Wednesday Stuff

Rachel Maddow tells us about a recent surprise inspection of an ICE prison in Mesa, AZ, made to house a max of 157 people, though apparently 274 were crammed in, according to reporting from the Arizona Daily Mirror, and OF COURSE the number of detainees in the facility shrunk when Dem members of the U.S. House were scheduled to visit, and the number of detainees went back up after the inspection...well, that didn’t work out so well because they were BUSTED when Dem congress reps Greg Stanton and Yassamin Ansari returned to the facility for an unscheduled visit and brought Adelita Grijalva along with them and saw what was really going on (Grijalva is interviewed – you may remember that “MAGA Mike” Johnson did everything he could not to seat Grijalva in the House, and I submit that that was because he knew how good she would be at her job)...if this report isn’t one hell of a good argument for totally abolishing private prisons, I don’t know what is..

...and this report from CBC The National gives us a warning from history about a potential Kharg Island invasion by our military...and oh yeah, we have war cheerleader Huckleberry (“Send In The Troops!”) Graham – on the one hand, Graham has a lengthy military record which is better than anything from your humble narrator I know, but by Graham’s own admission, he “never deployed” and served in the Judge Advocate General’s office, rising to the rank of colonel; to act like Graham is somehow some battle-hardened vet is a joke, and I think he’s been getting waaay too much of a pass for years as some kind of military “expert” without that missing context...and oh yeah, saying that since the Marines captured Iwo Jima, they can also invade Kharg Island is cosmically stoo-pid as far as yours truly is concerned (and to call Khe Sanh a horror show during the Vietnam War is speaking euphemistically for sure)...and let’s not forget Fallujah in Iraq either...report is from Terence McKenna; this is exactly the sort of coverage that we SHOULD get from our beyond useless corporate media in this country, but good luck with that I know...personally, I think (and hope and pray) that the lunatics behind this ridiculous war have learned their lesson and will dispense with this “boots on the ground” madness...everyone responsible for starting this war should be brought before a docket in The Hague as far as yours truly is concerned...

...and Belle of the Ranch lets us know that Commander Bone Spurs is going to try and institute automatic selective service registration (barring a court challenge, that is) – OK, so we can automatically register young men in the event that this country tries to bring back a draft as part of the NDAA that the Gopenfuhrer signed into law last December, but we can’t automatically register people to vote as Belle says? And oh yeah, this “blanket draft” includes asylum seekers and undocumented folks, the individuals this wretched administration is trying to deport – sooo, they can fight, get maimed and possibly die for this country, but they can’t live here? Is there a universe in which any of this actually makes sense (interesting observation that the DoD is actually anti-draft now)...

...and David Pakman lets us know that Dems have officially filed H Res 1155, introduced by House Dem John Larson of Connecticut, calling for another impeachment of Spray-Tan Satan...charges include militarizing domestic law enforcement, unlawful detention and deportation, targeting political opponents, abusing the pardon power, etc...I agree with Pakman’s assessment that you need to get as much of #47’s garbage on the record as you can; whatever may or may not happen as a result is another matter entirely...

...and Nick Offerman of The Daily Show discusses the Tangerine Toddler turning the 250th into another grift for himself of course, including his mug on commemorative coins and on passes to our national parks (John Oliver recently had a great bit about the latter)...as far as I'm concerned, the “Arch De Trump” is an automatic excuse for the 25th Amendment (slightly NSFW/H)...

...and I hope you made out OK with your returns for the prior year – we ended up doing all right, so I’ll take it and not complain.
