Saturday Stuff

Don’t let them take it from us indeed (and I would definitely call this a positive sign)...

...and when it comes to individuals who are trying to do exactly that, aside from the Gropenfuhrer, none are more notorious IMHO than Sen. Mr. Elaine Chao for some of the reasons noted in this clip (to support Amy McGrath, click here...and yeah, I would say this matters too)...

...and Susan Collins is pretty damn high on the list of Repugs who need to be retired from public life once and for all also – to support Collins’s challenger Sara Gideon, click here (and click here to support other Dems running for the U.S. Senate...and Collins sure does keep interesting company, doesn't she?)...

...meanwhile, for examples of U.S. Senators actually doing a good job, I give you this Gary Peters clip from 10/2; Peters of course is running for another term in the U.S. Senate from Michigan – to help, click here (and it looks like Peters’ opponent John James put his foot in it, you might say, here)...

...and to help Jeanne Shaheen, running for another U.S. Senate term representing New Hampshire, please click here...

...and here is Alabama Dem U.S. Senator Doug Jones, running in a perilous race against that quitting stiff Tommy Tuberville, for another term – Jones spoke with Chris Hayes earlier this year about trying to get extra funding for his state so Alabama schools could reopen safely (to help Jones, click here)...

...and to support Christina Finello, running to unseat Bri-Fi in the PA-01 U.S. House contest, please click here (and PA-31 folks should click here to support State Rep Perry Warren)...

...and I guess this is another moody and a bit atmospheric new tune; wonder how many times a day this guy gets told that he looks like Joaquin Phoenix?

Friday Stuff

I know I’m a day or two behind on this, but I can only get to so many Trumpian outrages at a time; Chris Hayes speaks with journalist Jacob Soboroff about the 545 kids we separated from their parents at the border, with the Trump gang now claiming that they can’t track down the parents (typical – more here)...

...and K.O. (who used to hold down the 8 PM EST time slot on MSNBC now occupied by Hayes of course) brings us the latest, including Generalissimo Trump’s dustup with Lesley Stahl of “60 Minutes” and Rudy 9iu11ani’s run-in with Sacha Baron Cohen and his female accomplice (Keith needs to work on this Philly-ese, I must say – good job to give Will Bunch a nod along with Daniel Dale of CNN)...

...and when it comes to our response to the pandemic (which K.O. also noted in the prior clip), Kyle tells us that the NYT reported that the Trump gang told the Hoover Institution in February how bad COVID would be (and good job by Kyle to keep attention on the 650 million mask story that the P.O. was going to send out in March that Trump scuttled...mildly NSFW/H)...

...and Ana and Wosny Lambre of TYT tell us that Susan Collins in Maine, running for another term in the U.S. Senate, has embraced two of these QAnon life forms who are running for office in her state, because of course she has; to support Collins’s Dem challenger Sara Gideon, click here...

...and David Doel tells us here about Pope Francis signaling a sea change in the Catholic Church in the matter of same-sex civil unions...

...and I thought this was a nice clip of Joe Biden highlights from last night’s final presidential debate; again, as far as I’m concerned, the sheer, unmitigated gall of Mango Mussolini to think he is in any way entitled to another term given his colossal, catastrophic bungling of the COVID-19 pandemic, let along the numerous other screwups, makes me want to puke...

...and I know this is the second ad on consecutive days featuring Sam Elliott for Joe Biden, but it’s another good one, so here it is (yes, I know what The Lincoln Project is all about, but I’ll ask yet again...why are these people so good at using video to promote candidates and the Dems overall, with notable exceptions, are so lousy at using videos to communicate their core convictions to voters??!! To be fair, though, the videos from the Biden campaign have been particularly good)...

...and believe it or not, last Tuesday marked what would have been the 70th birthday of Tom Petty.

Thursday Stuff

We can rid ourselves of this monster in 12 days, people (and vote out every single Republican who enabled him too)...

...and speaking of Republican enablers, maybe I should apologize for giving WAY TOO MUCH time to that utterly lying weasel Sen. Mr. Elaine Chao here, but in response to his garbage (presented by Sam Seder), let me just ask the following: whose idea was it to do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING FOR THE VAST MAJORITY OF THE PEOPLE OF THIS COUNTRY when the Dems passed the HEROES Act in MAY??!! And if you don’t like the bill (even though I think it’s less than what is needed at $2 trillion – leave it to the Dems to deliberately shoot too low to start and hurt their bargaining position), then at least introduce it to the floor for debate and a vote INSTEAD OF GOING ON FREAKING VACATION!!! (here and here).

And if #midnightmoscowmitch were actually serious about negotiating in the first place, then try explaining this (more is here).

Hey Kentucky – do you want to end this garbage once and for all? Then click here.

Update: Yeah, let "Grim Reaper" McConnell twist in the wind - just what he deserves (here).

...and I now give you the latest installment of “This Day In Doomsy History” (more or less) from 10/19/11...as noted here, Supreme Court nominee Amy "Coney Island Baby" Barrett indeed has ties to Charles Koch, probably because he envisions that she’ll be part of a SCOTUS that will gut environmental regulation once and for all, and to get a taste of the horrific consequences of Koch’s war on the environment, I give you another great video from Robert Greenwald and Brave New Films...

...and Brian Tyler Cohen tells us about Number 44’s remarks in Philly yesterday – important to support not just Biden but every Democrat running for Congress, particularly the Senate (the list is here...more here)...

...and as a bit of a warmup for tonight's debate (which, again, I won't be watching because I have no intention of every supporting any Republican politician ever again), I give you this great Biden ad; if nothing else, the Biden/Harris team definitely leapfrogged the Clinton/Kaine team 4 years ago by leaps and bounds in that department...

...and RIP Spencer Davis of his self-named group, which had a lot to do with launching the career of Steve Winwood.

Wednesday Stuff

Sam Seder tells us the story of this Dave Piepkorn character in Fargo, North Dakota, the deputy mayor and a city commissioner, who believes that masks don’t stop the spread of COVID-19, which of course happens to fly in the face of all known science (as I and others have said before, if you don’t like a mask, you’re REALLY not going to like a ventilator)...

...meanwhile, for the sane point of view in North Dakota, Chris Hayes speaks with Dr. Joshua Wynne (to me, the biggest takeaway is that the 20-29 age group is getting hardest hit; remember all the wingnuts who told young people they didn’t have anything to worry about from the virus?)...

...and David Pakman tells us how the whole supposedly big New York Post non-story about Hunter Biden is collectively blowing up in the faces, so to speak, of various Repug media operatives and the Trumpers as well...

...and K.O. echoes some of these points in his own commentary (NSFW/H)...

...and returning to the elections, I thought this was a good ad for Christina Finello, running to unseat Bri-Fi in the PA-01 U.S. House contest...

...and anybody remember that Barack Obama guy? You know – a president who, in addition to actually being sane, delivered an endless stream of ABSOLUTELY NO SCANDALS and was respected and admired on the world stage? Well, here he is to endorse Gary Peters, running for another term in the U.S. Senate from Michigan (and to help their fellow Dem Jeanne Shaheen, running for another term in New Hampshire, please click here, and this links to other Dem U.S. Senate candidates)...

...and maybe the incumbent U.S. Senate Dem facing the longest odds is Doug Jones of Alabama - great ad calling out Tommy Tuberville for exactly what he is as far as I'm concerned...

...and returning to our beloved commonwealth, I thought this was well done from The Lincoln Project; yeah, I know that these people are Republican grifters at their core, but they continue to do good work (trying to catch up with some videos in this post in case that wasn't already obvious)...

...and sticking with PA (and focusing on the City of Brotherly Love to be exact), the scene in this clip happened 40 years ago today (more here – the putout prior to Tug McGraw striking out Willie Wilson was the foul popup that popped out of Bob Boone’s glove that was caught by Pete Rose...the Phillies never would have won without Rose, which is the main reason why I hope he is reinstated by MLB one day...and yes, I know the gambling was bad, but others in that sport have done worse as far as I'm concerned)...

...and kudos to Peter Frampton for pusing back against that Dave Piepkorn clown, as noted here - I think Frampton should be rewarded with a tune for it, so here it is.

Monday Stuff

I have to admit that I’ve never heard of a “super precedent,” which, apparently, is what Roe v. Wade IS NOT as viewed by Amy Coney Barrett, based on this Now This clip (yep, Sarah Palin with a better vocabulary, as K.O. tells us...and I'm tired of hearing people who want to overturn Roe saying they're "pro life" - actually, what you are is pro-birth; if you REALLY WERE pro-life, you'd support funding for women, infants and children nutrition programs, early childhood education, along with K-12 funding...usually, though, in the aggregate, that's not what "pro-lifers" are about)...

..and speaking of K.O., he weighs in on Mrs. Blank Notepad here along with what Generalissimo Trump considers to be a “normal life” (yep, more easy marks for Don The Con)...

...and John and Adrienne Lawrence of The Damage Report tell us about more Stupid Voting Tricks, such as that electric cable to machines apparently tabulating voter information that was mysteriously cut on the last day of registration in Virginia...if this were a third-world country, such antics would be the object of ridicule and derision, though I’m sure that’s happening anyway, and rightly so...

...and I don’t know what is stupider about this story – the fact that the Gropenfuhrer is actually spending time campaigning in California with a few weeks to go in this election thinking he can win the state (though I once felt that way in ’16 about PA, I hasten to add, but there are big differences between then and now), or the fact that Mike Love remains a total Trumper a-hole...leave it to Brian Wilson, though, to lend the sane perspective to all of this (puts me in the mind for a Wilson/Beach Boys tune).

(Also, here is my periodic reminder to support Dems running for the U.S. Senate on this list, especially this guy...can't imagine what the f*ck is going on in Michigan, to be honest...as well as Christina Finello running to unseat Bri-Fi in PA-01, as well as Perry Warren for PA state rep.)

Sunday Stuff

OK, I’m back, having endured my brief visit to Pennsyltucky, Adams County to be exact. And on Route 116 heading north to Gettysburg, I saw this utterly ridiculous sign on the lawn of someone who I’m sure was a local Repug poobah (funny it didn’t catch on because it has the alliteration the wingnuts and our corporate media just loves to use against the Dems).

Also, on Route 15 north heading back to the PA Turnpike interchange, I saw a huge ass billboard saying “Had Enough? Vote Republican.”

Umm...we’re in the mess we’re currently in BECAUSE OF REPUBLICANS! It should be noted, though, that the billboard was meant to slam Dem Governor Tom Wolf, who, as far as I’m concerned, has done a heroic job of limiting the hit from COVID-19 in PA, though I have a feeling his work may be undone by the onset of flu season and other nonsense from the “party of Lincoln” in Harrisburg. And also, there were these billboards on a few turnpike locations (and according to the linked story, the individuals behind them are too cowardly to come forward and accept responsibility...and for those who may have forgotten, PA Repug State Sen. Scott Wagner ran against Gov. Wolf in 2018 and basically blew up his campaign when he threatened to stomp Wolf's face with spiked golf cleats as noted here).

Well then, I offer this clip for every Republican in Adams County...

Update 10/24/20: And this makes those signs even more ridiculous.

...and as Kyle K. tells us, Mango Mussolini has pretty much lost suburban women voters as a demographic (slightly NSFW/H)...

...and I’m glad Sam of “The Majority Report” didn’t let Rod Rosenstein off the hook for the latter’s infamous work with Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III in separating kids from their parents at our border – I can recall when our utterly useless corporate media tried to portray Rosenstein as some kind of a heroic intermediary against Bill Barr allowing Robert Mueller to put his report together that many of us thought would ultimately lead to the Gropenfuhrer’s removal from office (and I may have bought into that a little too...mea maxima culpa), when in fact the whole damn thing turned out to be Repugs Covering Up For Each Other, Part The Infinity as Charlie Pierce might say...

...and kudos to Greta Thunberg for speaking up once again to encourage votes for Biden/Harris, as John and Francesca of The Damage Report tell us...

...oh, and please try to tell me again how “liberal” NBC and MSNBC supposedly are, basically rewarding (as David Doel quite rightly points out) Our Orange Pustule-In-Chief for bailing on the second Biden debate with his own “town hall” event full of the typical lies...as Doel correctly notes, our utterly useless corporate media will do ANYTHING for a “horse race” with the highest possible ratings...

...and in keeping with the “fourth estate,” this story (probably behind the wretched pay wall of the NYT) has to do with Repug-friendly PR outfits masquerading as news outlets trying to fill the gap caused by the decline in circulation of local newspapers...we don’t subscribe to daily newspapers anymore because we’re tired of subsidizing wingnut garbage, and it’s just been a “race to the bottom” for dailies as they try to suck up to conservatives with $$ even though they’re a shrinking demographic...just rotten economics all around, but I don’t absolve news organizations for not being creative enough to change their model of providing content in a way that ensures their survival (and when it comes to “journamalism,” as Atrios sez, I also give you this...puts me in mind to hear this tune again).
