Friday Stuff

John and David Shuster of The Damage Report tell us about some lady (using the term loosely) in that trucking protest around D.C. saying she didn’t want to be “digitiled” (???) and that other loopy guy who’s protesting because??...

Update: If any of those knuckleheads mess up the 911 response system by stupidly flooding it and someone dies as a result (hopefully not of course), then the person responsible should be prosecuted for manslaughter (here).

..and Richard Ojeda of Rebel HQ tells us about Vlad The Butcher bombing a children’s hospital in Mariupol, Ukraine...so many levels of despicable that it’s hard to capture them all...

...and I thought this was an interesting clip of CBC correspondent Andrew Chang interviewing foreign affairs correspondent Brian Stewart on Ukraine’s military resiliency, to say nothing of the resiliency of its people overall...

...and Ana and Cenk of TYT tell us about Ukrainian forces lighting up a Russian tank column (and in addition to his thoroughly numerous other faults, it’s surprising in no way that Jimmy Dore is an apologist for Vlad The Butcher)...

...and David Doel discusses Biden’s decision not to import Russian oil (good point about the price gouging that’s of course still raging unabated in our economy and potential ripple effects vs. Russia as Doel explains – interesting note about gas prices being $5 a gallon under Former President Highest Disapproval Rating In Gallup Poll History, and to be fair, there wasn’t much George W. Bush could do about that either, though I definitely don’t remember people losing their minds over that issue then as they are now...gee, I wonder what could be different about that...and good points by Ilhan Omar against our “dear friends” the Saudis and their slaughter against Yemen (here), as well as the fact that we should have been investing in renewables to a hell of a greater degree than we have already as Doel says)...

...and speaking of cruelty to kids, Emma Vigland of The Majority Report tells us that Sen. Mr. Elaine Chao wants to block federal waivers that offer universal free school lunches during the pandemic...yep, #MoscowMitch strikes again (more on that death eater from Kentucky and his caucus of Russian quislings is here)...

...and I thought this was an unusually good local news report, this one from Ch. 10 in Tampa Bay, about FLA Guv #DeathSantis getting a bill passed to “police” elections and basically discourage Democratic voters – the clip also looks at states that not only have stupidly restrictive voting access, but others that have expanded people’s ability to exercise their franchise (and I realize they have to have a clip of a lying Republican for “balance,” so as a counter point with the reality-based perspective, I offer this...what an insufferably smug a-hole #DeathSantis is)...

...and when it comes to artists boycotting Spotify (remember that?), I know I haven’t included anything from Joni Mitchell for a little while, so I’d like to make up for that with a couple of her tunes from “back in the day” (yep, I watched Dick Cavett many moons ago).

Wednesday Stuff

Chris Hayes gives us a history lesson on the cost of relying on corrupt regimes for energy (with clips of pretty much every prior president speaking on this going back to Nixon, including The Sainted Ronnie R, who idiotically got rid of the solar panels Jimmy Carter wisely installed at the White House...the person Hayes ended up interviewing was Dem U.S. Senator Ed Markey of Massachusetts, who is pretty damn knowledgeable on the subject of renewable energy...and Biden has banned importing Russian oil as noted here)...

...and that’s probably a good lead-in to this DW report on the Russian military apparently targeting civilians – bastards...also, volunteers are coming from all over the place to help Ukraine, to their eternal credit...security analyst Ed Arnold is interviewed once again...

...and John and Francesca talk about Generalissimo Trump cheering on war between Russia and China (labeling U.S. military planes as if they’re from China, then those planes bomb Russia, then Russia and China go at it and won’t that supposedly be great...unbelievable – yeah, as if that isn’t one of the first things Russia and China already figured out...Francesca makes a lot of good points particularly in the last minute...84 freaking minutes of that numbskull??)...

...and Farron Cousins tells us about the “mighty rodent” in FLA contributing to politicians behind the “don’t say gay” bill...scurrilous monsters supporting that awful legislation – related links are here, here, here, and here...and I guess it shouldn’t surprise me that there’s a bit of an intersection between people supporting awful bills like these and the anti-mask crowd as noted here...

...and with the prior clip in mind, I now give you the latest installment of “This Day In Doomsy History” (more or less) from 3/6/17, in which former Texas sports commentator Dale Hansen (who I believe has since retired) speaks out in defense of trans athlete Mack Beggs – definitely something to keep in mind in light of this...

...and this is probably one of the best clips I’ve seen in awhile on the subject of taxation from Ben Carollo of Rebel HQ (an unidentified guy on TikTok does a good job of blowing up some wingnut talking points on this subject) – I have to admit that I was skeeved out a little at the end, but that’s my problem and I have to get over it (re, the prior two clips)...

...and returning to what I guess you could call more traditional gender roles, Ana of TYT tells us about Joe Manchin joining Repugs to block a Senate bill that would codify Roe (and no, I don’t let Bob Casey off the hook here either; even though the political calculation made that a smart move for an important base constituency for Casey, it was still a crappy move for all the other reasons...I wish I could get mad at Anna for her summing up at the end, but in good conscience I really can’t)...

...and happy 80th birthday to Mark Lindsay of Paul Revere And The Raiders.

Tuesday Stuff

Mehdi Hasan speaks with Oxana Shevel, president of the American Association for Ukrainian Studies; they discuss Vlad the Butcher of course and the war in Ukraine (echoing earlier clips about Putin refusing to tolerate the presence of a democracy on his border...and this is another typically disgusting move)...

...ang Joy Reid talks with Prof. Nina Khrushcheva and former Russian U.S. ambassador Michael McFaul on the ways Putin is clamping down on social media and messaging overall in Russia concerning the Ukraine war (along with companies pulling out of that country...also, Reid plays the video of that captured Russian soldier at the end; the full clip is roughly about 10 minutes, and it is indeed very powerful)...

...and this is probably the most topical video Second Thought has ever produced, and it’s about Putin and Ukraine of course (definitely can do without Johnny Harris, I must say...the real payoff, such as it is, comes at about 17:00, discussing the conditions that brought us to Putin)...

...and Brian Tyler Cohen tells us that “Blow ‘Em Up” Bolton recently said that Trump would have taken the U.S. out of NATO if he’d had a second term...I think Bolton is a scumbag, but sadly, this remark makes sense (and regarding that typical Trump lie about Obama and blankets, I give you this)...

...and Jayar Jackson and Rick Strom tell us about this KY Repug idiot named Danny Bentley over RU-486 talking about Jewish women and cancer...yeah, a real Darwin award winner here (more here)...

...and happy International Women's Day (more here).

Monday Stuff

I don’t know much about the makers of this clip, made by a bunch who call themselves the Republican Accountability Project, but it’s pretty damn good (would that, y’know, the Democrats had the spine to do something like this)...

...and it looks like The Daily Show has discovered the drug suddenly used by everyone in the “party of Lincoln”...

...and Ayman Mohyeldin, sitting in for Rachel Maddow, tells us about the last independent TV channel in Russia that was forced to shut down...figures (interview with Tikhon Dzyadko, editor-in-chief of TV Rain)...

...and Lawrence O’Donnell gives us a bit of a history lesson on the Cold War (including the “daisy ad”...I basically don’t have an issue with O’Donnell and I think he’s generally spot-on, and once in a while he “hits it out of the park,” and I think he does that again here)...

...and Beau gives us the latest on Huckleberry Graham’s remarks that probably will get a lot of play in Russia (calling for the oligarchs to “off” Vlad The Butcher...how many ways of duuuh! to count here...not sure I can recall the last time I saw Beau so genuinely disgusted, and for damn good reason)...

...and Cenk and Ana of TYT discuss Pat Robertson’s particularly bonkers take on Putin supposedly “on a mission from God,” or something, trying to hasten the “end times” (kudos to Cenk for his “take no prisoners” commentary on this)...

...and returning to matters affecting this country, this clip from More Perfect Union describes UPS workers getting hurt on the job and apparently getting forced back to work (and dishonorable mentions go out to Concentra and Liberty Mutual, who apparently work with UPS to force workers back onto the job when they’re not ready)...

...and here’s another Nils Lofgren tune with this in mind.
