Friday Stuff

Lawrence O’Donnell informs us that federal prosecutors are trying to get Mango Mussolini to not charge former FBI Director James Comey...I have to admit that I’m torn a bit on this; yes, Comey deserves what he gets as far as I’m concerned for sabotaging the Hillary Clinton campaign for president in 2016 (though the Dem candidate had some issues as a campaigner IMO), but I get a little squeamish I’ll admit every time Cantaloupe Capone railroads someone like this because I think it creates a dangerous precedent (a completely predictable update is here...given all of the would-be indictments from the Trump DOJ that get tossed, I have to say that I like Comey's chances)...we also hear about the statue on the mall in DC of #47 and his former best bud Jeffrey Epstein holding hands (would love to know who was behind that so I can buy them a beer)...also, congrats to Adelita Grijalva on winning the special election in Arizona to hold the seat of her late father, Raul Grijalva...also, I can’t believe that Repug U.S. House Rep Thomas Massie is standing tall on the Epstein stuff – I’m sure it’s for crass political reasons, but I have to give him credit...also, kudos to the Daily Mirror for giving it to Pumpkin Pol Pot over that mess of a UN speech (I’ve often said that we think our politics are rough and tumble in this country, but we’ve got nothing on the Brits as far as I’m concerned)...and that nematode Jesse Watters says the teleprompter and escalator nonsense are an “insurrection”?

No, you utterly worthless corporate media lickspittle (who probably couldn’t hold down a job any other way). THIS is an insurrection...
And oh yeah, Pumpkin Pol Pot screeched on Truth Septic that Dems want “transgender operations for everybody”...

(You know, at a certain point, I just have to admit that pointing out the despicable lack of character, integrity, or intelligence of any kind from Bronzer Beelzebub is kind of a fool’s errand, since that plainly won’t “move the needle” on his part and could only get yours truly unduly exercised for no good reason).

Here’s the O’Donnell clip...

Update: Well said...
...and Texas Paul from the Meidas Touch Network opines on Trump's UN speech...wonder how many people out there think Biden's debate performance was worse than this train wreck? And yeah, I know there are plenty of zealots who think Don The Con can say or do no wrong...
...and Brian Tyler Cohen tells us that Matt Stone and Trey Parker had some fun at the expense of Trump FCC head Brendan Carr recently...definitely a terrific job by Cohen of “bringing the receipts” from the bunch that laughably claimed to be “free speech warriors” along with documenting the push-back they’re getting all over the place (and that tweet when he was FCC head under Biden shows that Carr has no core principles at all, which I guess isn’t surprising...NSFW/H)...

via GIPHY

...oh, and did you hear that about 1,200 prisoners are missing from Alligator Alcatraz (with Flori-DUUH blaming ICE and vice versa)? I wonder if anyone will print any T-shirts to commemorate that or come up with some catchy social media gifs or something – and yes, I know the answer...and I also know the Jimmy Kimmel stuff here is behind the news cycle a bit...and by the way, Vance Boelter, the suspect in the murder of Melissa Hortman and her husband, was an evangelical opposed to abortion rights as noted here, so “Doofus Donnie Jr.” is talking out of his butt again...and yeah, those “trannies” are just so deadly, aren’t they (SMDH)...video is a bit of a rehash of other Trumpist madness, but I think it matters to keep calling this out (Thom Hartmann tells us about it)...

...and Stephen Colbert gives us an update on the latest bedlam from our ruling cabal of grifters and lowlifes...we also hear about the Trump-Epstein statue that was removed as you might expect, no doubt on the orders of our incredibly thin-skinned *preznit...oh, and I guess now we also have “escalator-gate” to deal with per spokes-liar Karoline Leavitt (echoing O'Donnell I know)? And “fired and investigated immediately”? I would ask if Trumpette Leavitt had that backwards, but no – I think she had that right, for them anyway...and yeah, the Gropenfuhrer wants the Nobel Prize, which is an obscenity of course, and that’s only because Obama got one and #47 didn’t...oh, and we also get more crackpot history on resolving the Cambodia/Armenia war, and I’m sure that location for his “library” in Miami will end up housing a bunch of explicit memorabilia of Russian hookers and splattered packets of ketchup (and oh yeah, also a Qatari luxury jet, a hotel, and about $31 million?? And all for the “library”...sure it is)...

Update 10/3/25: The statue returns! (here).

...and I have to tell you that I went back and forth on including this tune given the “insurrection” stuff, but I ended up caving (I can’t believe this song was a hit, but after all, it was the '80s...and yes I know, RIP Robert Hazard – I think the guys are wearing more lipstick than the women 😊).

Thursday Stuff

Jesse Dollemore lets us know about the return of Jimmy Kimmel on Tuesday, with Combover Caligula having done his best to draw more viewers to the ABC host’s show...great point by Kimmel that his show is actually secondary to the overall principle of adhering to free speech as enshrined in the Constitution...I’d neglected to mention the restrictions that “I’ll Drink To That” Hegseth is putting into place on what journalists can and cannot report under Trump’s DoD (here)...and “It could only good happen” - ???...I wonder if Fix Noise is going to play that in an endless loop as they did every time Biden stammered (and yes, I know that answer, but I’m inclined to ask anyway)...

...and as a bit of a follow-up, Thom Hartmann explains how the death of comedy can be a pretext to the death of democracy (I can take or leave the jokes except the “running out of bullets” one, but the resistance is the point I know)...”dictators can’t take a joke” indeed...interesting (and disturbing) history on Goebbels For Real going after comedians in 1939 for criticizing Der Fuehrer, and I don’t think it’s hyperbole at all to say that the FCC’s Brendan Carr has taken a page out of that execrable playbook...and yeah, banners of Yambo’s surly mug all over the place is another indicator of our slide into authoritarianism that we need to keep fighting...

...and Dan Lieberman of More Perfect Union tells us that it looks like some folks in New Carlisle, Indiana are going through a process with the Orwellian name of “de-watering” in order to cool the computer chips at Amazon’s data center...boy, I must have missed the spirited public debate that took place (I’m sure) over building yet another of these monstrosities (#sarcasm)...and the news isn’t any better in Michigan City in that same state, where some secret “end user” would get some big tax break...and God almighty, possibly 40 of these data centers in that state? Ugh...and yep people, you can just trace all of this to Repug supermajorities in state government...and this Genco sounds like a corporate behemoth in the making that likely will not be accountable to anybody except the shareholders of course (wasn’t that the name of the “front” olive oil company in “The Godfather” movies?)...and I’m sure that 7-2 vote in favor of the data center was probably prearranged before that public meeting even took place...

...and I now give you the latest installment of “This Day In Doomsy History” (more or less) from 9/23/14...yes, we know what an unbelievable embarrassment Bronzer Beelzebub gave us at the UN the other day with his typical cavalcade of ridiculous lies (including ending 7 wars, which I think this sociopath truly believes), but let’s not forget that, once again, he ridiculed moving towards a clean energy economy...with that in mind, I give you the following (more info is here)...

...and it’s been a few days since I checked in with Mr. Newberger, but I’m glad to see he hasn’t lost his touch...

...and John Bonham of Led Zeppelin died on this day in 1980.

Wednesday Stuff

Sam and Emma of The Majority Report tell us about Don The Con going on Fix and Fiends and indirectly trying to incite violence among all the knuckle draggers who somehow still support him...gee, didn’t we just have a ceremony full of hosannas to Charlie Kirk where the “party of Lincoln” called for nothing but peace and love and all that (#sarcasm of course – this is more along the lines of what they actually have in mind)...I realize there are so many outrages with our *preznit that it’s hard to keep up with all of them, but he does need to be held to account as much as possible of course (and we need to keep using the word "alleged" concerning Tyler Robinson; don't want to take the slightest risk of anything to prejudice his trial)...

...and Robert Reich gives us a recap of Combover Caligula using government to wage war on free speech...video does a good job of reviewing all of the corporate media infamies of sucking up to Dear Orange Leader, as well as #47’s typically petty lawsuits aimed at news orgs that don’t fawn over him...I would argue that the rotten seeds of all of this were sown by lapdog corporate media compliance to wingnut propaganda over lo these past 20-30 years, all in the name of “balance”...

...and Belle tells us that it looks like "President Pedo" has given the makers of Tylenol a big-time excuse for a lawsuit...one hell of an eye roll from Belle in response to #47’s “biggest announcement in medical history” claim – how many more times does it need to be pointed out that Our Ochre Abomination is a treasonous, narcissistic sociopath?...sounds like Pumpkin Pol Pot heard something from “Bobby Brainworms” on this and it definitely got lost in translation...

...and David Shuster of Rebel HQ brings us the story of mush mouth "border czar" Tom Homan BUSTED for taking a $50K bribe stuffed in a grocery bag...Dem U.S. House Rep Robert Garcia is absolutely correct in saying that Homan should be nowhere near a government position, at a minimum...at a maximum, Homan should be prosecuted, and don’t give me this BS that, well, Homan wasn’t technically a government worker yet...and an “improper” investigation? Oh, riiight, because it involved a Trumper...see how this works? And kudos to the Brits for standing tall once again...

...and Brian Tyler Cohen tells us about Our Treasonous Orange Pestilence at the UN...yep, this is about what you can expect from this delusional, narcissistic man-baby, complaining about a teleprompter and an elevator...and by the way, isn’t this the guy who complained about Biden using a teleprompter? And these antics from this clueless orange meat sack probably won’t bother about 30-40 percent of this country, just to let you know...it’s only been barely eight months, people; can you imagine an entire presidential term of this? Can I take the gas pipe now?...

...well, I can at least try to be a little upbeat with this musical selection, right?

Tuesday Stuff

Tennesse Brando gives us his take on the Charlie Kirk Bund rally...and oh yeah, “Bobby Brainworms” compared Kirk to Jesus because of course...Lord knows I’ve heard Cantaloupe Capone say much worse stuff than what is in this clip, but Brando is right; it definitely puts the lie to this insane delusion that Charlie Kirk was all peace and love and let’s sing kumbaya along with every other wingnut...naaah, it’s all about VIOLENCE AGAINST THE LIBS!!!...and Brando is about 150 percent right about those alleged “Democrats” in the U.S. House who voted in favor of a day of remembrance for Kirk; more on that shortly...and oh yeah, “Pee Wee German” apparently tried to translate Mein Kampf again in front of the crowd of methane dispensers, who roared with approval naturally...great job by Brando to turn around that typically vile quote at the end from Cheetoh Hitler (slightly NSFW/H)...

...and Jesse Dollemore tells us about 95 alleged U.S. House Democrats who signed onto a House resolution honoring Kirk (here)...I read a quote from someone online (John Oliver maybe?) saying more or less that the actions of EVERYONE are going to be remembered at this dangerous moment, and that goes for Hakeem Jeffries (already called out by Brando) and the other frauds on that list of 95...and whatever the AP came up with in the way of a headline for this, it was going to look like House Dems stepped on another rake again, you might say...and “the deepening political divide?” And who again is responsible for that, AP? Why don’t you try doing your f*cking jobs and ACTUALLY REPORT ON WHAT’S GOING ON, NOTABLY, WHICH POLITICAL PARTY IS CALLING FOR VIOLENCE!!!...and I have to admit that I definitely didn’t read the resolution honoring Kirk, but now that I’m hearing it, I think I need to take a med to control an oncoming fit of nausea...and yeah, I’m sure you can guess that Marie Gluesenkamp Perez and Jared Golden are smack dab in the middle of this mess; that disgusting, utterly saccharine statement from the Washington state rep is at least as vile at the actual resolution honoring a propagandistic lickspittle like Kirk (“MAGA Mike” Johnson and his pals probably laughed their asses off when they read what Perez wrote...and once again, I give you this in response)...

...and Brian Tyler Cohen gives us background on what lead to the reinstatement of Jimmy Kimmel; namely, a torrential flood of content creators protesting, but more importantly, about $3 billion in cancellations to the Disney Plus and Hulu streaming services...oh yes, I’m sure ABC had “fruitful talks” with Kimmel, or whatever nonsense that explanation was...uh huh...and apparently, Sinclair and Nexstar are going to keep Kimmel off their stations; I don't think there is a Sinclair station in the Philly area, but if you're inclined to boycott any of their other stations, a list is here (NSFW/H)...

...and I’ve been meaning to get to this for awhile, so I guess I’d better do it now...Robert Reich tells us the secret behind high gas prices, namely, that we’re getting charged twice: first, for the price at the pump, and second, to pay for subsidies and tax breaks for these dirty energy bastards, including the extra $18 billion they got from the Big Beautiful Clusterf*ck...yeah, what does Exxon-Mobil, Chevron or BP care about our melting planet as long as that green paper keeps flowing their way, right?...

...and I think this man is spot-on; when it comes to our way of life, it is indeed for "all of us to share" IMO (NSFW)...

...and RIP Tom Shipley, one half of a one-hit-wonder duo (this tune in particular) from back in the day.

Monday Stuff

This clip via Tony Hinderman of Really American tells us about Stephen Colbert responding to Jimmy Kimmel getting taken off the air– AWESOME job on the “Beauty and the Beast” parody (and how about this, my fellow prisoners?)...I didn’t know that FCC hack Brendan Carr wrote that bit about Section 230 of the Communications Act and how that relates to Project 2025, but that’s typical of the utterly disgusting subterfuge of our ruling cabal and all of their whiny BS grievance (“oh, we’re oppressed wingnuts – help us!!”)...I can take or leave Joy Behar, to be honest, along with the rest of that show, but they should be immune from FCC interference just like any other program unless they’re doing the equivalent of yelling “fire” in a crowded movie theater (NSFW/H)...

...and Brian Tyler Cohen informs us that, apparently, Kimmel’s firing was a bridge too far even for the wingnuts (some anyway), including this Kennedy person and The Swanson TV Dinner Heir...this clip does a pretty thorough job of documenting all of the ways that every Republican/conservative is an utterly shameless liar in defense of Mango Mussolini (and as usual, Jon Stewart rises to the moment at the very end)...slightly NSFW/H...

...and Jesse Dollemore lets us know that, after Brian Kilmeade says that the homeless should get lethal injection (and Kilmeade’s wishy-washy apology), three guesses what came next and the first two don’t count...yep, homeless people are being shot and lynched, including an attack at a homeless camp in Minneapolis...and by the way, I don’t give a damn that Minneapolis, MN mayor Jacob Frey is a Democrat; you’re either going to get serious about some kind of transitional housing for indigent people or you aren’t...I mean, if you’re more concerned about elderly boomer suburbanites brainwashed by Fix Noise, then say so, even though those folks likely won’t even come to your city anyway, it being a baaad urban environment and all that...”poverty is a policy choice” indeed...

...and Seth Meyers gives us “A Closer Look” on Yambo’s UK visit and...well, that other story I just alluded to involving late night hosts...looks like our friends “across the pond” indeed laid out the red carpet for Bronzer Beelzebub, but it was an appropriate push back IMO to broadcast the Trump/Epstein clip on the side of Windsor Castle...yep, we know what kind of an insecure, whining man-baby our *preznit truly is to go after comedians, and I honestly don’t know what else there is to say about it (I think Meyers was pretty spot-on, particularly near the end)...

Update: OK, so this is good news, which begs the question; why the hell was Kimmel kicked off the air to begin with?

...and I have to admit that, growing up in the Philly metro area, you can’t help but be inundated with sports history, especially when you’re fortunate enough to have teams in the four most popular professional sports leagues (not trying to demean the WNBA, soccer, etc.), and I realize that there are other cities that can make the same claim (including Detroit, Chicago, LA and NYC of course)...there was a time when all four Philly teams were “poor step children,” if you will, but I can recall that the first team that broke that mold was the Flyers, which was remarkable really since they had been a team of castoffs that were beaten pretty regularly by better teams...there are a few names in Philly that are legendary for the Flyers’ ascendancy (notably Bob Clarke), but no one more so than goaltender Bernie Parent (and yes, I know we’re talking about the pre-disco era, but the history matters)...Parent was truly a fearsome competitor on the ice for the reasons noted in the clip, but MUCH more than that, he was an inspirational figure for people coming back from addiction...my interests have moved on a bit and I now spend probably too much time as an idiot news/politics blogger, but I do remember where I came from...I know there’s that quote that you can tell when a mighty oak has fallen by the absence you feel, or something like that, and that is true big time in Parent’s case...this video captures a bit of why he was so important, though his impact goes way beyond that of course (kind of freaky that the NHL has lost some truly terrific goaltenders recently, also including Ken Dryden and Ed Giacomin)...RIP...

...and once more, I know I’m overdue for a newer tune, so I settled on this one; I have a feeling Bernie would approve of this selection.

Friday Stuff

John and Luke Beasley of The Damage Report inform us about “MAGA Mike” Johnson acting just so shocked that the U.S. House Dem leadership is apparently trying to get concessions from the Trump Party in response to averting a looming government shut down...I don’t want to shock anybody out there, but it’s possible – and work with me on this, OK? – that the “D” team may FINALLY HAVE DISCOVERED A FREAKING SPINE, so of course Johnson takes a break from watching p*rn with his son to scurry over to Fix Noise and complain...Dems are pushing for a reversal in Medicaid cuts, eliminating those godawful tariffs, a ban on stock trading (and I’m sure that last one will be the first to go in any negotiations, sadly...love to be wrong)...we’ll see what happens of course...

...and Jesse Dollemore tells us of Mango Mussolini trying to hide a study linking right-wing extremism to violence in the wake of the killing of you-know-who...and I would say that those numbers dating from 1990 are pretty damn indicative of which side is overwhelmingly responsible for our sorry sad state (mildly NSFW/H)...

...and Emma of The Majority Report brings us up to date on wingnuts trying to silence the left over Kirk’s murder (similar to the prior clip)...yep, we’ve seen ZERO evidence that this Tyler Robinson had any inclination whatsoever towards Democrats/liberals/progressives...and why does it not surprise me in the least that red state teachers are going to face a crackdown?...and oh yeah, Sean Inanity is such a “free speech champion,” isn’t he? And I want to see actual proof that SCOTUS justices and ICE agents were doxxed, as opposed to this Fix Noise millionaire throwing around BS charges...and as we might expect, there’s a lot more to the story of this school board member who was allegedly fired for inflammatory speech, and Inanity/Pam ”Blondi” blow that off; seems this school board member didn’t even mention Kirk at all in what she said, wrong-headed though her language was I’ll admit..so OF COURSE their idiot Repug guv Glenn Trumpkin jumps into the mess (and I know I went over the poster thing with Kirk and this James Asher already, but no, you can’t be prosecuted for failing to make a copy of a freaking poster)...

...and this report from The National takes a pretty detailed look at how Cantaloupe Capone’s CDC cuts could affect the health of Canadians...didn’t know how much our neighbors to the north relied on CDC data (interview with Dr. Fahad Razak), but I guess I shouldn’t be surprised, and why do I have a sinking feeling that this is yet another void created by Our Treasonous Orange Pustule that China will try to fill?...and of course, the anti-vax epicenters in this country are in “the land of the yellow rose” and Flori-DUUUH!, which we already knew...

...and I’ll admit that I kind of go back and forth with Hasan Piker, but it sounds like he’s on the mark here about all of us coming together to oppose Mango Mussolini...and kudos to Eric Swalwell, but we need to make that majority happen next year...but look over there; Our Treasonous Orange Pustule is declaring war on Antifa, which ISN’T EVEN AN ORGANIZATION...”they’re weak, they’re scared,” referring to the Trumpers of course...David Doel tells us more (NSFW/H also)...

Update: I thought this was spot-on (for Bluesky folks).

...and returning to the story that has dominated the news cycle this week, Desi Lydic of The Daily Show gives us the headlines, including “Slain Saint Charlie”; I’ll admit that this clip is kind of a rehash, but it does put the Kirk overreaction in the context it deserves IMO (and once more, we’d better include clips from TDS since that program may get axed next)...mildly NSFW/H also..

...and it’s a good thing we’re not living during the time of World War II, or else I’m sure Cheetoh Hitler would try to get this comedian cancelled also (from here)...

...and since we’re approaching the fall equinox, that means that I have to ring down the curtain on my summer selections with this number...oh well.

Thursday, September 18, 2025

Thursday Stuff

Emma May Weber of Media Matters gives us a breakdown on all the ways Fix Noise has been ratcheting up the fear and paranoia to 11, you might say, when it comes to deportation...I think Weber does a good job of informing us of just what happened to what passes for debate on this issue; The Sainted Ronnie R looks a bit like Joan Baez on this issue when compared to the mouth breathers in Not Your Father’s Republican Party today...we also learn about the Center for Immigration Studies muddying the discourse waters, you might say, with our beyond useless corporate media (including Smerky and Harris Faulkner of course) playing along (NSFW/H, and I would suggest that you not watch this on a full stomach)...

...but the big story on Action News is that it looks like another comedian is out of a job, and this time it’s Jimmy Kimmel (Chris Hayes tells us about it)...yep, Trumpist lackey Brendan Carr of the FCC pretty much leaned on Disney/ABC to drop Kimmel (and by the way, if you’re looking to do something in protest, I would suggest moving any $$ you may have invested in BlackRock or Vanguard, since they’re majority shareholders in Nexstar, the company that proposed dropping Kimmel first)...kudos to Hayes for drawing a line on this right from Yambo The Coward to Putin, Orban and Erdogan when it comes to going after the media...Hayes also does a terrific job of connecting the dots, as it were, when it comes to who owns our corporate media (and all of this while #47 is con-vee-niently out of the country)...Hayes speaks with Ben Rhodes and David Enrich...”we’re not near the beginning of the playbook, we’re nearing the end of the playbook”...ugh (another ridiculous MSNBC edit – would have liked to have heard Enrich)...more here – and by the way, let’s not forget that the “Mouse Network” was also guilty of this nonsense from the bad Bushco years...

Update 1: Damn right (about Dems calling for Carr to quit, I mean).

Update 2: Looks like Our Treasonous Orange Man-Baby has a case of hurt fee fees...
...and kudos to our friends "across the pond" for giving Bronzer Beelzebub the welcome he truly deserves (there also was this)...
...and David Shuster of Rebel HQ tells us more about Pumpkin Pol Pot destroying the “ag” industry as his trade war backfires, affecting in particular soybean farmers...part of me wants to ridicule these folks since they likely voted for Bronzer Beelzebub, but being the pin-headed lib that I am, I think we should do right by everyone doing essential labor to make a living in this country...”we’re not just losing sales (to China in particular), we’re losing trust” indeed...

...and Seth Meyers gives us “A Closer Look” on Cantaloupe Capone’s crypto deal with the UAE, in which we gave that country access to computer chips in return, according to a NYT investigation...so it looks like we have to hear the tortured retelling of the history of “Mr. Caboose” and “TikTok Jack”; I can’t imagine what I did to deserve living in this timeline, but it must have been pretty bad (I guess we’d better pay particular attention to Meyers now along with The Daily Show, since they may be the next programs to get pulled off the air)...

...and believe it or not, today is the 75th anniversary of the death of Jimi Hendrix.

Wednesday, September 17, 2025

Wednesday Stuff

Chris Hayes discusses the Trumpist caterwauling to protest the Constitutionally protected free speech in the wake of the murder of you-know-who...and of course, who else but Baby Goebbels is claiming the spotlight aside from his boss to use the Kirk murder to go after all of their perceived threats (and yeah, leave it to Pam “Blondi” to stoke the propaganda fire also)...and I guess I shouldn’t be surprised to hear “Couch Boy” go all GEORGE SOROS GEORGE SOROS GEORGE SOROS GEORGE SOROS GEORGE SOROS GEORGE SOROS GEORGE SOROS!!!! on us - well, I guess somebody in that bunch had to do it...I can’t think of a word to describe what it feels to actually agree with Matt Walsh, but borderline nauseous works I guess...Hayes speaks with former Capitol police officer Michael Fanone and Dem U.S. House Rep Greg Casar...

...and Jesse Dollemore covers pretty much the same story (including threats from Pam “Blondi”), and I like the direction he goes with it (and yeah, I’m pretty sick of dealing with the rancid memory of Charlie Kirk also)...and if I actually cared enough to get worked up over printing a poster for a Kirk prayer vigil, I would say that the Office Depot has the right to do what it thinks is best, even though they probably would have been better off just making the damn copies and foregoing all of the controversy (the difference to me versus, say, Kim Davis not issuing a same-sex marriage license is that Davis was a municipal government worker as opposed to someone in private industry, so Davis should have just done her damn job since she was required to do so)...and yeah, this James Asher cretin should STFU for saying “imagine how these people present themselves when not on camera,” or whatever...as if he would have a clue about that...

...and timed for the Gropenfuhrer’s journey to the UK, Jonathan Pie has some thoughts related to Kirk, as well as the spread of right-wing extremism on the “sceptered isle” having to do with someone named Tommy Robinson (and oh yeah, King Elmo is right in the middle of it, because of course...not busy enough destroying his Tesla brand I guess); I’ll admit that I need to get caught up a bit on the Brit stuff; I don’t see an equivalency between the “woke left” and the crazy right, at least not on our shores, but it may be different “across the pond” I realize (NSFW/H)...

...and Rachel Maddow reminds us to “watch what they do, not what they say”...she goes over what I guess you could call the “dictator check list,” and yep, Mango Mussolini checks all the boxes all right, and yes, the $64K question indeed is how far as a country that we’re going to let him go...Maddow focuses on the Lisa Cook fiasco at the Fed (trying to charge her for something that people usually don’t get criminally charged for, namely mortgage fraud), as a lead-in to #47’s disastrous handling of our economy including expanded unemployment and a rise in health care premiums (about 75% if you’re covered under the ACA)...and how typical for this gangster to put his hideous scrawl on projects passed and funded under President Biden...and great job by the city of Chicago to push back against Cantaloupe Capone and the threat of sending ICE thugs to that location...and another “insert foot in mouth” moment from #47 came when he deported the South Korean workers who were here in Georgia to help build a battery plant (this has Baby Goebbels written all over it, IMO)...

...and Seth Meyers gives us “A Closer Look” on #47’s latest jab against NATO in the wake of Vlad The Butcher sending drones into Poland; it’s only a matter of time IMO under Cheetoh Hitler tries pulling us out of that important international org once and for all...and yeah, “leading from behind,” huh? As we know, every accusation from these charlatans is really a confession...

...and happy 75th birthday to Fee Waybill of The Tubes.

Tuesday, September 16, 2025

Tuesday Stuff

Jesse Dollemore informs us of the recent dustup with Brian “Kill The Poor” Kilmeade...under normal circumstances (and I know we don’t live under “normal” circumstances), the same punishment would be exacted towards Kilmeade as that exacted towards, say, Matthew Dowd for repeating completely factual information about the late but hardly lamented (in this space anyway) Charlie Kirk, as well as former WaPo columnist Karen Attiah (h/t Eschaton)...since we appear to be exacting a zero tolerance policy towards anyone not properly genuflecting at the mention of Kirk’s name, I think Kilmeade should endure the same fate for saying something MUCH worse, apology notwithstanding...and oh yeah, the setup from Ainsley Earhardt and Lawrence Jones put the discussion in a bad direction to begin with (and oh yeah, when it comes to mental institutions, let’s not forget this)...good point by Jesse about Kilmeade making the apology to a much smaller audience than the one that heard the offending remark in the first place...and oh yeah, homeless people deserve “empathy and compassion” but ABSOLUTELY NOT ONE BLEEPING DIME OF FUNDING TO SUPPORT SOME KIND OF HOUSING TO HELP THEM TRANSITION INTO A BETTER LIFE as far as conservatives are concerned, amirite?...

...and as a follow-up to the Charlie Kirk stuff, Thom Hartmann points out that nobody in this country should be killed for their politics, and how pathetic is it that we’re at a place where that even needs to be said?...Thom discusses how the “both sides” argument fuels extremism, along with a bit of the history of political violence in this country...I’d forgotten about Poppy Bush resigning from the NRA board of directors because that org went too nuts even for #41...glad Thom mentions Schedule F employees as part of Project 2025 along with Georgia poll workers Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss and the misery they had to endure merely for doing commendable civic duty...didn’t know that the FBI director for Utah was a Muslim woman who was fired; gee, I wonder if they could use her now?...”violence is their brand” indeed...

...and Sam and Emma of The Majority Report tell us about McDonald’s CEO Chris Kempczinski ringing the alarm bell, as it were, over the money stuff under Combover Caligula...looks like Scott Bessent is going to take the hit for our slumping economy by himself, as opposed to Cheetoh Hitler (and Howard Lutnick, who apparently had a bit of a dustup with Bessent, in part over Lutnick betting against our economy – once more, elect a clown, expect a circus)...good point by Sam about those stinking tariffs raising prices AND slowing the economy, and I also agree with Sam that you could argue that the slowdown in our economy (for lower and middle-class consumers especially) dates back to the end of COVID relief (ties back to Sam’s comment about “two economies,” which I also agree with)...Emma’s remark about basically the .01 percent “making bank” as a result of others’ misfortune in a recession is an accurate call also IMO (and it sounds like AI and for-profit health care are keeping the bottom from falling out for now, but we know what happens to economic “bubbles,” don’t we?)...

...and John of The Damage Report lets us know that Pumpkin Pol Pot and Baby Goebbels are apparently happy with 200K mass deportations, though ICE agents are getting burned out (cue the world’s smallest violin)...and oh yeah, driving up deportations means that investigations into actual honest-to-goodness crime that require more expertise and money to execute are getting shortchanged for these idiotic roundups that gather more wingnut media attention (I wish I could disagree with John’s comment about ICE getting more desperate and their standards getting lower and lower, but in good conscience I really can’t)...

...and RIP legendary actor/director/environmental activist Robert Redford...over-the-hill boomer that I am, I admit that you get to a point where you just get it in your head that certain fixtures of your youth and maturity (I guess you could call it that) will always be there, and it’s a shock when you realize that they’re as mortal as the rest of us...I could probably include a ton of clips of Redford where he made an impact with understated acting talent that he used effectively portraying simple human decency, but this clip from “All The President’s Men” has stuck with me over the years, and so have a bunch of others from that tremendous film, as well as many other pics including Redford...the impact he left also in supporting independent film will never be equaled (clip is briefly NSFW at the very end, but I have a feeling we know that by now)...

Update 9/17/25: Another reason to honor Redford's memory is here.

...and I also know we’ve had a spate of musical acts that have departed recently, and Bobby Hart is another notable loss; he formed a songwriting duo in the ‘60s with Tommy Boyce, and they were instrumental in the rise of The Monkees...the duo also had the following hit from back in the day.

Monday Stuff

OK, I’m going to try and get this thing going once more...to start, Tennessee Brando gives us his take on this Tyler Robinson life form who (allegedly) shot Charlie Kirk...and leave it to that utter loon Nancy Mace to dive head first into the completely WRONG conclusion...also, leave it to Baby Goebbels to use Kirk’s killing as YET ANOTHER excuse to dump on everyone and everything he decides to whine, pout and cry over – like I’m supposed to actually be afraid of an execrable pissant like Miller (apparently various right-wing nematodes are trying to build up some angle about Robinson having a trans roommate and THAT's the reason he supposedly shot Kirk...GMAFB!)...and boy, is Brando right about this moment being more of a “tell” on the wingnuts than both Trump elections, January 6th, etc., and kudos to Jasmine Crockett (and I totally agree with Brando’s sentiment that the best we can do is just take care of one another, since we definitely won’t reach the wingnuts, on the matter of Kirk’s death or anything else really)... and to support what Brando says, I thought this was a particularly good related column (NSFW/H)...

...and Brian Tyler Cohen and Glenn Kirschner give us their analysis on what resulted from the Kirk shooting....even though I was away from this for a little bit, I definitely took note of the revisionist history out there about Kirk, and it was all I could do not to utterly retch...Cohen and Kirschner talk about how Crazy Eyes Kash Patel has bungled the investigation that has led us to a suspect in the shooting (Kirschner, in his commendable deliberate fashion, makes a hell of a lot of compelling arguments IMO as to why Patel has absolutely no business holding his current position in this clown car circus of an administration)...NSFW/H also...

...and Yasmin Khan of Rebel HQ discusses more of the consequences of Repug “governance” in her home state, which The Eternal Molly Ivins once called “the national laboratory for bad government”...I’ll admit that the Texas Tribune skews in a progressive direction, but I don’t hear or see anyone contradicting their facts about the overall rotten quality of life in the “Lone Star State” and how that’s impacting hospitals and universities since people from other countries don’t much want to come here to study any more, and those students and professors currently there are looking to bail out because of “All Hat, No Cattle” Greg Abbott, Ken Paxton, Dan Patrick, and other right-wing grifters (especially in “the land of the yellow rose”)...oh, but OF COURSE The Ten Commandments need to be displayed in public school classrooms (SMDH)...

...and Mike Figueredo of The Humanist Report takes a deeper look at people around the world reacting with horror to our slide into an autocracy, including an audience following a German YouTuber, as well as some folks “across the pond” (and NHS isn’t perfect – nothing is of course – but it was fine for us when we needed it)...oh, and here comes a shocker (not) – the modern-day Nazi party thinks Bronzer Beelzebub is a-OK...and no, Mike, not every person in this country has turned into an “ape-brained MAGA dipsh*t,” though it does seem like it at times, and I totally agree that the ascent of fascism is a result of late-stage capitalism...I’m not quite as fatalistic as Figueredo, but I definitely understand his point of view (another NSFW/H segment)...

...and I’ll admit that I’m a little behind on the news cycle with this video from Mr. Newberger where he commendably IMO gets a little serious, but I definitely think it ‘s worthwhile to include here...

...and RIP Rick Davies of Supertramp.

Tuesday Stuff (updates)

Caleb Cunningham and Farron Cousins let us know that an election denier from our beloved commonwealth will head Trump’s “election security” team of course (someone named Heather Honey – sounds like a p*rn star)...yep, as Cunningham says, #47 is getting ready to pre-emptively claim “election fraud” along with the gerrymandering and other BS games the “R” party is trying to pull for next year...good point about Mike Lindell going to the mat for the Gropenfuhrer and getting tossed aside as usual for people sucked into Trump’s orbit...”this is only going to get worse as they get more desperate” indeed...

...and David Shuster of Rebel HQ brings us the sorry tale of Our Ochre Abomination declaring war on Chicago because I guess he needs something to do, with our economy doing so well that he doesn’t need to pay any attention (#sarcasm)...yeah, the movie poster is about par for the course from this sorry lot of frauds and neophytes...didn’t know about the anti-ICE protests over the weekend – great job to stay strong...and yeah, it looks like Don the Con is continuing to tank our economy with raiding a Hyundai manufacturing facility...and speaking of the effects of wind (were we?), it looks like that thing on top of Pumpkin Pol Pot’s head is taking on a life of its own)...and yep, 22K jobs added in August – with a number that bad, it might as well be 0 (and I wonder if #47 will fire the person responsible for communicating that awful info as he did last time?)... and given that polling number, after this experience, I don’t think I want anything to do with a registered Republican for the rest of my days...

...and with the prior clip in mind, I now give you the latest installment of “This Day In Doomsy History” from 9/9/19, in which Dem U.S. House Rep Ro Khanna speaks with someone named Steve Hilton on Fix Noise about an approach to delivering skilled jobs across this country including rural communities and what we need to do to make that happen in terms of a public sector/private sector partnership (and as Khanna notes, he mentioned this to Wonder Boy Jared Kushner since this was during the first failed era for Cheetoh Hitler, but it obviously didn’t go anywhere – Kyle Kulinski leads the segment...it indeed sounds like a “tech New Deal,” which works for me, and I would also punish employers offshoring jobs within this framework...good job by Kyle to keep this segment "G" rated)...

...and John and Sharon Reed of The Damage Report bring us the news of Demetre Daskalakis of the CDC resigning given the havoc created by “Bobby Brainworms,” but look... Daskalakis is GAY (from this Buddy Carter wingnut along with Rand “Fake Ophthalmologist” Paul...I’d forgotten about Jr. “inadvertently” groping a woman; if we lived in a normal timeline, that by itself would likely have been disqualifying for the Kennedy scion...didn’t know red states were hit disproportionately harder than blue states when it comes to CDC funding cuts, but yeah, that sure figures also)...

...and Seth Meyers gives us “A Closer Look” with our ruling regime threatening to send troops to Chicago (this is a little behind the news cycle I’ll admit, but I still wanted to get to it)...sounds like more distractions by wanting to go to war with Venezuela AND “The Windy City”...and I’ll bet that even a 90-year-old hippie could kick Baby Goebbels’s sorry butt...and though what necessitated the Epstein files is terrible (the awful abuse of these young girls), watching our “big, strong, and not ‘woke’” *preznit trying to backpedal is indeed justice of a sort (not what is called for of course, which is serious prison time, especially in light of this, and sending Ghislaine Maxwell back to the big house for real; I’m only commenting on the political blowback)...and I can’t believe that Marjorie Train Wreck Greene is actually doing the right thing here, but I have to admit that she is (maybe for crass political reasons, but I have to point that out)...

...and RIP Mark Volman, who partnered with Howard Kaylan on The Turtles and Flo and Eddie...

...and with that, I now take my leave of you for a few days for some much-needed R&R. I’ll plan to get this going again sometime next week.

Update 1 9/10/25: It should go without saying that this is absolutely terrible, and I’ve said that there’s never an excuse for violence (I’ve only ever made an exception for bin Laden – maybe I was wrong, but I’m standing by that). Charlie Kirk represented absolutely nothing that I ever believed in, but this is still an awful tragedy that never should have happened. However, I’m already hearing about “Democrats and ‘woke’ liberals” being blamed, which is about what you can expect from the “shoot first and aim later” crowd.

I’m sure we’ll be treated to more escalated rhetoric and behavior over this (I’d love to be wrong). More’s the pity.
And by the way, let’s not forget about this (and this is typical).

Update 2: What Markos sez here.

Monday Stuff

Katy Tur speaks with former Dem U.S. Senator (and farmer) Jon Tester about the havoc wrought by Combover Caligula’s tariffs and how that has affected the ability of farmers to control their own costs for equipment and capital generally along with trying to sell their goods in markets that are closing because their products are too expensive for buyers mainly in the Pacific Rim, as Tester explains...as we know, Cheetoh Hitler is apparently the only human being on earth who doesn’t believe that a tariff is a tax on the American consumer/producer (a related item is here)...

...and Chris Hayes discusses the story of Pumpkin Pol Pot attacking a Venezuelan speedboat and killing 11 people, and in international waters no less...oh, but we said they are all Tren De Aragua, so it’s ok, as if these people would tell us the truth if they even knew what it was...and how Trumpian to try and come up with a legal authority for this AFTER they’d already carried this out (speaking with Spencer Ackerman)...and leave it to “little Marco” to act like a puppet for Our Treasonous Orange Pustule on this (and I’m also sure there will be more of this - love to be wrong)...good for Ackerman to draw a line from this to Dubya’s Global War On TERRA! TERRA! TERRA!...I would complain about another weird cut at the end of an MSNBC video if complaining about it would do any good...

...and Belle of the Ranch discusses Bronzer Beelzebub trying to push out Lisa Cook of the Fed over “mortgage fraud”...they should just get a clip of “Couch Boy” recently trashing Cook in an interview as evidence that Vance prejudiced any possible trial with his remarks...the open letter from Nobel laureate economists pointing out Mango Mussolini’s typical stoo-pidity should help Cook also, especially since they already knew her mortgage history when she was first confirmed...by the way, the “Chesterton Fence” comment pertains to something that may appear nonsensical at first, though there is hidden wisdom as we discover, in this case I believe Belle is talking about the Fed’s independence from partisan politics (and yeah, these idiots in charge need to pay particular attention to the bond market)...

...and Farron Cousins tells us that it looks like Newsmax is suing Fix Noise because the former says the latter is making sure it isn’t carried on certain TV markets...filthy, unkempt liberal blogger that I am, I have to admit that I’m not close enough to the real or imagined numbers here to know if Newsmax actually has a case (I suspect they don’t), though I will say that a big part of Fix Noise’s business model is its deals with the cable telco providers...even though it’s laudable IMO to boycott advertisers on The Roger Ailes BS Factory, that’s not really hitting that trash network where they live, and if Newsmax actually has a case here, they could do damage...boy, is Cousins ever right about so-called “regular TV” and what you can do to generate your own buzz; would that those clueless losers running the @DNC knew that (though I’ll admit that the jury is still out on Ken Martin IMO)...if nothing else, this should be an enjoyable “food fight” between the two biggest TV propaganda networks in this country (pass the popcorn)...

...and Stephen Colbert on the Late Show gives us his take on “Bobby Brainworms” and that ridiculous hearing he was involved in recently (nice try by Dem Ron Wyden of Oregon to try and get the Kennedy scion sworn in)...oh, and CVS and Walgreen’s apparently aren’t going to offer COVID vaccines thanks to our maniac in charge of HHS (love the “Star Wars” sendup btw)...and John Barrasso is another one of these characters who checked out long ago when it came to ensuring the health and safety of his constituents as far as I’m concerned...oh, and Jr. can see “mitochondrial” infection in an airport without a microscope? That’s almost as absurd as “Dr.” Ladapo in Flori-DUUUH! asking “Who am I?” when it comes to recommending what people can do to stay healthy...and oh yeah, it looks like “Don Quixote” Trump is tilting at windmills again, you might say (does that make “Couch Boy” Sancho Panza I wonder?)...

...and I now give you one of the all-time, dewy-eyed, pointy-headed lib tunes in existence, but I think it fits when considering the Arkansas farmers in the Daily Kos post that I linked to above.

Friday Stuff

(By the way, posting for next week is really "up in tha air"...just don't know yet.)

Jen Psaki discusses the Gropenfuhrer’s agenda being thwarted by losses in court, including deploying ICE to the streets of LA (a pretty thorough rundown...”so much winning,” you might say)...Psaki speaks with Norm Eisen of the Democracy Defenders Fund and Skye Perriman of Democracy Forward...discussion touches on the release of the Epstein files (and yeah, #47 is going to try and hide as much as he can on that of course)...and Eisen is right about using “shock and awe with the rule of law” to try and hold our Cretin-In-Chief and his various lickspittles accountable...

...and Robert Reich tells us about Cantaloupe Capone abusing his pardon power and shaking down everybody who can pony up and throw some dough his way...and oh yeah, Bronzer Beelzebub has also erased about $1.3 billion in fines and restitution these jackals were due to pay in the process, as Reich tells us...so much of this foul, fetid corruption somehow ties back to Ed Martin, it should be noted...

via GIPHY

...and Caleb Cunningham and Farron Cousins tell us that “Alligator Alcatraz” was apparently nothing but a $250 million waste of money for the state of Flori-DUUH!...another shining moment for Ron #DeathSantis...I didn’t know that FEMA funds went into this cruel madness, but as Cousins says, the next time a hurricane inevitably hits, there won’t be as much dough to help with rescue and recovery (and I guess I shouldn't be surprised by this ridiculous update)...

...and Sam Black of More Perfect Union tells us about the secret deals struck by Google, Meta and other competitors in the AI space to build data centers, agreements reached with utility companies out of sight from any public accountability, which explains why our electric bills are going up...and it looks like Ashburn, VA is the spot where a lot of these places are getting built...the report tells us that tech companies want to spend about $475 billion on data centers in this year alone, with this PJM outfit leading the pack as far as utilities go, passing off the cost to consumers as supply charges (though other utilities are guilty besides PJM)...and yeah, I don’t think it takes a genius to see that the data center is going to underpay for their energy costs and leave it up to the energy provider to gouge their residential customers to cover the difference...privatizing the profit and socializing the risk as usual (and it looks like Maryland is trying to get this situation under control, to their credit)...so along comes this astroturf outfit called the Data Center Coalition to hoodwink people into letting our corpocracy run rampant as usual and defeat bills to rein in these corporate behemoths...and for the wingnut take on this story, I offer the following...

..and David Doel tells us about Graham Platner really killing it at an appearance in Maine as part of Bernie Sanders’s “Fight Oligarchy” tour...good point by Doel to mention the growth of “unaffiliated” voters to one political party, not just in Maine but across the country I’m sure, meaning that NOTHING is guaranteed for next year...I watch this clip and I realize once more just how badly the Dems blew it last year by giving that genocidal criminal “Bibi” every damn thing he wanted (and as I’ve said before, we’re looong past the point of saying “yeah, well, who was responsible for October 7th?,” wrong as it was to kill, attack and capture Israeli civilians)...Dems absolutely hemorrhaged Gen Z male voters in particular last year because they offered them virtually nothing, but Platner is EXACTLY the type of candidate who can help win them back (and yeah, I know they’re bailing on #47, but again, Dems have to actually win these people...slightly NSFW/H at the very end)...

...and in keeping with the effort to find some levity in the midst of this madness, Jesse Welles gives us the “Ballad of Big Balls” (probably behind the news cycle on this again - apologies)...

...and leave it to Mr. Newberger to make comedy lemonade out of lemons, you might say...

...and happy 80th birthday to Al Stewart.
