Thursday Stuff
Sam and Emma of The Majority Report bring us the story of wingnut U.S. House Repug Harriet Hageman of Wyoming getting geography wrong, thinking San Diego is in the Gulf of Mexico (and yes, I'm sticking with that correct name)...and yeah, isn’t it rich to hear Hageman accuse Mexico of pollution given that the head of Hageman’s party wants to gut environmental regs as noted here (and the Gropenfuhrer is up to his eyeballs in Project 2025, his pleadings to the contrary notwithstanding)...and just remember, Hageman’s state of Wyoming voted out Liz Cheney because she wasn’t conservative enough...
...and Chris Hayes tells us about Yambo being hell bent on destroying the U.S. economy, and though I’m definitely not a financial expert, I do detect a bit of a “sugar high” in how the markets are performing; when we start seeing empty shelves in a few weeks, I’m afraid it will be a much different story...and though I definitely don’t believe a word coming out of the mouth of Our Treasonous Orange Pestilence, he does seem to have gone “around the bend” in a big way with his “shop keeper of America” nonsense...
...and sticking with economic stuff, particularly food, Robert Reich tells us about potato processors in the US (allegedly) engaging in price fixing, with 47% increases while manufacturing costs dropped; I have a feeling that stuff like this will only increase with companies trying to squeeze out every penny before the economic downturn hits for real (love to be wrong on that)...
...and turning to legal matters, John and Brett Erlich of The Damage Report tell us that it looks like this Harmeet Dhillon at Trump’s DOJ ended up causing a mass exodus of the civil rights division (losing about 70 percent of the workforce by terminations or resignations) by saying something along the lines of priorities changing, or words to that effect, which is Trumpist-speak for Dhillion wanting the DOJ to be the consiglieres for Cantaloupe Capone, the Constitution and will of the people be damned...and I totally believe John at the end about the MAGA lunatics being happy about all the “Ls” they’re going to end up taking on their retirement, jobs, overall quality of life, etc. to say nothing of their kids, as long as a “trannie” somewhere isn’t allowed to swim or play field hockey...the four horsemen must be saddling up at this point...
...and Brian Tyler Cohen and Marc Elias tell us about the district court judge who ruled in favor of Dem state supreme court judge Allison Riggs, and that would be Richard Myers, appointed by Our Ochre Abomination in 2019...this case was all about cherry-picking some voters in order to remove their votes from the 4 majority Dem districts in that state, which of course is overwhelmingly Repug, with the effect being to illegally put Repug Jefferson Griffin into the role instead of Riggs... and of course, this is a typical Repug hissy fit over not getting their way (as Elias notes, the Repugs in that state found a way to strip power from the Dem governor/administration and give the authority to compose the election board to a lower-level Repug official, the state auditor...and yep, as Elias says, all these lunatics need is one win in court somewhere to act as a rallying point for more voting mischief in other states)...
...and as someone very much “in the faith,” I would say that this is great news...that being said, we’ll find out more about the new Pope in the coming days and weeks (I'm taking a bit of a "wait and see" attitude); apparently, he’s not big on ordaining women, unfortunately, but he deserves the benefit of the doubt for now...for the time being, I think this tune is appropriate.
