Saturday Stuff

I thought Bill Maher made some good points here in his first “New Rules” segment since returning from hiatus - we all need to take a look in the mirror (don’t blink, or HBO will pull down this video I’m sure like they always do – idiots)…

…and how dare Ezra Klein come up with an informed analysis based on boring stuff like, y’know, actual facts and data (here) – not going to be invited on the Sunday morning gab fests by doing stuff like that (removing my tongue from my cheek)…

…and Stephen Colbert does it again (yeah, I'm sure those third graders are writing their letters to Obama telling him to restructure our debt - what a maroon)…

…and Janis Joplin would have been 70 today.

Friday Stuff

(I also posted here.)

I don’t know if anybody else besides me noticed, but today would have been the 100th birthday of Danny Kaye (a wonderful clip from this pic)...

...and oh yeah, anybody remember our combat veterans in Iraq and Afghanistan – show of hands?...

...and I love the way Jon Stewart starts his commentary by making fun of this – so bizarre as to be utterly beyond any description from yours truly (and I guess “tyrannical overreach” is all in the eye of the beholder)...

...and here’s a little bit of Friday night “message” music.

Thursday Stuff

Want to know what it’s like when Democrats go bad? Check this out.

Return the NRA blood money or become a Repug, Congressman Barrow. It’s your choice…

…and speaking of lousy Democrats, I think it’s time once more to revisit this clip on “Bush Dog” Jim Cooper, given the fact that he was the ONLY DEMOCRAT who voted against relief for victims of Hurricane Sandy (here); here he is opposing the public option about three years ago (and how prophetic was Dr. Dean here about the Democrats losing their gains in Congress if they didn’t get stuff done that most of this country wanted?)…

…oh, and you want to talk to a liberal who owns a gun? Here’s Aisha Tyler on Current (for now) TV…

…and given this story (RIP), I offer the following as a tribute.

Wednesday Stuff

So NRA liar-in-chief David Keene tells Wolf Blitzer that he’d be open to background checks at gun shows.

Really?

As noted here
National Rifle Association President David Keene suggested to CNN's Candy Crowley that he has little faith in universal background checks, saying they don't work.
And as far as that remark about reporting stolen guns being “problematic” or something, that’s only the case as far as Keene is concerned because, like all common-sense gun measures, he’s fighting that too (here).

The NRA “leadership” is beholden to the gun industry. They’ve long since proved that they don’t give a damn about anyone or anything else, including their own membership…

Update 1/17/13: Uh, yep.

…and Keene also said that terrorists don't buy guns, or something.

Again, really? And please don’t lecture me because the narrator said “fully automatic” – a semi-automatic weapon will kill you just as dead...

…and Chris Matthews has been making a lot of sense lately, and he does again here (and deep down, he knows the reason why the Repugs have gone completely around the bend, but that’s at least a five-minute commentary by itself)…

…and when I heard about this, I first felt disgust and revulsion (I also commented on it and other stuff here), but when I heard this tune later today while filling up the Doomsymobile, I thought that the title was perfect to sum up how I feel about it (and concerning the NRA and the Repugs overall I suppose).

Tuesday Stuff

The year is still pretty young, but George Burnett is my asshat of the year for this: 1) Charging liberals more money for your stinking smoothies is lame enough, but 2) …well, just turn off Fix Noise and read this, you numbskull…

…and funny, but I’m not hearing any smartass conservative BS about “cheese eating surrender monkeys” over this

…and for now – for now – I’m willing to cut Obama and the Dems some slack on the gun thing, especially since Biden hasn’t released the findings of his commission, but I’d be lying if I said that I didn’t think there was already something in the works to call half the proverbial loaf a victory and walk away; love to be wrong…

…and here’s a bit of a sop to what used to be called “Top 40” radio – good tune all the same.

Monday Stuff

Happy birthday to T-Bone Burnett (again, not much country here, so enjoy it while you can)…

…and here are more real-life people outside the Beltway who stand to be hurt badly by the idiocy of the U.S. House Republicans (hey, Mr.-Bucks-County-Moneybags-Who-Apparently-Needs-A-Constructive-Way-To-Spend-His-Dough Gene Epstein, you gonna take out another full page ad in the Courier Times telling us how much you love Mikey the Beloved if he helps to hold our economy hostage again? And memo to Frank Luntz – this is about a hell of a lot more than language)…

…and it looks like Lex Luthor Scott has won over a hard-to-reach demographic (and what is it with Republicans and dogs anyway?)…

...and happy birthday also to Allen Toussaint.

Sunday Stuff

Oh, and in case you missed this little item from the prior week, it looks like AIG won’t be joining a shareholder lawsuit filed by former chairman Hank Greenberg and others over the supposedly “onerous” terms of the taxpayer bailout; here is a stroll down memory sewer, as it were, concerning the company’s misbehavior (ends kind of suddenly, but you get the point)…

…and if ever there was a video that called for a cameo by John Cleese, I think this is it (a joke for Python fans).
