Today’s Civics Lesson For Katie Harris

The Repug political human sacrifice for the U.S. Senate in Florida said this last week (no word on how many of her campaign staffers have quit this week, by the way):

"We have to have the faithful in government and over time," the (Florida Baptist) Witness quotes Harris as saying, "that lie we have been told, the separation of church and state, people have internalized, thinking that they needed to avoid politics and that is so wrong because God is the one who chooses our rulers."
I now quote the First Amendment to the United States Constitution:

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."
Anyone who voted for this airhead while running for any public office whatsoever should be forced to undergo a mandatory I.Q. test.

But then again, maybe she really is that stupid after all.

it's not stupidity... she really believes it... there are a number of fundamentalist evangelical christians (the proper term is "dominionists") who are convinced that the founders established the u.s. as a christian state and, even if that was not the intent, they believe it is their sworn duty as followers of christ to make it so... harris is only mouthing those beliefs in public, which most public figures who hold the same beliefs don't do... sen. brownback from kansas is another one... go do some research on brownback... it will chill you to the bone...

Aside from the fact that Brownback was the leading Repug in the Senate persecuting Howard Stern before he went to Sirius, I think I saw a picture of his Senate office one day, and he had a huge mural painting of himself in the background. Just a bit of an ego, I would say...

What I meant to communicate was the point you made: that Harris was dumb in that she publicly said what all the dominionists believe privately but are too smart and deceitful to say publicly. Thanks for checking in and clarifying that.
