at least as the district was drawn back then…he still managed to take Bucks County…of course, he won last night, with the help of the Courier Times running full-page ads for him from October 20th every day until the election).
And on the subject of Dems running away from a Dem president…gee, I wonder if Al Gore would have gotten just enough of a bump if he’d campaigned with Bill Clinton in Florida in 2000? We’ll never know, just like we’ll never know if Clay Aiken would have made a respectable U.S. House representative (as Bill Maher pointed out, Aiken also ran away from Obama).
Also, I want to say something else about whatever the alleged Democratic “strategy” was for this election cycle. Last night illustrated the Grand Canyon-sized chasm between the “foot soldiers” who work the phone banks, put up the campaign signs, write to the newspapers, and otherwise do their best to mobilize as many Dem voters as possible (and yes, the bloggers), all of whom were once derided as “fire baggers” by Obama insiders, and the so-called Beltway political establishment that has done virtually nothing except lose congressional elections since abandoning Dr. Dean’s 50-state strategy (and yes, this also includes Number 44 himself).
Punting on immigration reform turned out to be a catastrophic mistake. I know the plan was to protect some red state Dems such as Mark Pryor in Arkansas, but they probably would have lost anyway. Now, we have also lost Mark Udall in Colorado (which is particularly inexplicable to me, because if anyone thinks Cory Gardner is going to care about this issue, then they are truly on a Rocky Mountain High). Immigration reform is more of a bipartisan issue than our thoroughly co-opted Beltway courtier media would have us believe (the typical “horserace” preoccupation of this bunch, while not the least bit surprising, will have to be a topic for another day...rest assured that they will suddenly discover how evil the filibuster is again, and the phrase "60 votes needed for passage" will go the way of 78 rpm records).
Another thing…while, to me, there is still NEVER AN EXCUSE FOR NOT VOTING, Team “D” has to do a much better job of articulating a reason to vote for them. If you support legislation to train and hire younger prospective workers and the other side doesn’t (for example, when was the last time you heard a word from the Obama Administration about the American Jobs Act that Boehner and his pals are sitting on in the U.S. House?), then MAKE THAT CASE TO THE VOTERS! It’s nice to talk about consecutive months of job gains, but if the devil is in the proverbial details, then communicate to the voters that you know that and you’re trying to fix it, as well as communicating the fact that the other side knows but could care less (we need look no further than Al Franken’s re-election in Minnesota to see how that kind of a strategy played out).
And while I’m on the subject of the so-called Democratic campaign geniuses of the Beltway, I want to say unequivocally that I never want to see another campaign-related Email from Debbie Wasserman Schultz of the DCCC again! Actually, the Emails from just about everyone were pretty repellent day in and day out, including Number 44 himself, Biden, the Democratic Governors Association (also, nice work from that bunch – it was awesome to send Tom Corbett packing, but that was it), and a whole bunch of others who pretty much turned into background noise (and believe it or not, I’ve even been “hit up” like this for the Hillary Clinton campaign for 2016). STOP IT!!!!! AND YES, I HAVE CLICKED "UNSUBSCRIBE" NUMEROUS TIMES!! (I give Kevin Strouse, Steve Santarsiero and Steve Cickay a pass because they were local candidates; only Steve S. won from that bunch, by the way - however, I think Kevin Strouse deserves credit for putting up a good fight, and if he feels like taking another shot at this in 2016, I'm with him).
Oh, and by the way, the numbers don't lie (re, younger versus older voters in elections - hat tip to Richard Mayhew at Balloon Juice for this, along with Susie Madrak).
All of that being said, this clip goes out to all of those who totally hosed the U.S. Senate last night by either voting for more gridlock or not even bothering to vote at all (particularly Kentucky and Kansas, coming from someone who speaks their language...probably NSFW - at least Jeanne Shaheen also survived, which means that "Wall Street Scott" Brown will have to take his carpetbagger act somewhere else)…
...and I give you the latest from FAIR TV...
...and I thought this was a funny bit also from John Oliver about Lowe's supposedly using robots (yep, I guess the holiday mania will be here soon - ugh) - we could use a laugh...
...because...
Update 1 11/6/14: Uh, yep - this defines clueless as far as I'm concerned.
Update 2 11/6/14: Oh, and by the way, U.S. Senate Repugs – do this now. Go ahead and drag it out for the entire two-year term, just like Bill Maher said. It will be the fastest way to hasten your defeat in 2016.
Update 3 11/6/14: Sure, there’s some partisan GOP spin in this piece, but I wish the “D” team would take this and memorize just about all of it (re., how absolutely NOT to campaign for Congress – as usual, the other side, in their hubris and arrogance, can’t resist inadvertently giving us a way to beat them).
Update 11/7/14: Uh huh.

Monday Stuff
(For a final time, I posted about the U.S. Senate races here and the U.S. House races here.)
In case anyone had any doubt where the Repugs stood on the issue of voter participation, I give you one of their founding fathers, Paul Weyrich, speaking to a bunch of fellow travelers in 1980...
…and it’s time to turn to The Stupidest Life Form In The Universe for a bit of comic relief, though the attack on Wendy Davis is a typically untrue bit of slime (what a shame there are no grown-ups in that party to tell Gohmert to STFU)…
..and leave it to John Oliver to provide incisive political commentary that's also funny as hell here (borderline NSFW - the last 4:00 of this in particular are prime)...
...and former Clinton Labor Secretary Robert Reich reminds us once more of what's at stake tomorrow (I know John Oliver downgraded the importance of the federal elections a bit, but he didn't say that they weren't important too)...
..and this is probably the first video I ever saw of Kevin Strouse, and I think it's the best, and I'd like to present it as the final one before tomorrow's crucial election – if you can help tomorrow, click here (and for PA-31 folk in Bucks County, vote for Steve Santarsiero tomorrow for state rep and Steve Cickay for state senator in district 10)...
...and here's the last time for this little number this year also - tomorrow is the day to "leave it all in the road," people.

...and in keeping with the “one percent” theme, I give you this (and to help Kevin Strouse, click here)...
...and this song describes Joni Ernst, Bill Cassidy, and David Perdue, among others, and for anyone who may be reading this from Iowa, Louisiana and Georgia, I have a question: do you honestly think those three, or really any Republican any more in this congress, is going to give a damn about you?

Chris Hayes talks to two of the OK Go guys after their latest neat new video (not really related to the usual stuff, but I thought it was a nice change of pace – I see they've progressed way beyond treadmills)...
...and horrors! Mary Landrieu actually told the truth here; funny that there was no right-wing pearl clutching over the remarks of Ron Natinsky here...
….and to help Kevin Strouse in the final days of the campaign, please click here...
...and happy upcoming 70th birthday to Keith Emerson.

Why do I have a feeling that Mrs. Graham and Ben Bradlee are doing somersaults in their graves at this moment? Lawrence O’Donnell explains...
…and here’s more on the Repugs and their “jobs, jobs, jobs” agenda (and are Joni Ernst and Cory Gardner weasels or aren’t they – of course, we already knew about Hosni Mubarak Walker)…
…and our corporate media strikes again – what a joke (NSFW – and Ana Kasparian makes a great point at about 3:50)…
…and just because we have all the election stuff going on, that doesn’t mean that we should forget about the issues that truly matter (here - more fine work by Brave New Films)…
...and hey, why not have a little Halloween fun (depends on your definition of "fun," I guess)...
...and of course, this day also proves that you never need much of an excuse for "prog" rock, including this number.

At first, I have to say that I actually thought James Keady was being a bit of a jerk at Governor Bully's press conference – definitely not a fan of Christie, but that's no excuse for rudeness...however, listen to Keady's interview with Chris Hayes to find out who is really being rude (I would argue incompetent, actually - here)...
...and oh yeah, it's time to beat up President Hopey Changey over high gas prices again – oh, wait (reminds me of the title of one of J.D. Mullane's more ridiculous blog posts, after Number 44 authorized the raid that killed bin Laden...”bin Laden Dead, Gas $4 a Gallon”...and while we're on the subject...)...
...and there are only a few days left for me to get in some more shots at "Wall Street Scott" Brown (and to help Jeanne Shaheen, click here)...
...and I'm sure the title of this tune will be a popular phrase among Trick-or-Treaters tomorrow.

OK, I was able to get this video from The Rachel Maddow show about former Gen. Irv Halter, a Dem running against incumbent Colorado Repug U.S. House Rep Doug Lamborn – didn’t realize just how bad Lamborn was until I watched this…
…and while I don’t really have a “dog” in the “hunt” for any of the U.S. Senate contests, as you might say, I’d like to do what I can to stick it to “Wall Street Scott” Brown however I can (in response, to help incumbent Dem Senator Jeanne Shaheen, click here)…
…and I would call this a rockin’ good time with a purpose…
…and I only have a day or so left to add this video, so I’d better do it now.

John Oliver brings us what I think is the perspective we need on the whole Ebola thing (here)...
…and seaking of Ebola, I thought this was a great commentary by Rev. Al about Dr. Craig Spencer and Nurse Kaci Hickox, who have put their own lives on the line to fight the Ebola scourge in Africa, as opposed to politicians in this country like “Governor Bully” and his pal Andrew Cuomo of New York who imagine themselves to be medical professionals, but who are merely politicians instead…
...and as long as we're on the subject of science, today would be the 100th birthday of Dr. Jonas Salk - his importance is noted in the following video...
…and oh noes, it looks like our own PA Guv Tom “Space Cadet” Corbett “photo shopped’ an African American lady onto his campaign web site, someone from a place where you can download generic clip art (apparently Mikey the Beloved did the same thing with an image of a wheelchair in an ad on behalf of our veterans…if I watched more TV, I guess I’d know more about that for real; to help return Corbett to private life, click here)...
...and speaking of our wet noodle PA-08 U.S. House rep, while it's nice that Mikey got that guy freed from a Central American jail or whatever, how about if Fitzpatrick gave something approximating that degree of attention to the rest of his constituents, which is lacking in the following clip (and to do something about it in the final days, click here - oh, and his PR apparatus, otherwise known as the Bucks County Courier Times, has revved up, running front-page banner and full page ads for him in the first section every day since Monday October 20th)...
...all of which makes me want to hear this one more time (and with this in mind also).

Since MSNBC's web site apparently no longer allows embedding of videos from The Rachel Maddow Show, I guess this is the only way we'll be able to access their great content, including this (about the latest lies from the Roger Ailes BS Factory)...

..and here is some typically spot-on, NSFW commentary from Bill Maher about the Kansas gubernatorial contest (and, really, about voters pretty much all over this country, unfortunately)...
...and RIP Jack Bruce - made me recall this post that I'm proud of, to be honest (wish I had the time and resources to do more like it - sigh...this tune is perhaps the most emblematic of Bruce's collaborations with lyricist Pete Brown; have to admit that, of the three, I thought Ginger Baker would go first).

…and it looks like it’s time for another blogger ethics panel, as Atrios might say (for a reason why this is particularly awful, check out the pix from here...BP was "Dregs of the Year" for 2010)…

#37, Steve Southerland (FL-02)
(This is part of my 2014 U.S. House voting guide.)
Update 11/6/14: Not much to cheer about from Tuesday on the "D" side, but nice work here.
As noted above, Southerland is opposed in the 2014 election by Dem Gwen Graham - to help her, click here. Here, Southerland tells us that he hates his job, apparently (all the more reason to return him to private life). Here, he came up with an amendment to a bill requiring SNAP recipients to work 20 hours a week at a minimum or have their benefits cut off (nice guy). He organized a “men only” fundraiser along with Governor Bully and Lex Luthor Scott here (nice – Southerland is defending his seat in a contest against Dem Gwen Graham, daughter of former Senator and Governor Bob Graham), He helped to vote down a measure here that would have discouraged the government from giving contracts to companies that have committed wage theft. He “pink-washed” his sexist campaign and votes here (what a guy). And let's not forget that, like just about everyone else in his party in the U.S. House (including Mikey the Beloved), Southerland voted to extend the government shut down here.
Update 11/6/14: Not much to cheer about from Tuesday on the "D" side, but nice work here.
#34, Michael Grimm (NY-11)
(This is for my 2014 U.S. House voting guide.)
Grimm is opposed in the 2014 election cycle by Dem Domenic M. Recchia Jr. - to help the Dem challenger, click here. Here, Grimm was indicted on 20 counts, including fraud and perjury (sweet). He threatened to throw a reporter off a balcony inside the Capitol building (here and here). He sponsored something called the Whistleblower Improvement Act here, which, actually, would force whistleblowers to talk to their employers first (yeah, some “improvement” that is). As noted here, some of his campaign contributors are in the porn business (funny). Here, he said that his campaign office had been vandalized, though police couldn’t find any destruction to the computer equipment that Grimm claimed took place; oh, and he equated the vandalism of his campaign headquarters with the Gabby Giffords shooting (jackass).
#28, Mike Coffman (CO-06)
(This is for my 2014 U.S. House voting guide.)
Coffman is opposed in the 2014 election cycle by Dem Andrew Romanoff - to help Romanoff, click here. Here, Coffman thinks a 15-year wait, among other obstacles, constitutes an “automatic path” to citizenship. He said immigration bills “cleared the house” here (uh, no). He once sponsored a bill allowing DREAMers who served in the military to gain citizenship but is now walking that back, of course (and he was confronted about that here). Coffman said that President Obama “in his heart” was "not an American" here (nice - I realize that he's pretty much just parroting Repug orthodoxy on that subject, though). He wanted to raise the eligibility for Social Security to age 70, which is tantamount to a cut (here).
#26, Mo Brooks (SC-05)
(This is for my 2014 U.S. House voting guide.)
For the 2014 election cycle, Brooks is opposed by Independent Mark Bray - to help Bray, click here. Here, Brooks said he wants to deport all 8 million undocumented workers (uh huh). Here, he said Obama divides us on “race, greed, sex and envy” (huh?) – gee, “project” much, Congressman? Oh, and I guess that's part of the Democrats’ “war on whites,” or something (here). Here, he said in July ’11 that our credit rating would be improved by not raising the debt ceiling (uh, that’s not what happened). Here, he said he thinks that our ol’ buddy Vlad Putin is trying to keep us way from the space station, or something, all evidence to the contrary notwithstanding.
#11, Trey Gowdy (SC-04)
(This is for my 2014 U.S. House voting guide.)
For the 2014 election cycle, Gowdy is defending his seat against Libertarian Curtis E. McLaughlin - to help McLaughlin, click here.I guess it’s inevitable that I point this out (though Gowdy gets accidental honesty points here). And let’s not forget how Gowdy and company are using BENGHAZI!!! to raise money, despite their faux protestations to the contrary (here). And lest anyone wonder about whether or not they’ll be beating this proverbial dead horse for 2016, I give you this (here). Also, Gowdy is apparently known for theatrics, as noted here (perfect for the Repugs).
#9, Martha Roby (AL-02)
(This is for my 2014 U.S. House voting guide.)
With the departure of “Moon Unit” Bachmann, the Teahadists are looking for a new “lightning rod” to congregate around and practice their faux indignation every chance they get. And had Marsha Blackburn been named to the BENGHAZI!! "cluster" instead of Roby, then she would have solidified her own wingnut bona fides. But she wasn’t.
And Roby brings her own brand of “crazy, to wit…

For the 2014 election cycle, Roby is facing Dem challenger Erick Wright - to help Wright, click here. She didn’t push back against a “birther” calling Obama a “communist despot” here. “Stockholm Syndrome” Roby voted against the Violence Against Women Act here. She introduced bill to eliminate overtime pay here. And as we all know, more gun laws won’t solve the problem (here - removing my tongue from my cheek). Here is more zaniness from Roby (fourth bullet).

Wednesday Stuff
I thought this bit from John Oliver on The Supremes was hilarious and inspired (here)...
...oh, and remember the time Mikey the Beloved accused President Obama of treason, as he did in this clip between 4:16 and 4:20? If you want him to return to private life in a few days, click here...
..and that goes for PA Guv Tom “Space Cadet” Corbett too; the “fun” in this clip starts at about :50 – to make a difference, click here...
...and based on this, I guess Toys R Us won't be selling any Walter White dolls (from “Breaking Bad” for the uninitiated) for the holidays – c'est dommage (made me felt like hearing this song).

#22, Peter Roskam (IL-06)
(This is for my 2014 U.S. House voting guide.)
Roskam is defending his seat against Dem Michael Mason - to help Mason, click here. Here, Roskam basically lied about whether or not he knew former House Speaker Tom DeLay, aka, The Bugman (not a crime I realize, but I think it sends a message). As of 2008, he’s received over $100 grand in oil money and has fought against clean energy, of course (here). Roskam was under investigation for a $750,000 (!) trip to Taiwan in 2011 (also noted here that he failed to report about $103,000 in fundraising expenditures in ’05). Here, Roskam co-introduced a bill to block federal funding of universities “engaging in a boycott of Israeli academic institutions or scholars.” (um, let me see here, where is that dictionary? “Free speech”…what exactly is that definition again?). And yes, Dan Lipinski definitely should know better.

Tuesday Stuff
Alex Wagner tells us about Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg's dissent, joined by Kagan and Sotomayor, on the Supremes' decision to allow Texas's awful voter ID ruling to stand (yep, there goes Hangin' Judge JR "calling balls and strikes" again, huh? And it looks like Alex Wagner got cut off a bit)...
...and Ed Schultz and Sen. Bernie Sanders give us the latest on the Repugs and their efforts to kill the postal service (yep, if they had their way, the “party of Lincoln” would have us pining for the day when all we had to complain about was the price of “forever” stamps)…
...and RIP Ben Bradlee...
...and I had this tune in mind when considering the Ed Schultz piece above.

Monday Stuff
Melissa Harris-Perry gives South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley a lesson on what the Confederate Flag really means (here)…
…and I know I shouldn’t waste time with anything to do with Sean Inanity, but I can’t help it because this Stephen Colbert bit is just way too damn funny (here)…
…and to help out Kevin Strouse in the closing days of the campaign, please click here…
...and happy 64th birthday to Tom Petty.

Friday Stuff
(I also posted here.)
I give you Stephen Colbert on the supposed WMD revelations in Iraq...
…also, this tells us about gun-related threats to Anita Sarkeesian, who backed out of a speech about women and online gaming at Utah State (I don’t know what else to say either, Cenk...more here)…
...and I give you the latest installment of FAIR TV (and by the way, how somebody votes is nobody else's damn business, regardless of your political party)...
...and this is a truly depressing item; not really the way I'd like to wrap up the week, so here is a bit of an upbeat musical response.

Thursday Stuff
I wish Shep Smith would go off-script more often because he makes so much damn sense, as he does here ("Obama" fever, huh? Freudian slip for that bunch, wouldn't you say?)...
…and I cannot believe that we’re still talking about that stupid embargo in the Caribbean, but kudos to Lawrence O’Donnell for doing so…
..and it looks like the mistake of Tennesee's 7th congressional district struck again here...
...and sorry, but this is the only response that I think is appropriate.

Wednesday Stuff
Did you hear the one about the infectious disease outbreak that occurred in the U.S. while we did not have a surgeon general on the job? As Rachel Maddow explains, this, sadly, is no joke…
…and I had a bit of a problem with the very end of this Ebola-related commentary, but otherwise I’m absolutely fine with this TYT (and NSFW) takedown of Keith A-Blow of Fix Noise (yep, that 30 percent just won’t budge, will they?)…
…and I give you another triumph of red state America, in time for the season (and yeah, the bit at the end with the local news reporter is particularly silly)…
…and I’ve been meaning to work this in for a little while now, so here it is (and yeah, if anything I can think of lately deserves an encore, this would qualify).

Tuesday Stuff
Kudos to Melissa Harris-Perry for giving Hosni Mubarak Walker the following dose of reality (here)…
…and nice work by Frankie Goes to the Vatican here – though you knew the inevitable push back would follow; all of which made me recall this evergreen item from Stephen Colbert…
...and I give you the latest installment of FAIR TV (I'm so old that I can remember when Judy Woodruff actually didn't have a problem asking hard-hitting questions, but I guess those days are done – what a pity)...
…and I’m going to save you from wasting your time reading this corporate media garbage and cut right to the proverbial chase instead.
Here is the message: the economy isn’t sunshine, lollipops and rainbows every day. Why? Because Magical Prince Obama in the White House hasn’t made everything all peachy keen, of course.
How could this be? He has such obliging public servants ready to work with him, doesn’t he? And so popular too!
And as we know, Obama has been surpassed on job creation by every other president, hasn’t he?
Oh well, I guess this means that those silly voters will barely show up to the polls in November, ensuring that the Republicans will strengthen their hold on one chamber of Capitol Hill and completely take over the other.
And maybe it will also mean the economy will be better. Or maybe it won’t. Either way, it will all be the fault of those silly voters. And Magical Prince Obama, of course.
And oh, it’s 5:00 – time for the whores of the Beltway media/political/industrial complex to belly up to the bar (make sure to pass the sweet and sour shrimp, along with the plate of nachos).
…
All of this absolutely SCREAMS for us to go out and vote for Democrats in a few weeks, to say nothing of supporting them as our means allow. Yes, our corporate media will keep concocting conservative-friendly nonsense like this regardless, and It’s true that the Dems are definitely not perfect, but do you honestly think any of the issues we face will get better if you don’t?
Which brings me back to this video – I think it’s time to dust this off. I did well with it in ’06, ’08 also, not so much in ’10, and a little better in ’12. Let’s see if it can manage to do the trick again.

Monday Stuff
(I also posted here.)
Joy Reid brings us what I thought was an interesting perspective on Columbus Day (and Dan Snyder continues to be an utter tool)…
…and John Oliver recognizes the holiday as only he can…
…oh, and you know that Ebola stuff that has been in the news lately? You know, the thing that we’ve known about for about oh, say, the last 40 YEARS BUT HAVEN’T COME UP WITH A VACCINE FOR YET BECAUSE OF BUDGET CUTS TO SCIENCE BY REPUBLICAN CONGRESSES??!!...
(Oh, and please spare the whole, “Hey libtard, you Dems were in charge from 2008 to 2010” nonsense. As if anyone could undo a decade of Republican Congressional f*ckups in 2 years…)…
…and once again, what say you on all this, Mikey the Beloved? And once more, cue the sound of crickets (and to do something about that, click here)…
...and while I'm on the subject, please click here to help keep this ad for Kevin Strouse on the air; to help out the campaign in the closing days, please click here (like to see something like this about all of Mikey's votes in favor of the shut down last year)…
...and don't blink, or you'll miss the ending of this one (not bad for an "unofficial" video).

Sunday Stuff
I cannot possibly imagine why anyone who claims to be a Democrat (or even an independent, for that matter) wouldn't realize how important it is to vote in the November election, but in case somehow anyone needed any additional motivation, I think Lawrence O'Donnell provides it here...
..and sticking with O'Donnell, he interviews Dale Ho, director of the ACLU's Voting Rights Project, about the video Ho filmed with Lewis Black (great stuff)...
...and usually I find that Steve Kornacki is a poor substitute for Rachel Maddow, but I think this was a good report on all the latest Ebola stuff (“field hearings” - what a joke)...
...and to me, just about anything that encourages higher voter turnout can't be bad (here).
