John and Luke Beasley of The Damage Report inform us about “MAGA Mike” Johnson acting just so shocked that the U.S. House Dem leadership is apparently trying to get concessions from the Trump Party in response to averting a looming government shut down...I don’t want to shock anybody out there, but it’s possible – and work with me on this, OK? – that the “D” team may FINALLY HAVE DISCOVERED A FREAKING SPINE, so of course Johnson takes a break from watching p*rn with his son to scurry over to Fix Noise and complain...Dems are pushing for a reversal in Medicaid cuts, eliminating those godawful tariffs, a ban on stock trading (and I’m sure that last one will be the first to go in any negotiations, sadly...love to be wrong)...we’ll see what happens of course...
...and Jesse Dollemore tells us of Mango Mussolini trying to hide a study linking right-wing extremism to violence in the wake of the killing of you-know-who...and I would say that those numbers dating from 1990 are pretty damn indicative of which side is overwhelmingly responsible for our sorry sad state (mildly NSFW/H)...
...and Emma of The Majority Report brings us up to date on wingnuts trying to silence the left over Kirk’s murder (similar to the prior clip)...yep, we’ve seen ZERO evidence that this Tyler Robinson had any inclination whatsoever towards Democrats/liberals/progressives...and why does it not surprise me in the least that red state teachers are going to face a crackdown?...and oh yeah, Sean Inanity is such a “free speech champion,” isn’t he? And I want to see actual proof that SCOTUS justices and ICE agents were doxxed, as opposed to this Fix Noise millionaire throwing around BS charges...and as we might expect, there’s a lot more to the story of this school board member who was allegedly fired for inflammatory speech, and Inanity/Pam ”Blondi” blow that off; seems this school board member didn’t even mention Kirk at all in what she said, wrong-headed though her language was I’ll admit..so OF COURSE their idiot Repug guv Glenn Trumpkin jumps into the mess (and I know I went over the poster thing with Kirk and this James Asher already, but no, you can’t be prosecuted for failing to make a copy of a freaking poster)...
...and this report from The National takes a pretty detailed look at how Cantaloupe Capone’s CDC cuts could affect the health of Canadians...didn’t know how much our neighbors to the north relied on CDC data (interview with Dr. Fahad Razak), but I guess I shouldn’t be surprised, and why do I have a sinking feeling that this is yet another void created by Our Treasonous Orange Pustule that China will try to fill?...and of course, the anti-vax epicenters in this country are in “the land of the yellow rose” and Flori-DUUUH!, which we already knew...
...and I’ll admit that I kind of go back and forth with Hasan Piker, but it sounds like he’s on the mark here about all of us coming together to oppose Mango Mussolini...and kudos to Eric Swalwell, but we need to make that majority happen next year...but look over there; Our Treasonous Orange Pustule is declaring war on Antifa, which ISN’T EVEN AN ORGANIZATION...”they’re weak, they’re scared,” referring to the Trumpers of course...David Doel tells us more (NSFW/H also)...
Update: I thought this was spot-on (for Bluesky folks).
...and returning to the story that has dominated the news cycle this week, Desi Lydic of The Daily Show gives us the headlines, including “Slain Saint Charlie”; I’ll admit that this clip is kind of a rehash, but it does put the Kirk overreaction in the context it deserves IMO (and once more, we’d better include clips from TDS since that program may get axed next)...mildly NSFW/H also..
...and it’s a good thing we’re not living during the time of World War II, or else I’m sure Cheetoh Hitler would try to get this comedian cancelled also (from here)...
...and since we’re approaching the fall equinox, that means that I have to ring down the curtain on my summer selections with this number...oh well.

Thursday Stuff
Emma May Weber of Media Matters gives us a breakdown on all the ways Fix Noise has been ratcheting up the fear and paranoia to 11, you might say, when it comes to deportation...I think Weber does a good job of informing us of just what happened to what passes for debate on this issue; The Sainted Ronnie R looks a bit like Joan Baez on this issue when compared to the mouth breathers in Not Your Father’s Republican Party today...we also learn about the Center for Immigration Studies muddying the discourse waters, you might say, with our beyond useless corporate media (including Smerky and Harris Faulkner of course) playing along (NSFW/H, and I would suggest that you not watch this on a full stomach)...
...but the big story on Action News is that it looks like another comedian is out of a job, and this time it’s Jimmy Kimmel (Chris Hayes tells us about it)...yep, Trumpist lackey Brendan Carr of the FCC pretty much leaned on Disney/ABC to drop Kimmel (and by the way, if you’re looking to do something in protest, I would suggest moving any $$ you may have invested in BlackRock or Vanguard, since they’re majority shareholders in Nexstar, the company that proposed dropping Kimmel first)...kudos to Hayes for drawing a line on this right from Yambo The Coward to Putin, Orban and Erdogan when it comes to going after the media...Hayes also does a terrific job of connecting the dots, as it were, when it comes to who owns our corporate media (and all of this while #47 is con-vee-niently out of the country)...Hayes speaks with Ben Rhodes and David Enrich...”we’re not near the beginning of the playbook, we’re nearing the end of the playbook”...ugh (another ridiculous MSNBC edit – would have liked to have heard Enrich)...more here – and by the way, let’s not forget that the “Mouse Network” was also guilty of this nonsense from the bad Bushco years...
Update 1: Damn right (about Dems calling for Carr to quit, I mean).
Update 2: Looks like Our Treasonous Orange Man-Baby has a case of hurt fee fees...
...and kudos to our friends "across the pond" for giving Bronzer Beelzebub the welcome he truly deserves (there also was this)...
While King Charles feeds Trump's fantasies of being a monarch at Windsor Castle, the streets of Windsor are flooded with protesters rallying against America's pedophile president. ππͺπ✊️π pic.twitter.com/svCHOGf8Va

...and David Shuster of Rebel HQ tells us more about Pumpkin Pol Pot destroying the “ag” industry as his trade war backfires, affecting in particular soybean farmers...part of me wants to ridicule these folks since they likely voted for Bronzer Beelzebub, but being the pin-headed lib that I am, I think we should do right by everyone doing essential labor to make a living in this country...”we’re not just losing sales (to China in particular), we’re losing trust” indeed...
...and Seth Meyers gives us “A Closer Look” on Cantaloupe Capone’s crypto deal with the UAE, in which we gave that country access to computer chips in return, according to a NYT investigation...so it looks like we have to hear the tortured retelling of the history of “Mr. Caboose” and “TikTok Jack”; I can’t imagine what I did to deserve living in this timeline, but it must have been pretty bad (I guess we’d better pay particular attention to Meyers now along with The Daily Show, since they may be the next programs to get pulled off the air)...
...and believe it or not, today is the 75th anniversary of the death of Jimi Hendrix.

Wednesday Stuff
Chris Hayes discusses the Trumpist caterwauling to protest the Constitutionally protected free speech in the wake of the murder of you-know-who...and of course, who else but Baby Goebbels is claiming the spotlight aside from his boss to use the Kirk murder to go after all of their perceived threats (and yeah, leave it to Pam “Blondi” to stoke the propaganda fire also)...and I guess I shouldn’t be surprised to hear “Couch Boy” go all GEORGE SOROS GEORGE SOROS GEORGE SOROS GEORGE SOROS GEORGE SOROS GEORGE SOROS GEORGE SOROS!!!! on us - well, I guess somebody in that bunch had to do it...I can’t think of a word to describe what it feels to actually agree with Matt Walsh, but borderline nauseous works I guess...Hayes speaks with former Capitol police officer Michael Fanone and Dem U.S. House Rep Greg Casar...
...and Jesse Dollemore covers pretty much the same story (including threats from Pam “Blondi”), and I like the direction he goes with it (and yeah, I’m pretty sick of dealing with the rancid memory of Charlie Kirk also)...and if I actually cared enough to get worked up over printing a poster for a Kirk prayer vigil, I would say that the Office Depot has the right to do what it thinks is best, even though they probably would have been better off just making the damn copies and foregoing all of the controversy (the difference to me versus, say, Kim Davis not issuing a same-sex marriage license is that Davis was a municipal government worker as opposed to someone in private industry, so Davis should have just done her damn job since she was required to do so)...and yeah, this James Asher cretin should STFU for saying “imagine how these people present themselves when not on camera,” or whatever...as if he would have a clue about that...
...and timed for the Gropenfuhrer’s journey to the UK, Jonathan Pie has some thoughts related to Kirk, as well as the spread of right-wing extremism on the “sceptered isle” having to do with someone named Tommy Robinson (and oh yeah, King Elmo is right in the middle of it, because of course...not busy enough destroying his Tesla brand I guess); I’ll admit that I need to get caught up a bit on the Brit stuff; I don’t see an equivalency between the “woke left” and the crazy right, at least not on our shores, but it may be different “across the pond” I realize (NSFW/H)...
...and Rachel Maddow reminds us to “watch what they do, not what they say”...she goes over what I guess you could call the “dictator check list,” and yep, Mango Mussolini checks all the boxes all right, and yes, the $64K question indeed is how far as a country that we’re going to let him go...Maddow focuses on the Lisa Cook fiasco at the Fed (trying to charge her for something that people usually don’t get criminally charged for, namely mortgage fraud), as a lead-in to #47’s disastrous handling of our economy including expanded unemployment and a rise in health care premiums (about 75% if you’re covered under the ACA)...and how typical for this gangster to put his hideous scrawl on projects passed and funded under President Biden...and great job by the city of Chicago to push back against Cantaloupe Capone and the threat of sending ICE thugs to that location...and another “insert foot in mouth” moment from #47 came when he deported the South Korean workers who were here in Georgia to help build a battery plant (this has Baby Goebbels written all over it, IMO)...
...and Seth Meyers gives us “A Closer Look” on #47’s latest jab against NATO in the wake of Vlad The Butcher sending drones into Poland; it’s only a matter of time IMO under Cheetoh Hitler tries pulling us out of that important international org once and for all...and yeah, “leading from behind,” huh? As we know, every accusation from these charlatans is really a confession...
...and happy 75th birthday to Fee Waybill of The Tubes.

Tuesday Stuff
Jesse Dollemore informs us of the recent dustup with Brian “Kill The Poor” Kilmeade...under normal circumstances (and I know we don’t live under “normal” circumstances), the same punishment would be exacted towards Kilmeade as that exacted towards, say, Matthew Dowd for repeating completely factual information about the late but hardly lamented (in this space anyway) Charlie Kirk, as well as former WaPo columnist Karen Attiah (h/t Eschaton)...since we appear to be exacting a zero tolerance policy towards anyone not properly genuflecting at the mention of Kirk’s name, I think Kilmeade should endure the same fate for saying something MUCH worse, apology notwithstanding...and oh yeah, the setup from Ainsley Earhardt and Lawrence Jones put the discussion in a bad direction to begin with (and oh yeah, when it comes to mental institutions, let’s not forget this)...good point by Jesse about Kilmeade making the apology to a much smaller audience than the one that heard the offending remark in the first place...and oh yeah, homeless people deserve “empathy and compassion” but ABSOLUTELY NOT ONE BLEEPING DIME OF FUNDING TO SUPPORT SOME KIND OF HOUSING TO HELP THEM TRANSITION INTO A BETTER LIFE as far as conservatives are concerned, amirite?...
...and as a follow-up to the Charlie Kirk stuff, Thom Hartmann points out that nobody in this country should be killed for their politics, and how pathetic is it that we’re at a place where that even needs to be said?...Thom discusses how the “both sides” argument fuels extremism, along with a bit of the history of political violence in this country...I’d forgotten about Poppy Bush resigning from the NRA board of directors because that org went too nuts even for #41...glad Thom mentions Schedule F employees as part of Project 2025 along with Georgia poll workers Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss and the misery they had to endure merely for doing commendable civic duty...didn’t know that the FBI director for Utah was a Muslim woman who was fired; gee, I wonder if they could use her now?...”violence is their brand” indeed...
...and Sam and Emma of The Majority Report tell us about McDonald’s CEO Chris Kempczinski ringing the alarm bell, as it were, over the money stuff under Combover Caligula...looks like Scott Bessent is going to take the hit for our slumping economy by himself, as opposed to Cheetoh Hitler (and Howard Lutnick, who apparently had a bit of a dustup with Bessent, in part over Lutnick betting against our economy – once more, elect a clown, expect a circus)...good point by Sam about those stinking tariffs raising prices AND slowing the economy, and I also agree with Sam that you could argue that the slowdown in our economy (for lower and middle-class consumers especially) dates back to the end of COVID relief (ties back to Sam’s comment about “two economies,” which I also agree with)...Emma’s remark about basically the .01 percent “making bank” as a result of others’ misfortune in a recession is an accurate call also IMO (and it sounds like AI and for-profit health care are keeping the bottom from falling out for now, but we know what happens to economic “bubbles,” don’t we?)...
...and John of The Damage Report lets us know that Pumpkin Pol Pot and Baby Goebbels are apparently happy with 200K mass deportations, though ICE agents are getting burned out (cue the world’s smallest violin)...and oh yeah, driving up deportations means that investigations into actual honest-to-goodness crime that require more expertise and money to execute are getting shortchanged for these idiotic roundups that gather more wingnut media attention (I wish I could disagree with John’s comment about ICE getting more desperate and their standards getting lower and lower, but in good conscience I really can’t)...
...and RIP legendary actor/director/environmental activist Robert Redford...over-the-hill boomer that I am, I admit that you get to a point where you just get it in your head that certain fixtures of your youth and maturity (I guess you could call it that) will always be there, and it’s a shock when you realize that they’re as mortal as the rest of us...I could probably include a ton of clips of Redford where he made an impact with understated acting talent that he used effectively portraying simple human decency, but this clip from “All The President’s Men” has stuck with me over the years, and so have a bunch of others from that tremendous film, as well as many other pics including Redford...the impact he left also in supporting independent film will never be equaled (clip is briefly NSFW at the very end, but I have a feeling we know that by now)...
Update 9/17/25: Another reason to honor Redford's memory is here.
...and I also know we’ve had a spate of musical acts that have departed recently, and Bobby Hart is another notable loss; he formed a songwriting duo in the ‘60s with Tommy Boyce, and they were instrumental in the rise of The Monkees...the duo also had the following hit from back in the day.

Monday Stuff
OK, I’m going to try and get this thing going once more...to start, Tennessee Brando gives us his take on this Tyler Robinson life form who (allegedly) shot Charlie Kirk...and leave it to that utter loon Nancy Mace to dive head first into the completely WRONG conclusion...also, leave it to Baby Goebbels to use Kirk’s killing as YET ANOTHER excuse to dump on everyone and everything he decides to whine, pout and cry over – like I’m supposed to actually be afraid of an execrable pissant like Miller (apparently various right-wing nematodes are trying to build up some angle about Robinson having a trans roommate and THAT's the reason he supposedly shot Kirk...GMAFB!)...and boy, is Brando right about this moment being more of a “tell” on the wingnuts than both Trump elections, January 6th, etc., and kudos to Jasmine Crockett (and I totally agree with Brando’s sentiment that the best we can do is just take care of one another, since we definitely won’t reach the wingnuts, on the matter of Kirk’s death or anything else really)... and to support what Brando says, I thought this was a particularly good related column (NSFW/H)...
...and Brian Tyler Cohen and Glenn Kirschner give us their analysis on what resulted from the Kirk shooting....even though I was away from this for a little bit, I definitely took note of the revisionist history out there about Kirk, and it was all I could do not to utterly retch...Cohen and Kirschner talk about how Crazy Eyes Kash Patel has bungled the investigation that has led us to a suspect in the shooting (Kirschner, in his commendable deliberate fashion, makes a hell of a lot of compelling arguments IMO as to why Patel has absolutely no business holding his current position in this clown car circus of an administration)...NSFW/H also...
...and Yasmin Khan of Rebel HQ discusses more of the consequences of Repug “governance” in her home state, which The Eternal Molly Ivins once called “the national laboratory for bad government”...I’ll admit that the Texas Tribune skews in a progressive direction, but I don’t hear or see anyone contradicting their facts about the overall rotten quality of life in the “Lone Star State” and how that’s impacting hospitals and universities since people from other countries don’t much want to come here to study any more, and those students and professors currently there are looking to bail out because of “All Hat, No Cattle” Greg Abbott, Ken Paxton, Dan Patrick, and other right-wing grifters (especially in “the land of the yellow rose”)...oh, but OF COURSE The Ten Commandments need to be displayed in public school classrooms (SMDH)...
...and Mike Figueredo of The Humanist Report takes a deeper look at people around the world reacting with horror to our slide into an autocracy, including an audience following a German YouTuber, as well as some folks “across the pond” (and NHS isn’t perfect – nothing is of course – but it was fine for us when we needed it)...oh, and here comes a shocker (not) – the modern-day Nazi party thinks Bronzer Beelzebub is a-OK...and no, Mike, not every person in this country has turned into an “ape-brained MAGA dipsh*t,” though it does seem like it at times, and I totally agree that the ascent of fascism is a result of late-stage capitalism...I’m not quite as fatalistic as Figueredo, but I definitely understand his point of view (another NSFW/H segment)...
...and I’ll admit that I’m a little behind on the news cycle with this video from Mr. Newberger where he commendably IMO gets a little serious, but I definitely think it ‘s worthwhile to include here...
...and RIP Rick Davies of Supertramp.
