Saturday Stuff

Happy 70th birthday to movie legend Robert De Niro

…and this is probably an appropriate tune for a Saturday night – don’t’ try this at home (or If you do, just don’t tell anybody).

Friday Stuff

You know, I hate to rain to the “moderate Mikey” parade, what with everyone so happy about him supporting wind energy tax credits, but why exactly does he favor phasing them out (noted here)? And is he prepared to do the same thing to oil subsidies (here)? And why again exactly did he once oppose funding development of clean energy anyway (here)?

Sounds to me like more of the behavior depicted in this video…

…and no, I’m not going to give up on the issue of the Repugs trying to make sure hungry Americans starve, as long as they keep trying, and you know they will…

…and I can’t wait to hear more corporate media tut-tutting from Bob Schieffer over this (cue the sound of crickets); yes, this isn’t good, but if we were talking about Bushco, Dubya, Cheney, Rummy and that bunch would have just yelled back “Oh, yeah? 9/11, 9/11, 9/11!!!” and our thoroughly cowed corporate media would have dutifully sat down and shut up on cue – just sayin’…

…and RIP Allen Lanier of Blue Oyster Cult…

Thursday Stuff

Jack Germond was one of the handful of print journalists that I admired way back in those supposedly awful Clinton years, back when we last saw anything close to actual prosperity – not proud of admitting that I spent more time than I probably should have watching “Dr. McLaughlin’s Gong Show,” but I always thought Germond was the rock of sanity while lunacy reigned just about all around…love the Germond quote from Dan Balz here about interviewing politicians in New Hampshire…RIP

…and I would guess that Mohamed Morsi in Egypt probably would not have done everything we would have liked, but that’s still no excuse for the carnage depicted in this video (interesting analysis anchored here by Chris Hayes – an equally-tragic-at-least update is here)…

…and Martin Bashir had a clip on the U.S. House and immigration here that I thought was typically well done – the House will never pass comprehensive immigration reform, and it will end up as a great big political millstone around their necks that they will completely deserve…

…and this guy is coming to the Philly Folk Festival in these parts starting tomorrow (yep, the graphics on this video are really busy :- ).

Wednesday Stuff

(I also posted here.)

To me, Bob Schieffer is the epitome of the thoroughly compromised Beltway media courtier; I cannot imagine how he possible believes that he has the right to lecture Edward Snowden, but somehow he does (John Amato responds better than I could here)…

Update 8/16/13: Wonder if we’ll hear tut-tutting from Schieffer over this – cue the sound of crickets in the meantime.

…and if we really had a liberal media, then exceptional reporting like this by Rachel Maddow on Governor Bully would be the norm instead of the exception (I cannot believe 2016 is being discussed now, but as long as it is, I thought Bill Burton in particular had some interesting observations)…

…and speaking of the word “liberal,” John Fugelsang has some good thoughts on that here (never knew it to be a pejorative by narrow-minded types until The Sainted Ronnie R occupied An Oval Office)…

…and here’s a question – how exactly can you go wrong with both Buddy Guy and Gary Clark, Jr.? Here’s the answer – you can’t.

Tuesday Stuff

I know it’s hard to believe that I’m including a video from Smerky (and leading with Drudge - pathetic), but I think he makes some good points on the whole presidential vacation thing, citing Mark Knoller of CBS News; of course, Smerky being who he is, you know he’s going to defend Dubya, but the numbers tell the story as far as I’m concerned…

…and nice to see Martin Bashir bringing more of an edge, particularly concerning that worm Darrell Issa; by the way, here is the Levin/Cummings WaPo piece - haven’t checked it out yet, but I plan to soon…

…and last night I included a video from Dem John Morse, facing a recall election for his common-sense gun votes in the Colorado state house; Angela Giron is also, and to help, click here.

Update 8/14/13: Ugh...

…and here’s an upbeat little number as the summer winds down.

Monday Stuff

Want more evidence that Repug U.S. House Rep Dana Rohrabacher is a Koch-ALEC-Teahadist tool (here)? Watch this

…and the town hall “fun” has already started, I see, as Martin Bashir and Dem Rep. Raul Grijalva point out here (and no, it isn't an intentional bad joke to have a video discussing climate change follow with a video including a Keystone XL commercial, which would only make the problem worse and not do spit for job creation)…

Visit NBCNews.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

…and here is a video on behalf of one of the two Dem state house reps in Colorado facing a recall for doing the right thing on common-sense gun laws; I’ll try to get to the other as soon as I can (and to help, click here - and sadly, how typical is this?)…

…and no, this tune isn’t autobiographical…honest.

Sunday Stuff

Time will tell, I suppose (and I wouldn’t trust anything from Major Garrett based on this)…

…and here is an econ history lesson…ah, but the Repugs will keep trying to resuscitate that zombie lie about “supply side” economics anyway…

…and speaking of Repug non-governance, I guess “No Corporate Tax” Pat Toomey’s new nickname should be “I told you we’d kill it” based on this (and to help Admiral Joe, click here – yes, 2016 is a ways off, but he’s going to have a mighty fight on his hands)…

…and yep, whether you like it or not, here comes another summer song (P.S. - Happy 75th birthday to Dash Crofts on 8/14).
